COLORFUL CHINOS IT IS

Details: LOFT swing jacket/blazer, similar here | LOFT cropped skinny chinos, here |

My 5-year reunion was this weekend and I’m currently recovering from sleepless nights and belly aching laughs. It was so nice to return to campus and live the dorm life one more time. The weather held up and we were able to bask in the sun while drinking beers and playing games #collegelife. I’m bummed that the rain returns this week, but I’ve learned to live for the weekend. Also, I picked up some QuickTan to get me through these sunless days. It’s the best spray tan in a bottle and it’s what I used all through college so it only felt appropriate to grab some this weekend. If I can’t don my denim cutoffs, I decided to resort to fun colored cropped chino pants and am combatting the chill with this swing jacket/blazer. It’s super lightweight and easy to style with a variety of colors. I’m eagerly waiting to wear bathing suits and flip flops, but until then I’ll be wearing my colorful cropped chinos.

WHAT I WISH I WORE THIS WEEKEND

Details: Goodnight Macaroon ‘Riley’ Chambray Off the Shoulder Top, here  | Banana Republic white wide leg pants, similar here and here |

This weekend was your average weekend in New England in May–unpredictable. Friday night was beautiful and ended with a rainbow across the shoreline’s sky. Saturday was blissfully sunny with a comfortable breeze and Sunday was eh. It was hot and cold–literally. Nonetheless, it was a beautiful weekend filled with family, wine and lots of laughs. I was planning on donning my chambray off-the-shoulder top with these Banana Republic white wide leg pants. But like my dad always says: “we make plans and God laughs.” So, I resorted to a look that was much more well-suited to the weather. It doesn’t mean I love this outfit any less. I’ll just save it for a brighter day. I really love this top because it’s one of those comfortable OTS tops; it doesn’t slip off my shoulders and it’s a great length, not too short, not too long. I recently purchased these wide leg pants from Banana Republic and not only are they comfortable, but they’re so easy to wear. They look super sophisticated (and believe me, they are), but the material is practical and comfortable. It’s a cotton mix, making it a casual option that you can bring to the next level or wear with a laid back tee–the options are endless. I had all of these outfits I was wishing to wear this weekend, but I guess I jumped the gun a bit. Just because it’s the first weekend of summer to us, doesn’t mean Mother Nature agrees.

ROMPER, ROMPHIM, ROMP-ALL!

Details: TJ Maxx/Marshalls Bell Sleeve Honey Punch Romper, here |

So, the guys are getting on the romper wagon now, huh? I’m completely fine with this, but I will say that everything that guys have said about rompers, like that they hate them because they look like something a toddler would wear or that they’re not flattering on anyone in anyway shape or form and look more creepy than sexy.  After seeing rompers on men, it makes me wonder if they were right all along. I mean not ALL men can pull off a RompHim, and it is somewhat off-putting that they look like hairy adult babies runinng around. But to each his own, right? Despite my growing distaste for the recent RompHim trend, I am certain I will not be ditching my rompers any time soon. In fact, I just scored this bell-sleeve romper from Marshall’s and couldn’t love more if I tried. Unlike most offices, mine doesn’t implement a strict dress code which means rompers are acceptable in the workplace–woohoo!! And the fact that this one has long sleeves makes it even more loveable because it allows me to combat the ice chamber conditions inside the office, while still looking like I’m acknowleding the fact that it’s spring when I walk outside. Its floral pattern is tasteful and broken up by the lace detail in the middle, makes this one of my favorites this season. Cheers to rompers for all,  we’re truly breaking fashion boundaries!

THE HEAT MADE ME DO IT

Details: LOFT Pleated Duet Dress, here | DSW two-toned sandals, similar here |

I recently went on a shopping binge at LOFT and came across this flowy pleated dress. The heat made me do it! It was so hot last week, and I was in desperate need of cute dresses and lightweight tops to keep me from getting heat stroke. It was basically prescribed by my doctor. It’s too late now anyway, the damage is done and I have some new summer clothes to show for it. Lately, the LOFT has been surprising me. I used to never think twice about walking in there because everything always seemed to be boxy and ill-fitting. I don’t know what they’ve been doing lately, but keep it! Not only do have they offer on-trend styles but the fit seems to be much more accurate. Plus, they have an awesome petite section so I’m able to pull off a mid-length dress like this because they offer it in petite–score! I’ve noticed lately, in my old age that the quality of your clothing means more than quantity, but having a lot of quality clothes is always better–I can’t help myself! I wish that we were experiencing that unseasonable heat this week, so I can rock this dress. It’s one that I would wear two days in a row–it’s that good! So, the lesson of the day: if you haven’t been into LOFT in a while, or ever because you thought it was outdated or ill-fitting, go on and stop in; I guarantee that you’ll find something you just have to have.

MORE SUN HATS LESS SUNBURNS

DSC_0720edited 2DSC_0723 LRDSC_0713edited LRjpgDSC_0760editedDSC_0754edited 2DSC_0753 LRDetails: Chambray Sun Hat c/o J.Jill, here | Peek-a-boo shoulder top from Marshalls, similar here |

No matter what I do, when I go to the beach for the first time of the season, my scalp gets burnt. I usually carry a ratty worn baseball cap, or get creative and tie a shirt around my head, but that’s just not cute. I’ve started to take the sun seriously. Skin cancer runs in my family and I haven’t been so kind to my skin over the years. My high school years were spent at the tanning salon (hello, I’m from New Jersey), and I often wore the absolute minimum SPF while crisping my skin. I wisened up (a little) when I went to college, and now I wear nothing less than 30 SPF. I’ve also become very conscious of my scalp because it’s hard to see the damage that’s being done. Now that I have this cute and comfortable chambray sun hat from J.Jill, I don’t have to worry about looking silly while I’m spending the day outside enjoying the sun. As for my all white look, I broke out last year’s Banana Republic white denim wide leg pants and I picked up this cold shoulder top from Marshall’s. It’s actually a body suit, which makes it even more amazing. You don’t have to worry about it become untucked or looking out of place–it’s one of my favorite new purchases!  Now, it’s your turn to pick up a cute sun hat, slather on the SPF and put a classic all white look together, it is spring after all.

LET’S HEAR IT FOR THE SHOULDERS

DSC_0159editedDSC_0162editedDSC_0135editedDSC_0123edited (1)DSC_0125editedDetails: Blush pink off-the-shoulder top from RoseGal, here |

I know that I’ve been saying this for a while now, but I think it’s actually safe to say that it is officially off-the-shoulder season. Remember the collar bone and cleavage trends? Where even if you didn’t have a bust, you would strap yourself into some double camis and over priced, over padded Victoria’s Secret bra. Ahh, nostalgia. Well, that trend has long been gone, but the past two summers it seems that the shoulders are getting their time to shine. I love bare shoulders. It’s a sexy yet tasteful way to bare some skin. The blush color coupled with bare shoulders is a definite spring 2017 statement. The only thing missing is a sun-kissed glow. TBD when that will happen. Since I styled this outfit after a snowstorm, I paired it with some distressed denim and booties, but it will be so much fun to style with wedges and cutoffs. I think my closet is ready for spring, I’m just not sure that my skin is. Call me Snow White for now.

SHIRTDRESS SEASON

Details: Linen Shirtdress c/o J.Jill, here |

I probably have as many shirt dresses as I have socks. I can never have enough and I like them because not only are they classic, but they can be dressed up or down. This dress from J.Jill is not only on one of my favorite colors, but it’s super style-able. I layered a sweater vest over it and I like it because it breaks up the sometimes overwhelming stripes. Fortunately, there is no more snow in the forecast, so I will be able to style this the way it’s intended to be styled…with sandal wedges–of course! I can’t wait for 70-degree weather next week, I’m currently dusting off my shirtdresses and sleeveless tops.

MOM, DO YOU LIKE THIS?

DSC_0193edited LRDSC_0237EDITED LRDSC_0225edited lrDSC_0206edited.jpg LRDSC_0250edited LRDSC_0253edited LRDetails: Ann Taylor Stripe Pleated Cuff Blouse, similar here | Ann Taylor  Petite Wide Leg Marina Pants, here |

Nine times out of ten whenever I buy something new, my mom says: “Oh I had something just like that.” And I’m always like great, why did you ever give it away!?! I always ask my mom for style advice, because she kills it in the style department. She’s petite but is never afraid to try a trend. I’m the same way; I really don’t have a genre of my style. I mean, some may disagree, but I wear what I like and to be honest, I think it’s super juvenile for people to bucket a person into a specific style genre. That’s dumb. I always hear girls say stupid things like: “she was wearing this flannel shirt, leggings and uggs– so basic.” And I laugh to myself because, shit, I wear that and I don’t think I’m “basic.” What is basic? And maybe I am, but I certainly do not care what anyone thinks of my style, except maybe my mom. It’s true. I can’t remember a time where I gave two sh**s about what people thought of my clothes. See, when you’re comfortable with what you’re wearing it shows and people either love it or hate it. How confident you are will determine how your “haters” react. So, chin up! Even if your outfit isn’t something that someone else would wear themselves, they’ll still respect you. This outfit is bold for me. While I love wide leg pants, it’s hard for me to find the right ones because I’m super short. These wide leg pants from Ann Taylor are available in petite sizes, so they fit perfectly and they’re super comfortable. I’m excited to break them in this spring–whenever that’s coming. They’re a great alternative to shorts for work and the warmer months. I paired it with this funky 70s inspired pleated cuff blouse; I  love everything about it. It’s so different and it makes any solid color bottom look stunning. If you’re already a bold stylista, stay bold and if you’re not, then get your bold on. Oh and only listen to what your mom says. Moms always tell the truth and they know what looks good but if your mom doesn’t, call mine!

K. I’VE HAD ENOUGH.

Details: Easy Linen and Cotton Pullover c/o J.Jill, here | H&M short trench/overcoat, similar here |

There are so many changes happening at work and I’ve been getting antsy with this terrible weather we’ve been having; it feels like senioritis. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to kick my puffy winter coat, but that hasn’t stopped me from shopping around for cute lightweight trenches and overcoats. It all started when I was an hour early to my hair appointment that happened to be located in Boston’s biggest shopping destination: Newbury Street. I decided to kill time and walk across the street to H&M, when I came across this cream colored minimalist beauty. I had to try it on, just to see. I had no intention of making a purchase, but if the shoe fits! Am I right? I picked it up, put it down. Picked it up again, and clung to it when I saw other shoppers eyeing it. That’s it! I was sold. And I am not disappointed–it has been one of my favorite spring season purchases thus far. I layered it over a simple blue J.Jill pullover, allowing it to pop and what can I say, blue is my color. This sweater is one of my favorites because it hangs just in the right place, above my waist. It’s linen and cotton, making it airy and easy to wear in the warmer months (whenever they decide to show up). While I’m anxiously awaiting the arrival of spring weather, I’m making due with cute staples like these. Don’t you worry, bank account there will be many more spring purchases to be had!

VALENTINE’S DAY GIFTS TO GIVE YOURSELF

1.

So many people believe Valentine’s Day is a poor excuse for a holiday, and I can’t disagree. We should express love daily. Whether you’re in a relationship or not, show yourself some love, and I know just the products.

1.  TriDerma Spot and Wrinkle Erasing Cream:  Since I entered into my late 20s, I’ve been taking my skincare seriously. I haven’t been actively looking for wrinkle creams or anti-aging serums, but when I came across TriDerma and gave them a shot, I was hooked. This Spot and Wrinkle Erasing cream is super lightweight and not at all greasy, which I love, but it also has lightening power. It makes my skin look brighter and since I’m prone to breakouts, I was concerned it would clog my pores, but my skin has seriously never looked better.

2. TriDerma Pore Reducing Anti-Age Serum:  I never imagined myself reaching for an anti-age serum at my age, but this is one is AMAZING. All of TriDerma’s products are medical strength and it’s noticeable. I really like this serum because it works as a primer and does more than just “fill in” pores. It actually reduces the appearance of pores and helps control excess oil throughout the day. I usually apply this after the Spot and Wrinkle erasing cream and before my moisturizer/makeup. My pores immediately felt tight and after a couple weeks, I noticed much smaller pores–success!

3.  Re-Fresh French Bulldog Sweater:  This cozy knit is the closest I’ll get to getting a pup. Who doesn’t want a pooch embroidered knit!?

4. Homesick Candles:  Everyone who knows me, knows that I LOVE my home state of New Jersey, and when I received this Homesick New Jersey candle from my mom for Valentine’s Day, I was thrilled. It smells exactly like the garden state; a scent of the Jersey Shore fills my apartment and I LOVE it. Now my little apartment smells just like home. All Homesick candles are made in the USA with natural soy wax. It’s the perfect gift to giver yourself, especially if you’re away from the ones you love most.

5. TriDerma Spot and Wrinkle Erasing Scrub: Okay, now THIS is my all time favorite TriDerma product. I actually couldn’t stop using this when I got it (I’m not sure it’s ideal for daily use, although I didn’t see it as a problem). This scrub contains Precision Diamond Cut Crystals that act as a surgeon’s scalpel gently exfoliating dead skin cells to help stimulate collagen, diminish the fine lines and wrinkles, help flatten the look of acne scars and correct uneven skin tone. When I read this on the back of this scrub, I was excited to try it, but I was even more ecstatic with the results. It really does go on rough (in a good way), it almost feels like what I imagine a surgeon’s scalpel would feel like. My skin just looked so even after one wash and it was so refreshing and clean. I would suggest using it 1-2 times a week. I was using it daily for a week straight, and my skin felt amazing, but any exfoliating scrub is best to limit to 1-3 times a week (in my “expert” opinion at least).

6. Rose Gold-Tone Earrings:  For a while, I thought the rose gold trend was dead, but it is certainly alive and well. Treat yourself to some shimmer with a pair of rose gold stud earrings. Wear them daily and/or for a night out with your favorite Galentines!

7. H&M Lace Bra and Underwear Set: Whether you have a Valentine or not, invest in a fun lace bra and underwear set. It alone will make you feel sexy and beautiful. And, you don’t have to spend a fortune. This set is approximately $25.00 and it’s available in a variety of colors.

Make this Valentine’s Day the best one yet, by pampering yourself with a new skincare regimen, cozy knit or some new bling!
