WHAT I WISH I WORE THIS WEEKEND

Details: Goodnight Macaroon ‘Riley’ Chambray Off the Shoulder Top, here  | Banana Republic white wide leg pants, similar here and here |

This weekend was your average weekend in New England in May–unpredictable. Friday night was beautiful and ended with a rainbow across the shoreline’s sky. Saturday was blissfully sunny with a comfortable breeze and Sunday was eh. It was hot and cold–literally. Nonetheless, it was a beautiful weekend filled with family, wine and lots of laughs. I was planning on donning my chambray off-the-shoulder top with these Banana Republic white wide leg pants. But like my dad always says: “we make plans and God laughs.” So, I resorted to a look that was much more well-suited to the weather. It doesn’t mean I love this outfit any less. I’ll just save it for a brighter day. I really love this top because it’s one of those comfortable OTS tops; it doesn’t slip off my shoulders and it’s a great length, not too short, not too long. I recently purchased these wide leg pants from Banana Republic and not only are they comfortable, but they’re so easy to wear. They look super sophisticated (and believe me, they are), but the material is practical and comfortable. It’s a cotton mix, making it a casual option that you can bring to the next level or wear with a laid back tee–the options are endless. I had all of these outfits I was wishing to wear this weekend, but I guess I jumped the gun a bit. Just because it’s the first weekend of summer to us, doesn’t mean Mother Nature agrees.

MOM, DO YOU LIKE THIS?

Nine times out of ten whenever I buy something new, my mom says: “Oh I had something just like that.” And I’m always like great, why did you ever give it away!?! I always ask my mom for style advice, because she kills it in the style department. She’s petite but is never afraid to try a trend. I’m the same way; I really don’t have a genre of my style. I mean, some may disagree, but I wear what I like and to be honest, I think it’s super juvenile for people to bucket a person into a specific style genre. That’s dumb. I always hear girls say stupid things like: “she was wearing this flannel shirt, leggings and uggs– so basic.” And I laugh to myself because, shit, I wear that and I don’t think I’m “basic.” What is basic? And maybe I am, but I certainly do not care what anyone thinks of my style, except maybe my mom. It’s true. I can’t remember a time where I gave two sh**s about what people thought of my clothes. See, when you’re comfortable with what you’re wearing it shows and people either love it or hate it. How confident you are will determine how your “haters” react. So, chin up! Even if your outfit isn’t something that someone else would wear themselves, they’ll still respect you. This outfit is bold for me. While I love wide leg pants, it’s hard for me to find the right ones because I’m super short. These wide leg pants from Ann Taylor are available in petite sizes, so they fit perfectly and they’re super comfortable. I’m excited to break them in this spring–whenever that’s coming. They’re a great alternative to shorts for work and the warmer months. I paired it with this funky 70s inspired pleated cuff blouse; I  love everything about it. It’s so different and it makes any solid color bottom look stunning. If you’re already a bold stylista, stay bold and if you’re not, then get your bold on. Oh and only listen to what your mom says. Moms always tell the truth and they know what looks good but if your mom doesn’t, call mine!

OUT OF CHARACTER + SASSY

I know I sound like a broken record, but lately, it has been so difficult for me to get out of this wardrobe funk. It’s such a weird time–I mean it’s April and it feels a lot more like February. I’m pretty sick of my winter clothes and I haven’t been able to break out my light spring looks because goosebumps aren’t a good look. This weekend, I got fed up and tried to think of a fresh new look, one that could inspire me to kick this funk to the curb. I purchased this long sleeve deep v crop top a while ago when I was as pale as the snow, and after self-tanning sessions, I felt confident enough to style it. I recovered my trusted wide leg spring white pants and this outfit was born. When I go shopping I tend to buy the same type of clothing–it’s hard not to. If you ask my style bestie, he will tell you that I prefer booties of pumps in the winter and wedges over strappy sandal heels in the summer. While I have a ton of dresses that I love, I can’t help but feel most comfortable in pants. From skinny jeans to wide leg culottes; I love it all! I’m really struggling with my blog lately, so from here on out I’m going to make a concerted effort to give my wardrobe the love and attention it deserves. Now, get your butt in gear spring.

MID-WINTER PICK ME UP

I’m getting so tired of my winter wardrobe lately–every morning I stare at my closet full of darks and neutrals, sweaters and pants, and groan with boredom. So to spark some inspiration I decided to revisit my spring wardrobe to find some pieces I can revive in this 10 degree weather we’ve been experiencing. As I was sifting through my pastel rompers and floral sundresses, reminiscing over coatless days and flip flops, I came across my most prized wide-leg pants from Bar iii; beaming with excitement I quickly paired my sleeveless sweater (another long time spring friend) and layered on a winter staple–  Ta-da! A (semi) brand new outfit for me to take on these brutally cold days while still combatting these frigid temps. It’s just the pick me up I needed to get out of this mid-winter rut. Oh and hey spring? yea, you can come back now, thanks.

If you find yourself in a winter wardrobe slump, revisit your old spring favorites–you’ll be surprised with what you find!

Happy Friday!
