A LESSON LEARNED

Do you remember the days when your parents bought you clothes and “styled” you? And while you had some inkling of an opinion it wasn’t much. I remember how badly I wanted a Lisa Frank backpack, specifically the one with the two cats one was magenta and the other purple surrounded by sunflowers. For some reason my mom never let me get that backpack, she tried to explain to me that it wasn’t practical. So I settled for folders and notebooks filled with unicorns and magenta colored cats. And instead got a navy LL Bean backpack with my initials monogrammed on the back. At the time, I assume I had a minor meltdown, but now I’d like to thank my mom for making me conscious of how important it is to make practical clothing/handbag choices.

Often times, we end up getting so wrapped up in making a “statement” that we don’t realize, less is more and a statement is often made by the way you’re wearing the clothing, not  what you’re wearing.

Today, I’m honoring one of my most classic and practical pieces—The Fisherman Sweater. It’s one of those sweaters that knows no limits, it can be dressed up and down, worn with your favorite pair of boyfriend jeans or a cute mini. I paired mine with this brown faux leather skirt that was on promo at H&M for $9.99–NOT EVEN KIDDING; an amazing deal and the fabric isn’t restricting, making it versatile enough to wear throughout various seasons.

So I guess, some credit is due to my classy and practical little mom, I think she helped me avoid a potential neon obsession.

SUMMONING WARMER WEATHER

I am so sick of this cold weather, it’s really cramping my style, I started thinking– maybe if I start wearing skirts more often it would summon the warmer weather? Wishful thinking? Yea, I know it’s crazy but it doesn’t hurt. So today, I’m ignoring the cold and shedding light on one of my faves– this gold monogram shine box pleat skirt from Banana. It’s best to pair it with a more subtle top since the skirt deserves everyone’s eyes. I’m a sucker for comfort, so I went with my cozy black turtleneck–the contrast of the black and gold gives the skirt the attention it deserves. While this is a more classic look, you can get a little less conventional and pair it with a chambray shirt and some black booties. Don’t be afraid to get creative, just remember to keep it simple.

I didn’t realize how much love I had for Banana until I started blogging, but their petite section is everything– pants and skirts now look normal on me– no more cuff rolling or skirt hiking. Ahhh! all this talk about Banana is making me want to shop–if you need me I’ll be getting after these President’s Day sales.

Happy three day weekend lovelies!

xx
