LET QUILTED COAT & VEST SEASON BEGIN

Details: Ann Taylor bonfire sweater, here | Quilted down coat in Peat c/o J.Jill, here |

So we’ve had a few true fall days, but it looks like we’re going to be back in the 80-degree weather today. I don’t know about you, but I find it super frustrating planning my outfit in the morning because I’m cold when I wake up and sweating on my lunch break. Despite what we might be experiencing, the season we’re currently in is in fact fall. And that means that we’re in quilted coat season. Every fall I seem to get myself a new quilted coat and this olive green lightweight down coat from J.Jill has become my favorite. It’s super lightweight and breathable so it’s actually easy to wear in this flighty weather. I typically gravitate toward taupe or black, but I’m loving this dark olive green color because it’s neutral yet adds a necessary pop of color. Speaking of color, this Ann Taylor Bonfire sweater is AMAZING. It’s a 70’s throwback (I think LOL). I love the vintage look and the pop of color really brightens up my neutral fall wardrobe. It’s comfortable and fun to layer with a quilted coat, denim jacket or puffer vest–HELL YES!

I think it’s safe to say that my fall closet is starting to come together, we just need Mother Nature to cooperate.

DON’T JUDGE A TREND BY ONE LOOK

Details: Almond green bomber jacket Marshall’s, similar here | Embroidered weekender jeans c/o J.Jill, here |

I’ll admit, I really wasn’t a fan of the bomber jacket trend. Not the traditional bomber jacket, but the lightweight bomber ones. There was something about them that I couldn’t take seriously. It was an episode of Southern Charm where Chelsea was wearing this really cute metallic blush bomber jacket, that I said I NEED one. I went to so many stores, scoured the internet for something similar but there was nothing. I actually gave up and quit my search until I walked into Marshall’s and stumbled upon this Kensie almond green bomber jacket with black trim. It’s shiny–not exactly metallic, but it’s perfect. The weather has been so ideal for light bomber jacket weather, so you can imagine how much I’ve been wearing it. Then, there were embroidered jeans: another trend I really couldn’t get behind. I don’t know what it was about them that I didn’t like. I guess I kind of felt like they were tacky and outdated (not in a good way). Again, I was wrong. It just took the right embroidered jeans to change my mind. These Weekender jeans from J.Jill have blue and green stem flowers, making it understated and classy. I feel like when there’s a really bold color flower it’s difficult to style, but these go with everything. They”re super versatile and a really fun way to change up your wardrobe in the fall months. I guess I need to take my own advice and not judge a trend by one or two looks… you have to try it out for yourself.

What trends were you wrong about?

REVAMP THE OLD WITH ACCESSORIES

Details: Express Deep V Pink top, similar here | Charming Charlie The Austin earring, here |

I had the best vacation week last week! It was sunny nearly every day, I read a total of four books and I was with my two favorites: mom and dad. Although it has been difficult to get back to work, I’m pleasantly surprised at how fast this week is going…it’s Wednesday already! With these steamy temps, I’ve been resorting to sleeveless tops and bare leg. One of my recent favorite tops is this flowy pink deep V top. It’s comfortable and simple. In an effort to protect my bank account, I’ve been purchasing fun earrings to make some of my older tops feel new. Even though this top is a newbie to my closet, I decided to take things up a notch and accessorize with this colorful complementary 3-ball earrings from Charming Charlie. I love these earrings so much that I purchased them in a couple other colors. What!?!? I’m still saving, they were only $12 (blushing). Cheers to hump day and saving money! Instead of collecting new tops and dresses, revamp your oldies but goodies with some fun accessories. Trust me, you’ll look at your older clothes in a whole new way.

MY GROWN UP HOODIE

DSC_0700 editedDSC_0701 editedDSC_0678 editedDSC_0690 editedDSC_0746 editedDSC_0741 editedDSC_0732 editedDetails: Black and white chevron hoodie c/o J. Jill, here | Dark wash denim pants from Gap, similar here | Superga slip-on sneakers c/o J. Jill, here |

Is it just me or did everyone have a favorite hoodie in high school? I remember mine, it was bright blue from Abercrombie & Fitch and it had the traditional logo in a deeper navy blue. I loved that hoodie, I used to spray it in my favorite perfume when I’d get ready for the first football game of the season. I often think about how the younger Jackie used to dress and I burst out laughing. Today, I would NEVER douse an article of clothing in perfume or wear a tattoo choker necklace—what was I thinking?! While I’ve since retired my Abercrombie & Fitch hoodie, that doesn’t mean I don’t have a selection  in my fall wardrobe. Hoodies are like comfort food, they make you feel good and perhaps sometimes they look too casual, there are ways you can make them appropriate. This black and white chevron hoodie from J. Jill is extremely thick and cozy, and  it’s definitely the most sophisticated hoodie I’ve ever owned. I mean it’s probably not something 15 year old Jackie would wear, but perfect for the here and now. I’m pretty sure this is going to become my favorite adult life hoodie.

KNITWEAR PREP

I think I speak for most fall lovers when I say, that layering and chunky sweaters are the best part of a fall wardrobe. Considering  today marks the first official day of fall, I felt it was only appropriate to share one of my newest fall favorites. With the winters we’ve been experiencing, you can never have too many sweaters. This J. Jill mixed pattern topper is unlike my current knit selection, with its unique pattern mix and varying textures. It’s a perfect combination of marled yarns, herringbone and plaid patterns. OH! and cozy is an understatement, plus this topper is so warm  and not itchy like other heavy knits. Once it becomes weather appropriate I fully intend on pairing it with my black leather  pants and booties. I always feel that there’s a huge rush to jump into fall, and I prematurely start busting out my flannels but I think this week’s weather has proven that fall is actually beginning. With that being said, Happy Fall! (Let’s hold off on winter for as long as possible).

Also, since moving to Boston I happily reconnected with an old friend from college who started her own photography business Lindsay Connor’s Photography, check it out— she’s amazing and so easy and fun to work with!

A FRESH START

IMG_8449 editedIMG_8455 editedIMG_8462 editedIMG_8495 editedDetails: Banana Republic white blouse, similar style here| Banana Republic white pants, here | BCBGMaxzria two-toned pump, similar here|

The official last day of summer is September 22nd and I’ll be honest I’m having mixed feelings. However, since I’m embarking on a new chapter I feel it’s only appropriate that a new season is beginning. I’ve always been one to follow rules, but when it comes to clothing rules just don’t work for me. So as you can imagine that whole not wearing white after Labor Day has never been been a rule I’ve tried to follow, even when it was taken “seriously”. I love nothing more than a loose fitting white top, which is why this one from Banana Republic will remain a mainstay in my closet well into fall. And I can imagine you’re pretty tired of seeing these white Banana Republic pants, but that should tell you just how necessary they are. So while you’ll probably see me shift into fall, I still plan to keep some of favorite summer staples on hand for a fun mix.
