I spent this Thanksgiving holiday with my family, in New Jersey and it was just what I needed after a busy few weeks at work. It felt good being surrounded by the people who mean the most to me, and not to mention all the delicious food. Along with quality family time I made sure to hit up all of my favorite local spots; considering Bostonians don’t know what good bagels are,  I made sure my first stop was my favorite deli for a breakfast sandwich. When I wasn’t stuffing my face, I managed to get some Christmas shopping done at a couple boutiques I love. As you all know, I can never visit home without returning to Ladyfingers, my old stomping grounds, and as always I managed to find some major must-haves. But I also stopped at a new favorite, Beyond Trends in Somerville, NJ. When I arrived Wednesday night they were preparing for the weekend; setting up displays featuring brand new holiday dresses and some much-needed winter accessories. I literally wasn’t able to control myself, but the one dress that I couldn’t manage to leave without was this burgundy long-sleeve body-con number. The thing is, I like the idea of wearing dresses for the holidays, but it is SO hard; it’s always cold, my legs are pale and 9 times out of 10 I intend on stuffing my face with food (dresses aren’t meant for that). This one is different because it’s perfectly practical.  Its long sleeves and high neck don’t make you self conscious about your casper arms and chest and the length hits the middle of your calf so your legs are somewhat protected from the colder temps. I have been stocking up on so many dresses lately I’m running out of places to wear them! If you didn’t have a chance to stop at your local shops on small business Saturday, take some time this season to give them some love; your community will be better for it.

xx
