STICK TO THE CLASSICS

Details: (Older) Houndstooth Coat, similar here | American Eagle Plush Sweater, here

I’ve always been a fan of the classics: tweed, herringbone, and houndstooth. Specifically houndstooth. There’s just something about it that brings an outfit to the next level and even though this lightweight houndstooth coat is from last year, it will never go out of style and it looks amazing with this plush mustard color sweater. As you can probably tell, it has the ability to bring the most casual of looks to the next level, but can also be worn just as easily with a classic LBD. I know I’ve been featuring some older pieces, but just like Monday’s cardigan, I found a few styles that are similar and just as perfect. This one from Brooks Brothers is super affordable and has a pop of red on its color–hello fabulous! Other perfect options include this one, this one and DUH this one! Regardless of if you consider your style preppy, minimalist or edgy, you can and will never go wrong with a classic staple like a houndstooth coat. Trust me!!

MORE COMFORT, LESS MONDAY

Details: Neutral color-block cardigan (old), similar here, here and here | UNIQLO jogger pants, here |

Mondays are THE worst, especially now that it’s getting colder. Although my work dress code is super casual, I always feel like when I dress up for work, I feel better and more productive. Super weird, I know. So in an effort to kick off the work week, I pulled out this somewhat monochromatic look. Neutrals are my favorite so it shouldn’t be surprising that this neutral color-block cardigan has made it to my wardrobe from last season. Yep! That’s right. It escaped my closet purge, and for good reason. It is super comfortable and it goes with EVERYTHING. With the goal of comfort on my mind, I slipped on another last season favorite, my UNIQLO joggers. These light beige joggers aren’t just for summer but work just as well in the fall and winter months. This entire look depends on the shoes. If you glide on a backless loafer, it will look super casual and sweet, but as soon as you slip on a pump, you’ve upped your outfit game. These Ann Taylor neutral pumps are also unbelievably comfortable and I also purchased them, you guessed it, LAST SEASON. Well, if there’s one thing I get right on a Monday, it’s this outfit. Now let’s go kick some ass!

GREY, PLAID AND CHECK: I’M SOLD

dsc_0148editeddsc_0145editeddsc_0141editeddsc_0186editedDetails: Contrast Ribbed Trim Check Plaid Sweater c/o SheIn, here |

I know what you’re thinking, another sweater. I can’t help myself! It’s the season for sweaters and I really can’t seem to have enough. I always go for the cardigans, but I rarely find pullover sweater that I really love or have to have. When I saw this one, I knew I had to have it hanging in my closet. I love how it’s short enough to fit just above my pants. Part of the problem I have with pullovers is that they’re often too long and since I’m so short, they stunt my growth. I still feel hazy from my long holiday vacation, and this shoot is rubbing salt in the wound since it was taken while we were visiting Josh’s aunt and uncle in VA. It’s so nice to spend the holidays relaxing and with family and this was one of the outfits I practically lived in. Not only can I wear it with jeans, but it would look just as perfect with a black or gray skirt. I promise I’ll start sharing more clothing, other than cozy sweaters. However, living in Boston, it’s all I can really wear right now. Stay tuned!

POST HOLIDAY REDS

dsc_0818editeddsc_0815-1editeddsc_0829editeddsc_0855editedDetails: Romwe black choker cut out zipper sleeve sweater, here | J.Crew black red check wool skirt (old) similar, here |

After an entire week with family in New Jersey, it really hurts to have to go back to work. It felt so good to be back in my hometown and I hadn’t eaten or slept that well in a while. I love the holidays. I say this every year, but I think I love the days leading up to Christmas more than I like Christmas. Those days are just filled with Christmas music, movies, shopping and nights on the couch enjoying a lit tree. As soon as I got back to Boston, I turned my tree on, flicked on the movie ELF and drank out of my Santa mug. I guess you could say that’s denial at its finest. However, even though the holidays are over, it doesn’t mean you can’t rock that infamous Christmas red. I pulled out my vintage red and check wool skirt from J.Crew and abandoned my usual fitted turtleneck and paired it with this trendy choker cut out zipper sleeve sweater. It’s super cozy and the funky zipper sleeves give this look an edge. I’ll admit, I wasn’t too keen on the choker trend, but after giving this sweater a shot, I think I’m a believer.

WINTER SCHMINTER

dsc_0356editeddsc_0323editeddsc_0364editeddsc_0396editeddsc_0391editeddsc_0402Details: Highland Park long down puffer vest c/o J.Jill, here | Frye Cara boots in Elephant c/o J.Jill, here | Faux Fur Pom Beanie, purchased at Ladyfingers boutique,  can also be found here and a similar style here

The winter weather is finally here and I can’t say I’m super thrilled about it, especially considering the heat in my car isn’t working. Anyway, this will be my second winter in Boston and I have to say I’ve been spoiled. Last year, was super mild and this December we’ve seen 60-degree weather! Fortunately, I’m prepared. Not only do I have several puffer coats, but I have this cozy long down puffer vest. It has been a godsend. I’ve been wearing it to yoga and work–it’s the perfect top layer to take the chill out of your bones. I wasn’t sure how I was going to like the longer length, considering I’m short, but it fits perfectly and not to mention, it keeps my booty warm. In addition to layers, it’s important to keep that noggin cozy. Which is why I invested in yet, another faux fur mom beanie. Instead of sticking to my neutral norm, I went bold and picked up this coral/pink color. It adds the perfect pop to any outerwear look.

P.S. If you’re in the North Jersey area, aka Morris County, stop by Ladyfingers to pick one of your own up!

COATIGANS & LEATHER

dsc_0677editeddsc_0690editeddsc_0704editeddsc_0708editeddsc_0718editeddsc_0721editeddsc_0725Details: LOFT Plaid Cape Coat, here | Hue black faux leather leggings, here | Gap turtleneck sweater, similar here |

I’ve always shopped at Ann Taylor, but I was never really a fan of the LOFT until I happened to pass by recently and a few things caught my eye. And I was pleasantly surprised to find a ton of cute sweaters, cardigans, and dresses. They even have activewear from Lou & Grey–really cute, and reasonably priced. I wasn’t even in there 5 minutes before I had an arm full of clothing to try on. I was going nuts, and as soon as I laid my eyes on this coatigan (that’s what they call it, a coatigan; clever right?!), I knew I had to have it. It’s perfect, I love the classic check pattern, especially the light gray, black and beige color combination. For the chilly days ahead, layering it over an extra comfy knit is a must, and this oversized turtleneck from GAP is SO comfortable that I have it another a couple different colors (not sorry). I’m also pretty excited that leather legging season is back. I have several pairs of leather leggings, all from different places, but these HUE leggings are by far my favorite. They are perfectly priced, comfortable and not too heavy or warm. Some leather leggings are so uncomfortably hot that it’s difficult to wear them. It finally feels like I can get in full fall/winter wardrobe and now, I can add the LOFT to my list. Sorry bank account!

CHUNKY KNIT WEATHER

dsc_0948editeddsc_0984editeddsc_0966editeddsc_0004editeddsc_0007Details: Cupshe ‘Cup of Cozy’ casual sweater, here  |

Every morning this week I’ve woken up to 40-degree weather. Brrr! When I said I want the fall weather I didn’t mean that fall weather. However, after a weekend filled with rain and long lounge sessions, it feels good to wake up to blue crisp skies, hold the crisp. As you know, my fall wardrobe is in limbo right now because much of my clothing is back in New Jersey. Although I’ve slowly been picking up new pieces, and this only means that I’ll have to purge some of my older clothing. It really is time for me to let go of my (past) clothing. And speaking of new, yes, you guessed it! This chunky khaki knit is brand spankin’ new, and if you see me on the weekend there’s a 95-percent chance I’m wearing it all.weekend.long. I’ve been resorting to simple looks lately and I’m starting to realize that less is actually more. This also applies to my ever-growing closet. I’ve been going through some of my clothing lately and am realizing that with many pieces, the quality is lacking and there are way too many one-hit wonders. That is, clothing I wear once and abandon because it’s a fleeting trend that doesn’t last more than a month. Lately, I’ve been styling simple staples and not only have I received various compliments, but I feel and look more sophisticated and mature. I’m 27 years old now. I have to start acting like it (only when I feel like it). In all seriousness, a closet purge is in order for me and if I can give you any advice on how not to let your overwhelming closet filled with one-hit wonders get the best of you, it’s to invest in staples and only staples. You know, those timeless pieces that add sophistication and class to your wardrobe.

‘STRANGER THINGS’ INSPIRED

dsc_0798editeddsc_0807editeddsc_0815editeddsc_0843editeddsc_0845editedDetails: Cambridge Fair Isle Pullover c/o J.Jill, here |

You know those sweaters from the 70’s, the ones with the crochet patterns that stretch across the shoulders? You know, the ones most recently on Stranger Things? Yeah, those. Well, I’m a huge fan of 70’s style and this Cambridge Fair Isle Pullover c/o J.Jill has me swooning. First of all, the fit is flawless. It’s just the right length and it’s super soft and cozy. I paired it with my favorite pair of jeans, but I have plans to style it with a skirt and layer it over a chambray shirt. I think some people tend to shy away from bold sweaters like this one because it’s not your typical solid color sweater and that’s what makes it great. This fall, I challenge you to wear something bold and feel confident in it. That’s difficult, I know, but when you do it once and realize you can own it, then you can wear just about anything–no joke! Go on, and share you bold, out of the box styles with me :).

QUILTED COATS: AN OUTERWEAR STAPLE

dsc_0062editeddsc_0028editeddsc_0039editeddsc_0082editeddsc_0090editedDetails: Diamond- Quilted Zipper-Front Jacket in port c/o J.Jill, here |

I don’t remember September being so cold and rainy, but this week has been miserable and next week looks almost as jbad. I guess it’s just a good excuse to cozy up and relax this weekend. The weather has me thinking more seriously about my outerwear. The time period between heavy sweaters and puffer coats, there’s always a reliable quilted coat. Honestly, I wish I could wear a quilted coat all year long, but if I can’t I’m glad I can spend this short and sweet time with this diamond- quilted zip-front jacket. Compared to my other quilted coats, this one is super cozy and a bit on the heavier side, so perhaps it could get you into the beginning of December. I love neutrals. Most of my coats are either taupe or brown, but I decided to go bold with this port color and to be honest, it has become a new favorite “neutral” of mine. I’m anxious to get underway with fall festivities now that my fall wardrobe is finally coming together (slowly, but surely).

THE UNLIKELY DUO

dsc_0859editeddsc_0895editeddsc_0857editeddsc_0858editeddsc_0864editeddsc_0911editeddsc_0924editedDetails: ‘Cold Shoulder’ sweater c/o Dress Lily, here | Audrey Brooke Cindy Wedge bootie via DSW, here |

Sweater weather is here and I’ve been going out of my mind because my fall clothes are all at “home” in New Jersey. I wasn’t prepared for the fall weather to happen so fast; it went from hot to cold like that! I guess I’ll have to go shopping until I can make it home to get my clothes ;). In the meantime, I did add a new addition to my wardrobe with this off-the-shoulder wide turtleneck knit sweater. I’ve been waiting  to wear it and was finally able to style it this weekend. It’s SO cozy AND it includes two of my favorite clothing features: bare shoulders and a turtleneck. It’s a sweater of unity, bringing the summer and fall seasons together to make a sexy yet cozy knit. And not only did I discover a new sweater style, BUT I found a fresh new  clothing site. That’s right, another shopping site to peruse and another virtual shopping cart to fill. Dress Lily offers a wide variety of clothing from swimwear to formal dresses and everything in between, all at a reasonable price. The quality is exceptional and there are so many options in each clothing category that you’ll have to continue to edit your shopping cart. You’ll also notice that I found my booties for the season and these adorable wedges are from DSW the designer is not one I’ve heard of before, Audrey Brooke. However, they’re comfortable and give me the height I need to make me eye level with my peers LOL. Even though I’m currently lacking in fall clothing I can assure you I’ll have some more new styles to share in the upcoming weeks! Hello, shopping spree!
