Summer is slowly coming to a close and I’m over here trying to get in my last few warm weather looks. I’m very aware that we can expect a heatwave or two in October. It always seems to work like that, but I want to make sure I’m bearing as much skin now before I’m cloaked in oversized knits, jackets and scarves. Layering is so much fun until it’s April and it’s just…not.

It really has been a great summer, though. I felt like I was busy nearly every weekend. I enjoyed a trip to colorado, joined a kickball league with friends, and spent many weekends soaking up the sun at my family’s beach house in CT. Every summer seems to go by so fast, I just don’t expect anything less anymore. This way, I’m less disappointed when it flies by.

I think I’m just in the season of strolling down memory lane, but sometimes I miss the summer days of aimlessly laying by a pool or on a beach. The days when I would make meatballs out of the perfect combination of dry and wet sand, or when I would spend my nights hanging out in the town beach parking lot doused in Bath & Body Works body spray and with a Maybeline JUICY lipgloss in my back pocket. I spent so many summers wishing I was old enough to drive or old enough to stay out past 11pm. Truth be told, young little Jackie, driving is overrated and being in bed before 11pm is a blessing. There were so many great memories and there are so many more to be made. Enjoy every bit of it.

So, to celebrate the conclusion of another summer, wear your favorite summer top and those perfect blue jeans and enjoy the sun shining on your face. Oh, and to pregame fall, grab a fall scented candle…or five.

This weekend was a scorcher…finally! So naturally, I spent both Saturday and Sunday basking on the beach and enjoying the warmth. There was such a nice breeze by the water that it was difficult to gauge how much sun I was getting and I ended up a little crisp. Now that the weather is finally feeling like the way it’s supposed to, I’ve been excited to try out new outfits. I’ve always been a fan of cropped flowy culottes and these tropical ones from J.Jill have become an all time summer favorite. They are super light weight and breezy. In addition to this funky floral pattern, they are also available in some neutral solids as well as in a deep blue pattern. I paired them with a very fitted top, but I’ve also worn a fun looser fitting and fringe top and it looked just as good. I’ll definitely be experimenting with these this summer and may even purchase another pair (they’re that comfortable!).

I would honestly wear a romper or a jumpsuit every single day if I could. I actually own enough of them to do so, but I won’t delve into this somewhat, unhealthy obsession. Is it just me, or does anyone else receive a distasteful reaction from their beau when they slip one on? Josh doesn’t seem to understand them and it would probably be an issue if I cared, but I don’t. However, when I picked up this sexy off-the-shoulder romper from the Banana Republic Factory store and tried it on to show him, he actually really liked it. What?! This must actually be a winner. While guys are severely simple-minded when it comes to fashion, I do trust that they know what looks “attractive.” I’d be lying if I said I don’t care at least a little bit about what my boyfriend thinks of my outfit choices. If I love it, then there’s no question, but if I’m having doubts about a garment I usually seek his opinion as a deal breaker. Regardless, this romper is not only super sexy, but it’s also comfortable and easy to slip on and off (for bathroom purposes, guys! Get your mind out of the gutter). It can be made sophisticated with wedges or casual with your favorite pair of flip-flops. I don’t know about you, but if you’re attending a relatively casual wedding this season, this could even serve as a viable outfit option. Throw your hair up in a sleek up-do and strap on some heels–you’ll be set!

P.S. It’s on sale RIGHT NOW for $18–go grab it!

When I first entered the workforce I had an idea of how I was “supposed” to dress. Considering all of my jobs were within the fashion industry, I slowly realized that anything goes as long as you look cute. It wasn’t until I started working at a more corporate fashion company, that I could no longer get away with wearing my favorite designer jeans and a cute top. I really didn’t mind the “corporate” dress code, there was still an edge because it was a luxury fashion company, but during the fall and winter months, I definitely outwore my favorite black leggings. So when summer rolled around I couldn’t wait to don cute dresses and fun open-toed pumps. Since then, I’ve become a dress hoarder. I have so many dresses and I can’t stop buying them. But now that I’m in PR, I’m back to my favorite kind of dress code: anything goes, as long as you look cute. However, I still like to wear my favorite corporate-friendly dresses from time to time. In fact, I came across this Ann Taylor geometric patterned dress while shopping at the outlets and felt it would be the perfect addition to my dress collection. Its light-weight material and long sleeves make it ideal for the ice box office in the summer months and I’ve already worn it several times–even in 80-degree weather! While, I’m delighted to have the freedom to wear what I please, I did like the “challenge” a “corporate” dress code. Sometimes at least.

A week from Tuesday, I’ll be on my way to Jamaica for a week. I’m super excited, especially because this rainy weather has been bumming me out. In gearing up for vacation,  I try to get one or two new bathing suits and I always seem to find a one-piece that I can’t live without. It’s funny, because when I was younger I couldn’t wait until I was allowed to wear a string bikini, but the trends seem to take us back to our younger years. During my sand mudpie making days you couldn’t pay me to get me out of my one-piece. I mean, when you think about it, a one-piece is the perfect beach companion. You don’t have to worry about losing your top while crushing the ocean waves, you can let it all hang out if you please and they’re super comfy. I’ve obviously moved on from my multi-color Limited Too bathing suits and am onto low-cut multi-color ones. Don’t get me wrong, I won’t be abandoning my bikinis for the summer, my tummy deserves some sun too, but for any upcoming beach/pool parties a one-piece can make for the perfect outfit. It’s like a waterproof bodysuit and everyone knows how much I love a bodysuit. I’m just about all set for my vacation, all I need are a couple cute cover-ups and I’ll be golden!

Happy summer!
