THE HEAT MADE ME DO IT

Details: LOFT Pleated Duet Dress, here | DSW two-toned sandals, similar here |

I recently went on a shopping binge at LOFT and came across this flowy pleated dress. The heat made me do it! It was so hot last week, and I was in desperate need of cute dresses and lightweight tops to keep me from getting heat stroke. It was basically prescribed by my doctor. It’s too late now anyway, the damage is done and I have some new summer clothes to show for it. Lately, the LOFT has been surprising me. I used to never think twice about walking in there because everything always seemed to be boxy and ill-fitting. I don’t know what they’ve been doing lately, but keep it! Not only do have they offer on-trend styles but the fit seems to be much more accurate. Plus, they have an awesome petite section so I’m able to pull off a mid-length dress like this because they offer it in petite–score! I’ve noticed lately, in my old age that the quality of your clothing means more than quantity, but having a lot of quality clothes is always better–I can’t help myself! I wish that we were experiencing that unseasonable heat this week, so I can rock this dress. It’s one that I would wear two days in a row–it’s that good! So, the lesson of the day: if you haven’t been into LOFT in a while, or ever because you thought it was outdated or ill-fitting, go on and stop in; I guarantee that you’ll find something you just have to have.

AN UNLIKELY DUO

DSC_0155editedDSC_0186editedDSC_0160editedDSC_0198edited

Details: Long sleeve lace-up sweater c/o Dresslily, here | J.Crew plaid skirt (old), similar here |

I never turn down a plaid skirt, but I really haven’t worn one in a while. When I received this burnt orange lace-up sweater, I decided to ditch my typical cardigan or turtleneck and give this classic skirt some bohemian flare. It’s true, I would normally wear this sweater with bell bottoms or my favorite boyfriend jeans, but I felt that it deserved to stand out. So I paired it with a J. Crew (old) plaid skirt, some knee high socks and booties. I wasn’t sure how I would feel about this look, but it instantly became a favorite of mine. It’s refreshing to revamp classic staples with edgy counterparts. Give it a try and share with me your most unexpected outfit duo!

ALTERNATIVE FACT: WINTER IS OVER

DSC_0227editedDSC_0244editedDSC_0260editedDSC_0240editedDSC_0284editedDSC_0312 2DSC_0305 2Brown knit sweater with white ruffle details c/o SheIn, here | Hue leather leggings, here | Ivanka Trump Over-the-Knee suede boots from Macy’s, here |

It looks like some winter weather is finally making an appearance–I smell snow! We’ve been lucky with such a mild winter, it’s almost freaky how warm it has been. And I’ll admit, I’ve definitely over-worn my knits this winter; I’m just as tired of seeing me in an oversized turtleneck as my colleagues are. Which is why I was ecstatic to find this brown knit sweater accented by white cotton ruffles at the bottom and top. I love a high neck, so if I can’t wear my turtlenecks this ruffle accent will do! Instead of styling this with ole’ faithful blues, I slipped on some leather leggings and stepped up my shoe game with these black suede OTK boots. Not only are they comfortable, but they make me feel like a boss babe. I know we’re all pretty sick of layers and knits, but hang on just a little longer, spring is right around the corner. And in the meantime, invest in alternative sweaters like this one!

PEACE OUT 2016

dsc_0431editeddsc_0393editeddsc_0496editeddsc_0454editeddsc_0464Details: SheIn Color Block Drop Shoulder Cardigan, here |

It has been a wonderful holiday break and I’ve been able to spend some quality time with both my family and Josh’s. I know that 2016 gets a bad wrap, and I can’t say it was a great year, but it’s not a year to “take back.” It’s important to live your life with no regrets. Whatever happened this year, happened. Live with it and move on. You’re all alive and breathing, right? We made it through a ridiculous presidential election, we experienced great loss around the world and here in our own country, but like always, we came out on top. I can’t say 2016 was my best year, and I won’t promise that 2017 will be “the year” for me (whatever the hell that means), but I’m going to continue to spread love, work hard and give more. Remember to give yourself a break and know that you’re doing the best you can and that is always good enough. And, for the difficult days, we have cardigans. If you’re anticipating some trying times ahead, stock up on your knitwear and get your hands on this cozy color block drop shoulder cardigan from SheIn.  It’s comfortable and can be worn with ANYTHING. So, even if you’re not feeling so hot at least you’ll look like you have your sh*t together.

Cheers to 2017! Cut yourself some slack, and when times are tough, cozy up with a sweater.

COATIGANS & LEATHER

dsc_0677editeddsc_0690editeddsc_0704editeddsc_0708editeddsc_0718editeddsc_0721editeddsc_0725Details: LOFT Plaid Cape Coat, here | Hue black faux leather leggings, here | Gap turtleneck sweater, similar here |

I’ve always shopped at Ann Taylor, but I was never really a fan of the LOFT until I happened to pass by recently and a few things caught my eye. And I was pleasantly surprised to find a ton of cute sweaters, cardigans, and dresses. They even have activewear from Lou & Grey–really cute, and reasonably priced. I wasn’t even in there 5 minutes before I had an arm full of clothing to try on. I was going nuts, and as soon as I laid my eyes on this coatigan (that’s what they call it, a coatigan; clever right?!), I knew I had to have it. It’s perfect, I love the classic check pattern, especially the light gray, black and beige color combination. For the chilly days ahead, layering it over an extra comfy knit is a must, and this oversized turtleneck from GAP is SO comfortable that I have it another a couple different colors (not sorry). I’m also pretty excited that leather legging season is back. I have several pairs of leather leggings, all from different places, but these HUE leggings are by far my favorite. They are perfectly priced, comfortable and not too heavy or warm. Some leather leggings are so uncomfortably hot that it’s difficult to wear them. It finally feels like I can get in full fall/winter wardrobe and now, I can add the LOFT to my list. Sorry bank account!

A LAST MINUTE SUMMER ESSENTIAL

DSC_1054editedDSC_1052editedDSC_1066editedDSC_1101editedDSC_1097editedDSC_1105edited

The past couple months have been so crazy. Josh and I are moving in together this week and while I’ve been packing slowly, I still feel like I have so much to do. Plus, I’m having serious anxiety about closet space, but I’m trying very hard not to think about it. While I’m looking forward to chunky knits and cozy layers, but I have to say I’m going to miss my summer favorites; especially my many off-the-shoulder tops I’ve collected this season. This particular top combines two of my favorites: a bodysuit and an off-the-shoulder ruffle. There’s not much you need to do to dress up a shoulder-less top because it’s already sophisticated and sexy by itself. Neutrals are my go-to and this light blush color is as much as a neutral as taupe, grey, and white–it works well with everything! As you can tell, I haven’t been able to stop wearing my American Eagle cut-offs (I have two of the same pair); they just work and like I said, they’re my “yoga pants” of the summer. They pair perfectly with any top casual or cute; not to mention  they are just as comfortable as your favorite pair of sweats in the winter. Now, I have to get back to stressing about how all of my clothes are going to fit in our new (somewhat) spacious one bedroom apartment. SOS. HELP.

LIVIN’ IN LINEN

DSC_1651editedDSC_1650editedDSC_1652editedDSC_1666editedDSC_1660editedDSC_1670editedDetails: Pure Jill printed tiered linen dress c/o J.Jill, here | Franco Sarto wedges via Marshall’s, similar here |

Another summer weekend has come and gone and here I am, back at work, waiting for the weekend. Lucky for me, I have off this Friday (happy summer Friday to me!) so I plan to head down to the beach for some quality time with my parents and pup. I’ve been doing a lot of traveling lately and I really haven’t been able to slow down. From a jam-packed house on Fourth of July weekend to a wedding weekend with up north, I can’t say I’ve gotten much sleep. I’ve noticed, that with my lack of well-rested weekends I’ve become a bit more anxiety-ridden when Monday rolls around. I’m trying to figure out a way to minimize my anxiety during the weekend and I realized last night while spending time with a close friend that I have to begin planning some fun activities or yoga sessions after work. Often times, I come home from work and think about work. Yesterday evening was filled with laughs and good food and it has made me calm and relaxed. It’s super easy to let work consume you, it’s where we spend most of our time, but it doesn’t have to be all we think about and I needed to give myself that important reminder. As I begin to pack and look forward to a relaxing weekend, I can assure you I’ll be donning this Pure Jill printed tiered linen dress. It’s cute, comfortable and casual making it perfect for nights spent by the beach. And I wasn’t lying when I said I would be wearing these Franco Sarto wedges non-stop–sorry not sorry. But in all seriousness, as continue on with your work weeks, be sure to take care of yourself. We only have one life and it’s meant to be lived–so enjoy it all and make the best of every moment–it’ll be gone before you know it. And who really wants to reminisce about how much they sat and thought about work?

ALL HAIL THE HOODIE

DSC_1487editedDSC_1479editedDSC_1498editedDSC_1486editedDSC_1518editedDSC_1508editedDSC_1523editedDetails: Tab-sleeve knit hoodie c/o J.Jill, here | American Eagle cut-off denim shorts, similar here |

Have never been more ready for the weekend than I am right now. I legit feel as though I’m living for the weekend lately and I haven’t really had much time to enjoy Boston. I’ve been on-the-go non-stop and I can’t wait for these weekends to slow down so I can enjoy my lifeless beach days again. This weekend, Josh and I are heading up to NH for a wedding and while I’m excited to celebrate the bride and groom, I was hoping for a weekend where I could live in jean shorts and college tees. Fortunately, we will have some time to enjoy the lake and I obviously made sure I packed my favorite denim shorts and this tab-sleeve knit hoodie. It’s one of my favorite hoodies for the summer because it’s not as bulky as your typical sweatshirt and it’s ten times cuter. I also might add that it looks AWESOME with a good tan. I’ve been wearing it for various summer outings, from late night beach walks to casual dinner dates–it’s perfect to fight off a summer chill or to seek refuge from the sun. I think it’s safe to say this is a sure-fire summer staple. Now, excuse me while I get on with my busy weekend!

KICKIN’ IT IN CUT-OFFS

Well, I made it through my first week of work back from vacation and it really wasn’t half bad. I am, however, absolutely ready for a relaxing weekend by the beach and you can bet that I’ll be wearing my favorite cut-off denim shorts (I have two pairs of the same shorts). I honestly haven’t not worn them on a weekend this summer and I might even go back to the outlets while I’m in Westbrook and see if I can snag a THIRD pair, okay no that’s over the top. As you know, I am partial to neutrals so you can imagine that when I came across this sleeveless beige knit I couldn’t help but pile it on to my shopping arm. I’m pretty sure this top might be as much of a summer staple for me as these cutoffs. Now that I have my weekend wear in place, get me to the beach!

ROMPER READY

DSC_0174editedDSC_0156editedDSC_0173editedDSC_0203editedDSC_0193editedDSC_0211editedDetails: Ann Taylor outlet navy and white floral romper, similar here |

It’s officially romper season! Despite what Josh says about rompers, I still can’t resist buying them. It seems like every time I go shopping I end up clutching a new romper. Eventually, I’m going to have to purge some of them (especially the ill-fitted ones), but for now, I plan to romp around all summer in my favorites. Funny enough, this weekend I went outlet shopping and came home with, that’s right, ANOTHER romper. Some rompers I come across are made strictly for weekend fun, but this navy and white floral romper from the Ann Taylor Factory store can be worn at the office (at least mine). It is a modest length and while it is sleeveless, it can be paired beautifully with a bright yellow blazer–adding the perfect pop of color. Since summer is such a crazy busy season, it’s important to have pieces that transition easily from work to play–which has given me even more reason to love this one-piece. It’s funny because a decent amount of the time I do trust Josh’s opinion, but when it comes to rompers there’s just no contest. Happy romping!
