I probably have as many shirt dresses as I have socks. I can never have enough and I like them because not only are they classic, but they can be dressed up or down. This dress from J.Jill is not only on one of my favorite colors, but it’s super style-able. I layered a sweater vest over it and I like it because it breaks up the sometimes overwhelming stripes. Fortunately, there is no more snow in the forecast, so I will be able to style this the way it’s intended to be styled…with sandal wedges–of course! I can’t wait for 70-degree weather next week, I’m currently dusting off my shirtdresses and sleeveless tops.

OFF-THE-SHOULDER OBSESSION CONTINUES

The Weather Man was wrong once again. Yesterday ended up being a perfect day spent with family and friends, closing out an amazing summer. As I was packing for the long weekend, I was sure to include sweatpants and jeans, but to my surprise, I ended up donning shorts and this off-the-shoulder blue and white striped top. I was even a little too warm in this! Who would’ve thought? This summer, I slowly created a collection of the off the shoulder pieces. From tops to rompers and everything in between, if there are no shoulders–I want it.  Typically, I hit the outlets for the Labor Day sales, but unfortunately, I’m not going to make it there this weekend. I did, however, purchase a couch. It’s just that, the Labor Day sale for a couch doesn’t feel as good as it does when I’m walking out of Banana Republic with 15 items all at 40-50% off (sigh). Today will consist of some more apartment shopping and a quick drive back up to Boston. Wish me luck! Oh, and for those hitting the shops, score something big for me!

VENT SESH + SCARVES & STRIPES

DSC_0595DSC_0624DSC_0626 newDSC_0665DSC_0656Details: Zara camel and grey oversized scarf, similar here | Marshall’s oversized striped blouse, similar here |

I don’t know what’s going on in the universe this week, but it’s only Tuesday and I feel like I need this week to be over. I’m generally not so anxious for time to fly, and I really try to live in the moment and stay positive but my patience is being tested this week. I have no internet or cable in my apartment, AND my entire computer crashed. I’m not even sure it can be revived. Has anyone ever heard of the white screen of death? Listen, I know that worse things can happen, so I’m not hear to complain but sometimes I just need a mini vent sesh.  The cold weather isn’t really helping my mood; it’s so bitter and miserable out! And I feel like my blogging has taken a back seat this month because I can’t seem to gather my thoughts and/or clothes to prepare posts. As a result, my style has been a bit more casual during these frigid months. However, did stop by Marshall’s a couple weeks ago and came across this ultra soft grey and white striped blouse. It’s a size large, but I couldn’t resist its silkiness and had to see if I could make it work. I think I did okay if I do say so myself. I’m partial to oversized garments this season; they feel so effortless. And I admit, I’m a self-proclaimed scarf hoarder and couldn’t pass up Zara’s selection of chunky scarves, specifically this two toned/color block-esque one. As you know, I’m crazy about neutrals so a scarf that incorporates camel and grey…I’m sold. Now I’m ready for the cold….kind of…not really…okay no I’m not.

FITTED KNITS

IMG_9358 editedIMG_9308 editedIMG_9360 editedIMG_9392 editedIMG_9390 editedIMG_9401IMG_9323Details: Textured-stripes pullover c/o J. Jill, here  | Light grey washed denim pants, similar here | d’Orsay flats c/o J. Jill, here |

It’s hard to believe that this is the last week of August, time seriously flies! The typical August weather didn’t fail to perform, considering these past couple days have been unmanageably steamy. Today, however is clear and crisp which leads me to believe that fall is on the horizon. I’m not trying to rush the fall season into play or anything, but my cutoffs and flip flops are tired and I’m becoming uninspired with my summer selection. I’ve slowly begun my fall wardrobe search and number one on my list are sweaters; you can never have enough. This J. Jill textured-stripes pullover is unlike my typical fall knits, that are bulky and oversized, however it has quickly become one of my favorites. I absolutely love its fit, I’ve realized with time how important it is to find garments that really fit. I appreciate brands like J. Jill, Banana Republic and Ann Taylor that have wide selections of petite clothing. I’ve always been short and my frame is narrow, so the average sweater always seems to look unattractively oversized, draping down well past my torso. This striped beauty is what a sweater is supposed to look like, it hits right above my hip, and is well fitted in the arms and shoulders. I paired it with my light grey wash denim pants to give it an edgy contrast and concluded the look with my d’Orsay flats also c/o J. Jill, which are the most COMFORTABLE flats I’ve ever worn. They come in a variety of colors, giving you the option to mix it up! So when you begin your fall shopping, you don’t have to steer away from the bulky oversized goodness of some sweaters, but keep in mind it’s important to have a selection of pullovers that ACTUALLY fit you well, making your weekend date nights manageable, yet cute in the cold months ahead (omg did I just say that….) Okay forget fall, just go outside and lay in the sun now!!!

WEEKEND WEAR

DSC_0968 editedDSC_0973 editedDSC_0976 editedDSC_0972 editedDSC_0993DSC_0988 editedDetails: J. Jill textured-stripe linen shirt c/o, here  | Garage Clothing boyfriend jeans, here  | Pure Jill d’Orsay flats c/o J. Jill, here |

Lately, I’ve been taking full advantage of the leisure that comes with weekends and have been adjusting my weekend style for the better. Instead of getting hung up on the ‘perfect’ outfit, I’ve been wearing  what feels right. My Garage Clothing boyfriend jeans have become my yoga pants’ replacement (yes, I said yoga pants!) they are just as comfortable and there’s no judgement passed. As you can tell,  I’ve been all about linen this summer—it’s light, easy and effortless. In fact, my striped J.Jill linen shirt has been serving as my summer “overcoat”, I’ve been pairing it over everything from a simple tee to my bathing suit. The neutral grey and white stripes help highlight the fun subtle colors of red, yellow and soft pink, making it a definitive summer staple.

SUMMER STAPLE

DSC_0537 editedDSC_0552 editedDSC_0539 editedDSC_0591 editedDSC_0599DSC_0585 editedDetails: Navy striped tunic/yellow piping THML Clothing c/o, here | Banana Republic white cropped pants, here | Lulu’s espadrille wedges, here |

Lately my weekends have been spent in a bathing suit, and when I’m not poolside, I’m gearing up for summer parties. I decided it was only necessary to create a go-to summer look.  After sifting through tons of sundresses and even more tunics, I’ve found my main squeeze with this navy striped THML top. The  bright yellow accents are my favorite aspect—it breaks up the classic blue and white combo, giving it an edge. Paired with white denim or over a bathing suit, it’s effortless and casual making it the ideal summer look.

LIGHTEN UP

IMG_6616 (1) editedIMG_6658 editedIMG_6662 editedIMG_6650 editedIMG_6642 editedIMG_6679 editedDetails: Airism striped lounge dress c/o UNIQLO, here  similar here and here | BCBGMAXAZRIA taupe pumps, similar here | silver tiered statement necklace, (locally bought) Ladyfingers Boutique  similar, here |

The weekend is my favorite excuse to eat what I want, and while those frappucinos and waffle fries are TOTALLY worth it, the Monday morning bloat is not. I mean, Mondays are hard enough, so I decided to embrace the bloat while still looking cute, in this Airism striped lounge dress. It’s as comfy as a night shirt, but it’s just as feminine as a sundress. City summers are hot, sticky and quite truthfully disgusting, having a a light loose fitting dress is ideal. UNIQLO’s Airism line is equipped with DRY technology plus anti-odor and anti-microbial features that are designed to keep you fresh, dry and comfortable—can you say PERFECTION!? It’s absolutely necessary  to stock up on some Airism camis and dresses this summer, if this weekend’s weather is any indication of the summer we’re going to have you’ll be so glad you did.
