ACTUAL OOTD…FOR REAL

Details: Top Shop red Wrap Waist top via Nordstrom, here | Dark wash Gap jeans, similar here | Charming Charlie yellow floral earrings, similar here | Tommy Hilfiger via DSW taupe suede ‘Venture’ pumps, here |

Guys, Happy Valentine’s Day! Hoping you took my advice from Monday’s post and have decided to spread some love this month, week or day :). While I’m TOTALLY into wearing heart/V-Day inspired clothing, I decided to tap my sophisticated side and wear this classic red wrap waist top and my favorite jegging jeans (yes jegging jeans from GAP…sue me!) to my Valentine’s Day date tonight. I love this top. You can’t see, but it ties in the back, making the front as fitted as you’d like with some flattering ruching. I love the orange undertones in this red color and how nicely it falls above my jeans. Because I was feeling even MORE color, I popped on these yellow floral earrings and added some beach waves to my locks. Instantly, I felt like I was owning the Valentine’s Day game…sexy red dresses are overrated. Because this look is all about color, I slid on my new taupe suede block heel pumps and voila! Cute comfort at its finest.

Now, if you don’t have a date or you aren’t going out with your Galentines, make sure you spread some love to the ones you care about and then get into something cozy, put on your best face mask and tune in to your favorite shows. You deserve some self-love and relaxation, today and every day!

RED RESET

image1DSC_0613 editedDSC_0608 editedDSC_0659 editedDSC_0651 editedDSC_0630 editedDSC_0650 editedDSC_0675 editedDSC_0683 editedDetails: J. Jill red hooded wool blend coat, here | J. Crew Factory plaid scarf, here | Gap high waisted jeans, similar here | Lulu’s wedges, similar here |

I know I’ve kinda been M.I.A lately, but there’s been a lot going and some family matters I had to take care of. Last Friday, my grandma passed away, and while she was ready to be reunited with grandpa I don’t think it’s something my family could ever be ‘prepared’ for. While being surrounded by family these past couple days, swapping grandma stories and laughing over times spent together, I realized how ‘good’ it made me feel. I didn’t look at my phone, I wasn’t concerned about Instagram, my email took a backseat and it felt good. You know, the kind of good that a bike ride around town feels. I was reminded how good it felt to just be with people, face to face, talking, being—I miss that. It’s so easy to become consumed with technology and you become accustomed to making ‘connections’ from behind a screen. Although these past couple days have been draining and exhausting, I feel rejuvenated and calm. I haven’t laughed or cried so hard in a long time, and doing so with my family was the ‘reset’ button I needed.

On to today’s outfit: This J. Jill red hooded wool blend coat is nothing short of AMAZING. When it comes to coats, I typically stick with neutrals, but I wanted to incorporate a strong pop of color in my outerwear this season. This is true holiday red does just that, adding a strong element of color to my typically neutral uniform. As you know, I’m a sucker for plaid and recently got my hands on this J.Crew navy, white, and red plaid scarf. It’s the perfect winter accessory, and even if you’re not into plaid it’s always good to have a piece on hand.

SPRING BRIGHTS

We’re on day three of warmer weather and I couldn’t be happier. Getting out of work with the sun shining and not having to mummify myself in layers has been pure bliss. While my go to work wear palette typically consists of varying shades of black, I decided it was time to pull out my spring brights. My latest spring purchase is this red/coral crepe jacket from ZARA, I love its vibrant shade because it has the ability to bring any ensemble to life. I paired it with this (also newly purchased) round neck navy and white checked top also from ZARA. I feel like this outfit resembles a picnic, that was unintentional of course, but it’s definitely a good start for spring.

Anyone wanna go on a picnic?

SUPERMAN’S STOLEN CAPE

Guys, I stole Superman’s cape…ok ok of course I didn’t! But often times my boyfriend describes certain outfits of mine as characters. For instance, when I was wearing a long bohemian summer dress he described me as a disciple of Jesus, or that time I wore a wide sleeved white dress and I reminded him of a character from Emperor’s New Groove. LOL listen, I don’t take any offense, no cruel intentions here,  in fact I find it pretty funny. Some guys just don’t understand certain fashion trends and if it helps him to relate my outfits to certain characters, well that’s perfectly OK. So when I was working on this post I thought “what would Josh think”. Initially I assumed he would say I looked like Little Red Riding Hood until I asked, and to my surprise he said I looked like a strawberry… WELL strawberries are cute! HAHHA, it’s fun to laugh at yourself. Don’t get me wrong, this look is one I love and its simplicity makes it an easy favorite. I layered it over a fitted navy turtleneck with gold button details on the sleeves that add an element of luxury. Plus, it transitions seamlessly from day to night; once the cape comes off it becomes a sleek casual evening look, with the cape it’s fun and charismatic–BEST OF BOTH WORLDS.

I think I learned something from Josh, it’s actually fun to identify with different characters. Next time I wear this cape I’ll be channeling Superman…or a strawberry?
