The holidays are over and like most, I’m struggling to get back into a routine and am absolutely DREADING Monday. I spent the holidays at home in New Jersey and had a wonderful time surrounded by my amazing family and delicious food. It’s funny because the whole time I was home I found myself complaining about how cold it was when in reality it only felt so cold because we’ve been experiencing abnormally warm winter days. I found immediate comfort in my oversized blanket poncho and not only did it keep me warm and cozy, but it hid my holiday bloat.  I even decided to  give my black and denim pants a rest and threw on my navy high-waisted shorts. Ok, well If I’m being honest, the main reason I decided to don some shorts was because I wanted to show off my brand new black suede over-the-knee boots. They are my favorite present from Santa this Christmas and I’ve been wearing them with EVERYTHING. At first, I was concerned about over the knee suede boots being too tight around the calves, but these fit perfectly and even have a little stretch in them. I think as long as I have an oversized blanket wrapped around me and get to spend time with family, this winter won’t be so bad.

PASS ME MY PONCHO

It’s poncho season, and I feel like every year I purchase a handful of new ponchos that I can never part with, and then ultimately end up with more ponchos than my closet can handle. It’s an odd obsession, but they’r so hard to resist! It’s like wearing a blanket all day long, while still looking cute— I mean how much cozier can you get?! This J. Jill striped poncho is definitely the most luxurious one I own. Its dark charcoal and heather color combo and chunky stripes make it a poncho to be reckoned with. Easy to wear and pair– a comfortably classic look for fall. The front pockets remind me of my treasured old school hoodies, keeps your hands warm without having layer on a coat. It looks just as cute with a white oxford underneath as it does with a simple long sleeve–there’s no wrong way to wear it. So, if you haven’t started getting your poncho act together, I suggest you start now by heading over to J.Jill; I promise that there isn’t one poncho you won’t fall in love with.

SUPERMAN’S STOLEN CAPE

Guys, I stole Superman’s cape…ok ok of course I didn’t! But often times my boyfriend describes certain outfits of mine as characters. For instance, when I was wearing a long bohemian summer dress he described me as a disciple of Jesus, or that time I wore a wide sleeved white dress and I reminded him of a character from Emperor’s New Groove. LOL listen, I don’t take any offense, no cruel intentions here,  in fact I find it pretty funny. Some guys just don’t understand certain fashion trends and if it helps him to relate my outfits to certain characters, well that’s perfectly OK. So when I was working on this post I thought “what would Josh think”. Initially I assumed he would say I looked like Little Red Riding Hood until I asked, and to my surprise he said I looked like a strawberry… WELL strawberries are cute! HAHHA, it’s fun to laugh at yourself. Don’t get me wrong, this look is one I love and its simplicity makes it an easy favorite. I layered it over a fitted navy turtleneck with gold button details on the sleeves that add an element of luxury. Plus, it transitions seamlessly from day to night; once the cape comes off it becomes a sleek casual evening look, with the cape it’s fun and charismatic–BEST OF BOTH WORLDS.

I think I learned something from Josh, it’s actually fun to identify with different characters. Next time I wear this cape I’ll be channeling Superman…or a strawberry?
