#SHOPPRU’S FALL FASHION EVENT

Details: LOFT skinny ankle pants in Marisa fit, here |  ZARA leather moto jacket, similar here | Photos by Jon Salas

So I’ve realized that I have a bit of a shopping problem. What can I say? I like clothes and the trends are changing, so a girl has to keep up, right!? When I lived at home in New Jersey there were three malls all within 20 minutes of my parents’ home–that’s just how Jersey works. I would make a weekend of mall-surfing; floating from mall to mall until I would find just what I “needed.” I know that I have to reign in my shopping habits, but I did clean out my closet this weekend so we’re making some progress, little progress, but progress nonetheless. Since living in Boston I’ve gone just about everywhere to fill my fashion fix, but The Shops at Pru has been my number one go-to. It has everything I could possibly need. From Ann Taylor to Club Monaco–they have everything! Not to mention, when I moved from NYC, I was bummed that I would no longer be able to meander around Eataly in Flatiron, BUT recently the Pru opened an Eataly, and I’m no longer without fresh pasta and biscotti.

If you’re like me and have already purged your closet to make room for fall favorites and trends, then I suggest you come to #ShopPru’s Fall Shopping event on Thursday, September 28 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The first 100 guests to arrive will receive a SWAG bag, there will be a prosecco bar provided by Eataly, mini makeovers from Sephora and more fun activations by a number of amazing brands! I’m going to scope out some more fall fashions…even though I should really quit while I’m ahead. I’m also planning on grabbing a bite to eat the new Earl’s Kitchen that just opened; will let you know how it is! Hope to see you there :).

Happy fall fashion shopping!

SUMMER —> FALL

Details: Pure Jill Luxe Tencel Mock-Neck Maxi Dress c/o J.Jill, here

This weekend we experienced a preview of fall weather. The air was crisp, the Halloween decorations were stocked on the shelves at Homegoods and…you guessed it… Starbucks was pushing its pumpkin spice latte–gotta love fall. So instead of donning my bathing suit and basking in the sun, I was layering my summer basics and contemplating bringing out my UGGs. Relax, guys, it didn’t happen. I did, however, begin to rethink my wardrobe and started to eye some pieces that I was ready to purge or tuck away until next summer. In doing so, I came across this mock-neck maxi from J.Jill. It was from their spring collection, I think I received it around March? I’m not exactly sure, but I know that when I received it, I was trying to think of a way to style it sleeveless without freezing my butt off. Needless to say, it didn’t happen. But I realized that NOW is the perfect time to slip it on. Since I’ve been relentlessly working on my tan, the neutral heather-taupe color is flattering and while it does have a mock-neck (which I LOVE), it’s still fairly lightweight. I am absolutely in love with it. It’s like I’m seeing it for the first time. Isn’t it strange how we look at clothes differently during different seasons? I don’t know that I would wear this at palest (Dec-April), but it’s the ideal dress to transition from summer to fall. And it can be worn casual with flip flops and minimal jewelry or dressed up with a sexy wedge and bold earrings. Now start digging through your closet to find some hidden gems. You may be surprised to find something you wouldn’t have deemed appropriate for the current season.

SUMMER COMFORT: THE MAXI SKIRT

Details: Printed Easy Knit Maxi Skirt c/o J.Jill, here |

It’s maxi skirt season! I’ve been on vacation this week and I’ve never felt more relaxed. I went on a bit of a staycation and ventured to my family’s beach house on the Long Island Sound in Connecticut. My days have been spent basking in the sun from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. reading and relaxing. I feel so refreshed and the first time I put on my makeup was yesterday and it felt so foreign to me. I can’t say that my style has been on point this week because it’s been driven by comfort and I have NO problems with that. However, I’m planning on going out to dinner tonight and the closest thing to acceptable comfort is this colorful printed maxi from J.Jill. It’s super comfortable and looks good with a variety of colors: white, black, navy, purple and even turquoise. It’s flowy and because it’s available in petite it isn’t too long like most maxis are on me. I’m hanging on to these last few days of vacation and am planning on more sun, one more book and my favorite bathing suit. What are your plans for the weekend?

VACATION MODE: SLEEP. BEACH. REPEAT.

Details: Floral drawstring shorts from TJ Maxx, similar here |

I am SO excited to go on a little stay-cation. Next week, I’m heading to my family’s beach house on the Long Island Sound in CT. I’m way overdue for a vacation and am super excited to have no plans, wear these comfy drawstring shorts every day and lay peacefully in the sand. It’s so funny because the past two years, we’ve gone on a fun tropical vacation and don’t get me wrong, that’s always a fun time, but I like the idea of really having no plans. I spend every day organizing and managing my workload, that I’m just excited to not know what I’m doing and not following agenda or a “To Do” list. Aside from shooting some new looks for the blog, I fully intend on living in my bathing suit, cover-up and these comfortable and socially acceptable floral drawstring shorts. I wish I had purchased another pair because they’re just too cute, but I guess I can swap back forth between cover-ups and oversized tees. I’m also excited to eat home cooked food that I don’t necessarily have to purchase OR cook–whoa! What does your ideal summer vacation look like?

SUMMER UNIFORM

Details: Marshalls Printed Cover-up dress, similar here, here and here | Dansko Demetra Sandal in Taupe, here |

Summertime and the living is easy–am I right? I’m so excited for beach days and minimal thought into clothing. Don’t get me wrong, I love putting together outfits and wearing “thoughtful” looks, but there’s nothing better than wearing a bathing suit and lightweight cover-up. I went to Marshalls with the sole intent of buying photo frames for my desk at work; obviously, that didn’t work out because this blue beauty caught my eye. I really love this cover-up because I fully intend on wearing it as a dress as well. It’s modest enough to wear out to dinner, but it’s loose and lightweight enough to face the summer heat on the beach. The only thing is, I would have to wear shorts and perhaps a cami underneath since it’s a little transparent. This weekend is supposed to be hot and humid so you can be sure that this is exactly what I’ll be sporting! What are your plans to beat the heat this weekend!?

P.S. I know how frustrating it is to see something from Marshalls and not be able to purchase it, but I did my best to try and find some similar options for you guys.
