2019: CAR COATS + A SUGAR DETOX

Going back to work after 10-14 days off feels like an actual slap in the face. I don’t even know how to function normally. I don’t often sleep in, but over break, I slept well until 8:30-9a.m., and now I’m afraid I won’t be able to make my usual 6:15 a.m. wake up call. Someone help! Not to mention, the weather is expected to get a little chillier these next couple weeks, and I’m far from prepared for that. And while my typical OOTD on vacation consisted of leggings, no makeup, and a chunky sweater, I did try to spruce it up a bit, in an effort to feel more productive. One of my coziest and most put-together staples is this reversible camel and grey wool car coat. It IS everything. It’s not stiff or overbearingly heavy like your average wool coat. Instead, it is more like a more substantial cardigan with pockets and a more esteemed collar. It’s light enough to layer with chunky turtlenecks, sweaters, and the perfect flowy button-up like the one styled. Lately, I’ve been resorting to these suede block heels, but I recently purchased some low, neutral suede booties that will look equally as good, but a little more casual.

I’m thinking my first day back to the office tomorrow will consist of my stretchiest most acceptable pants, a loose tee, and the chunkiest/coziest knit I could find. Sounds good, right? Wish me luck as I head back to work, detox from sugar and try not to drink more than three cups of coffee in the first two hours of work.

Cheers to 2019! I haven’t made any resolutions yet. Thinking of setting some goals, though. TBD!

FALL FASHION TIP: GO BOLD

Details: Banana Republic floral strappy midi slip dress, here | Photos by Jon Salas

Everywhere I look there’s pumpkin spice this and salted caramel that. I think we all jumped the gun on whipping out the fall scented candles and fitted knits, myself included. Especially considering we’ll be experiencing 80-degree temps this week. While there have been SOME breezy days, there definitely haven’t been enough to be convinced that fall is here to stay. Despite this un-fall like weather, I’ve been stopping by all of my favorite brands and have begun planning my fall closet and pinpointing my fall necessities. It’s true, my typical fall must-haves would include a neutral colored chunky knit, some booties and a long sleeve fitted tee, but with the weather being so fickle, I haven’t stopped getting my hands on sleek strappy dresses. This floral midi dress makes me feel sexy and sophisticated at the same time. It’s effortless and as soon as you slip it on you feel as though you deserve to be strolling the small streets of Venice or sipping on some prosecco outside of a Parisian cafe. I’m serious, it has that effect. It’s bold and vibrant, and it’s so easy to have a closet full of three different shades of taupe and endless black knits and booties. However, I love wearing and playing with colors, especially ones as bold as this. AND if this dress is too colorful for you, it’s available in grey with blue and white flowers–super pretty as well! While I won’t be wearing this dress to work, it’s definitely one I will wear on a date night a drape over solid color scarf/pashmina because anything heavier or bulkier will distract from the beauty and flawlessness of the dress. Don’t be afraid to be bold with color this season and add something to your wardrobe that is a bit outside of your comfort zone, you’ll be surprised at how good you’ll feel and look–trust me!

Banana Republic sent me this dress in exchange for writing a review on my blog. Although this post is sponsored, all opinions are my own.

SUMMER —> FALL

Details: Pure Jill Luxe Tencel Mock-Neck Maxi Dress c/o J.Jill, here

This weekend we experienced a preview of fall weather. The air was crisp, the Halloween decorations were stocked on the shelves at Homegoods and…you guessed it… Starbucks was pushing its pumpkin spice latte–gotta love fall. So instead of donning my bathing suit and basking in the sun, I was layering my summer basics and contemplating bringing out my UGGs. Relax, guys, it didn’t happen. I did, however, begin to rethink my wardrobe and started to eye some pieces that I was ready to purge or tuck away until next summer. In doing so, I came across this mock-neck maxi from J.Jill. It was from their spring collection, I think I received it around March? I’m not exactly sure, but I know that when I received it, I was trying to think of a way to style it sleeveless without freezing my butt off. Needless to say, it didn’t happen. But I realized that NOW is the perfect time to slip it on. Since I’ve been relentlessly working on my tan, the neutral heather-taupe color is flattering and while it does have a mock-neck (which I LOVE), it’s still fairly lightweight. I am absolutely in love with it. It’s like I’m seeing it for the first time. Isn’t it strange how we look at clothes differently during different seasons? I don’t know that I would wear this at palest (Dec-April), but it’s the ideal dress to transition from summer to fall. And it can be worn casual with flip flops and minimal jewelry or dressed up with a sexy wedge and bold earrings. Now start digging through your closet to find some hidden gems. You may be surprised to find something you wouldn’t have deemed appropriate for the current season.
