2019: CAR COATS + A SUGAR DETOX

Going back to work after 10-14 days off feels like an actual slap in the face. I don’t even know how to function normally. I don’t often sleep in, but over break, I slept well until 8:30-9a.m., and now I’m afraid I won’t be able to make my usual 6:15 a.m. wake up call. Someone help! Not to mention, the weather is expected to get a little chillier these next couple weeks, and I’m far from prepared for that. And while my typical OOTD on vacation consisted of leggings, no makeup, and a chunky sweater, I did try to spruce it up a bit, in an effort to feel more productive. One of my coziest and most put-together staples is this reversible camel and grey wool car coat. It IS everything. It’s not stiff or overbearingly heavy like your average wool coat. Instead, it is more like a more substantial cardigan with pockets and a more esteemed collar. It’s light enough to layer with chunky turtlenecks, sweaters, and the perfect flowy button-up like the one styled. Lately, I’ve been resorting to these suede block heels, but I recently purchased some low, neutral suede booties that will look equally as good, but a little more casual.

I’m thinking my first day back to the office tomorrow will consist of my stretchiest most acceptable pants, a loose tee, and the chunkiest/coziest knit I could find. Sounds good, right? Wish me luck as I head back to work, detox from sugar and try not to drink more than three cups of coffee in the first two hours of work.

Cheers to 2019! I haven’t made any resolutions yet. Thinking of setting some goals, though. TBD!

COLD WINTER, HOT…PINK

Details: J. Crew Tissue Turtleneck T-Shirt, here | Madewell High- Rise Skinny Jeans in Black Sea, here | Sam Edelman Black Block Heels, similar here

As you probably know by now, I tend to gravitate to neutrals i.e. taupes, brown, beige, ivory etc., especially during the fall and winter months. However, I’ve realized that adding some color to your wardrobe opens the door to new outfit possibilities. I don’t know if it’s just me, but have you noticed the increase in hot pink clothing in your favorite stores lately? I’ve never been a pink person, I mean I love the neutral pinks, but I’ve never gravitated to hot pink clothing. This season, it’s everywhere and I am seriously loving it. I don’t believe I’ll ever go as far as Kameron on Real Housewives of Dallas with her pink sparkle dog food, but I already have several hot pink pieces in my closet, including this ultra comfy and lightweight hot pink turtleneck from J. Crew. The material is very thin and lightweight which is a nice change to my usual chunky knits. And instead of slipping on my usual booties, I decided to bare some foot skin and slid on my favorite pair of black block heels. They are SO comfortable and go with just about everything, including something as casual as these distressed pair of denim.

In terms of what’s going on in my life, I just returned from a work trip to London, and you know all those movies like Love Actually, The Holiday and Peter Rabbit? Yea. It’s exactly like that. I don’t know that there’s anything better than exploring a new city in a different country, no less. More on that later. Stay tuned!

ADDING COLOR TO MY COMFORT ZONE

I always gravitate toward neutrals, especially when it comes to fall pieces. I mean how can you go wrong with a cozy taupe sweater or a gray scarf? Bold colors can be intimidating during the fall months. Tans fade, your complexion becomes milkier; hot pink doesn’t look so cute when you’re resembling Casper. But with recent life changes and risks that have proven to work out in my favor, I decided to give add some bold pieces to my fall wardrobe. This full sleeve red top turned out to be an immediate success. The bold red complements my (slightly) new hair color, and I paired it with my favorite heeled mules. Venturing outside of my comfort zone has not only propelled my growth, but it has also opened my eyes to other and new passions. Whether you wear something you thought you’d never wear, accept a job in a different field or decide to try out a new sport, take a leap outside of your comfort zone and see where it takes you. If it doesn’t work out, at least you can say you tried something new.

NEVER ENOUGH CLOTHES

Details: LOFT Striped Drop Shoulder sweater, here | LOFT leggings in seamed ponte, here

I’m having one of those “I don’t have enough fall clothes moments,” which I know is completely crazy but I just feel like when fall rolls around I never have enough sweaters that I truly love. After cleaning out my closet a couple weeks ago, I really did get rid of a good chunk of clothes and started to narrow down what is worth keeping. It’s super difficult for me to purge clothing because I always think there’s still a chance I could wear something again which is more likely than not, never the case. I kicked off my fall shopping at LOFT and picked up a few must-haves including this super chic striped sweater. I really love the wide sleeves and the high mock neck. I put together an ultra simple look that includes these super comfy black LOFT leggings. I’ve been relying on the same pair of black leggings from J.Crew, but they’ve had their day and now I’m swapping them out for this new crisp black pair. They’re super comfortable and have been my go-to when I’m not in the mood to rock denim.

I’m still working on the perfect fall wardrobe, but until then I will continue to lose some of those not-so-must-haves currently hanging in my closet. Wish me luck!

SPRING WEAR JUMP-START!

Well, we had an unappreciated cold spell last week and I’m hoping for warm weather from here on out. I’ve been stocking up on spring clothes and the day that I wanted to style this asymmetrical t-shirt dress, it was far too cold for bare toes and bare legs, so I went with my OTK boots instead of wedges. I’m most excited for spring weather so that I can wear cute sundresses without having to layer or wear tights. This outfit was a bit out of my comfort zone. I don’t know that I would normally wear a spring dress with OTK boots, but I’m pleasantly surprised with how well it came together. What are you excited to wear once the warm weather stakes its claim?!

GREY, PLAID AND CHECK: I’M SOLD

dsc_0148editeddsc_0145editeddsc_0141editeddsc_0186editedDetails: Contrast Ribbed Trim Check Plaid Sweater c/o SheIn, here |

I know what you’re thinking, another sweater. I can’t help myself! It’s the season for sweaters and I really can’t seem to have enough. I always go for the cardigans, but I rarely find pullover sweater that I really love or have to have. When I saw this one, I knew I had to have it hanging in my closet. I love how it’s short enough to fit just above my pants. Part of the problem I have with pullovers is that they’re often too long and since I’m so short, they stunt my growth. I still feel hazy from my long holiday vacation, and this shoot is rubbing salt in the wound since it was taken while we were visiting Josh’s aunt and uncle in VA. It’s so nice to spend the holidays relaxing and with family and this was one of the outfits I practically lived in. Not only can I wear it with jeans, but it would look just as perfect with a black or gray skirt. I promise I’ll start sharing more clothing, other than cozy sweaters. However, living in Boston, it’s all I can really wear right now. Stay tuned!

FOURTH OF JULY WEEKEND-WEAR

DSC_1575editedDSC_1583editedDSC_1584editedDSC_1576editedDSC_1615editedDSC_1618editedDSC_1621editedDSC_1567editedDetails: Garage Clothing red and white striped racer front/high neck cami, here | American Eagle white denim pants, similar here | Gold flats via Marshall’s, similar here |

I’m so ready for this holiday weekend! I love 4th of July weekend and unlike past years, I won’t be with my family,  instead, I will be down in PA with Josh’s fam. While I really love being at the beach with my family, I’m excited to spend some quality time with those I haven’t seen and I do enjoy lake life every once in a while. Let’s put it this way,  as long as I’m basking the sun or splashing in a body of water, I’m as happy as a clam. Last year, I went bold with my 4th of July look and sported a full-on American flag button down from Urban Western Wear (one that may have been perceived as obnoxious). However, this year, I decided to go with a somewhat subtle look. I recently picked up two of these racer front/ high neck camis and I absolutely love wearing them during these ever-so-frequent hot summer days.  Not only are they  flattering, but you can go braless without any issues. Sans bra is what summer is all about! As you can probably tell,  I’ve fallen in love with American Eagle’s Artist Crop white denim pants. They are the ideal length for my short stature and I love the cut-off fringe at the ankles–super on-trend! I think I may even have to purchase a second pair. Now, let me get back to packing! Enjoy this fabulous weekend with friends, family and hot dogs!

FROM THE BEACH TO THE BAR

I always say that I buy more dresses than I do tops. It’s mainly because I can never find tops that I absolutely LOVE. I always lean toward rompers and dresses because they’re a complete outfit by themselves–no outfit prep necessary. However, I have a couple of J.Jill’s kimonos and absolutely love wearing them, especially in the summer months. They’re light-weight and easy to wear with denim cutoffs and white denim. I especially like this plaid pattern because it adds a fun mix to my growing Pure Jill kimono collection. While in Jamaica, I wanted to bare as much skin as possible to maximize my sun  time, but when I knew I needed a break from the sun I slipped this on over my bathing suit–it makes for the perfect cover-up. Normally, I would wear a white cami under this top, but I recently bought  a couple cute bralettes from Aerie that I was eager to try out. I’m loving the added sex appeal that they give this look. To be honest, at first glance on the hanger, it appears to look baggy and boxy, but it falls perfectly on the body, and by adding a lacy cami or bralette you can achieve just enough sex appeal for a night out on the town.

WINTER-PROOF WEAR

DSC_1256editedDSC_1264editedDSC_1272editedDSC_0013editedDSC_0004 editedDSC_0003editedDSC_0020editedDSC_0017editedDetails: UNIQLO red and blue flannel, here | Gap legging jeans, here | The Original Muck Boot Company Verona leather boots, here |

Fortunately, we’ve been experiencing a mild winter here in Boston and I’ve had absolutely no complaints. During the winter months, I’m notorious for wearing my UGGS into the ground. I’m just not a rain boot/snowboot person; I mean is anyone really a rainboot/snowboot person? What I mean is, I’d much rather have wet feet than wear heinous, uncomfortable, rubber boots. It wasn’t until I started working at my current job that I realized I didn’t have to put my beloved UGGS through hell. These Original Muck Boot Company Verona leather boots have given my unequipped shoes their lives back. They’re easy to pull on, 100% waterproof leather, and they look super cute with a variety of outfits, so as not to sacrifice fashion for function. And while I always resort to a chunky knit when the weather gets frightful,  I decided to give them rest and layered my favorite UNIQLO plaid shirt over a light heather grey sweater. I think I’m ready for a real winter storm now… actually…nope…no…I’m not.

Holiday Dresses PART III

DSC_0014DSC_0983DSC_1015DSC_0013DSC_0053Details: Ku De Ta black lace nude lined dress, similar here | BCBGMAXAZRIA black t-strap heels, similar here |

I seem to be collecting a bunch of holiday dresses lately, and I’m worried I’m going to run out of parties to wear them to. I recently took a trip around my new neighborhood of South Boston and stumbled upon one of the cutest boutiques,  Ku De Ta.  It’s super trendy and they carry a bunch of brand names, including Free People, True Religion, Joe’s Jeans, Alex and Ani and more. This particular dress is by Blu Pepper Clothingand what I love most is its high lace neckline. It adds a strong element of elegance, while its nude lining gives it a touch of sex appeal. Since it’s such a detailed piece, the t-strap heels are all that you need to complete this look. I would probably recommend a pair of sheer tights, however if the weather permits feel free to bare leg it–anything goes with this one! Share with me some of your favorite holiday dresses and local shops you frequent during the holidays.
