NAVY KNITS + CORDS

I don’t really know what’s going on with this weather lately, but my wardrobe is just as confused as I am. One minute I’m coatless and the next I’m bundled up to my eyeballs. Fortunately, it looks like we’re going to have a fairly mild Christmas this year. I’m okay with that because I know these temps won’t last long. Despite the wardrobe confusion, one knit that has remained a constant  is this navy shaker-stitch topper from J.Jill. I especially love its double shawl collar and classic shaker stitching. It’s warm enough to wear without a coat (for now) and easy enough to dress up for special holiday occasions.

BLACK FRIDAY WEAR

Details: Buttoned back pullover in Spruce c/o J. Jill, here | Primark work boots, similar here |

Happy Black Friday! This is the first year I didn’t go Black Friday shopping on Thanksgiving night. I know, I know, Thanksgiving is for family time and not meaningless sales. But to be honest I never went BF shopping for the sales, I went for the experience and thus it became a new Thanksgiving tradition. It’s less stressful when you’re not pining for a product and aren’t involved in the crazy stampede into Target. I have to say, it is prime people watching. Despite all of the craziness, I do plan on taking advantage of some sales today; mostly online, but I’m determined to get my fix of people watching by browsing some of my favorite stores.  And a shopping day calls for a comfortable outfit, which is why I’m wearing my simple crewneck buttoned back pullover, favorite pair of jeans, and these ultra comfy Primark work boots. Seriously, if you’re building out your sweater selection head over to J. Jill, they have a sweater for everyday of the week (I’m serious) and everything is 30% off today, online and in store. On your mark, get set….SHOP!

RED RESET

image1DSC_0613 editedDSC_0608 editedDSC_0659 editedDSC_0651 editedDSC_0630 editedDSC_0650 editedDSC_0675 editedDSC_0683 editedDetails: J. Jill red hooded wool blend coat, here | J. Crew Factory plaid scarf, here | Gap high waisted jeans, similar here | Lulu’s wedges, similar here |

I know I’ve kinda been M.I.A lately, but there’s been a lot going and some family matters I had to take care of. Last Friday, my grandma passed away, and while she was ready to be reunited with grandpa I don’t think it’s something my family could ever be ‘prepared’ for. While being surrounded by family these past couple days, swapping grandma stories and laughing over times spent together, I realized how ‘good’ it made me feel. I didn’t look at my phone, I wasn’t concerned about Instagram, my email took a backseat and it felt good. You know, the kind of good that a bike ride around town feels. I was reminded how good it felt to just be with people, face to face, talking, being—I miss that. It’s so easy to become consumed with technology and you become accustomed to making ‘connections’ from behind a screen. Although these past couple days have been draining and exhausting, I feel rejuvenated and calm. I haven’t laughed or cried so hard in a long time, and doing so with my family was the ‘reset’ button I needed.

On to today’s outfit: This J. Jill red hooded wool blend coat is nothing short of AMAZING. When it comes to coats, I typically stick with neutrals, but I wanted to incorporate a strong pop of color in my outerwear this season. This is true holiday red does just that, adding a strong element of color to my typically neutral uniform. As you know, I’m a sucker for plaid and recently got my hands on this J.Crew navy, white, and red plaid scarf. It’s the perfect winter accessory, and even if you’re not into plaid it’s always good to have a piece on hand.

‘MOODY’ DAY WEAR

DSC_0368 editedDSC_0383 editedDSC_0387 editedDSC_0397 editedDSC_0428 editedDSC_0429 editedDSC_0445 editedDetails: Diagonal-stitch sweater in Barley Heather c/o J. Jill, here | Gap denim jeans, similar here | Chocolate brown leather jacket, similar here | GEE’WAWA for J. Jill chocolate stacked-heel short boots, c/o J. Jill here |

I’m all about neutrals, and this diagonal-stitch sweater in barley heather has been an instant ‘moody’ day go-to for me. You know those days when you’re just not in the mood for anything except Bravo TV and a pint of ice cream? Unfortunately, being an adult comes with responsibilities and there’s no snooze button strong enough to shut down your job, however this cozy knit makes getting dressed for work on a ‘moody’ day much easier. It’s like wearing your favorite quilt. All you have to do is throw on a pair of pants and some booties and you’re ready for the day. Then, after you work you can eat all of the ice cream and watch all the Real Housewives episodes that you want! AND if you’re looking for a good bootie this season, these GEE’WAWA for J. Jill’s chocolate suede booties are a suitable option. The heel is reasonably stacked giving you the support you need while still adding some necessary height.

Don’t worry, once you stock up on quilt-like knits those ‘moody’ days will get easier… I promise!

PASS ME MY PONCHO

LCP2-35 editedLCP2-25 editedLCP2-26 editedLCP2-31 editedLCP2-37 editedDetails: Blanket-striped poncho c/o J. Jill, here | Gap jeans, similar here | Photos by Lindsay Connors Photography |

It’s poncho season, and I feel like every year I purchase a handful of new ponchos that I can never part with, and then ultimately end up with more ponchos than my closet can handle. It’s an odd obsession, but they’r so hard to resist! It’s like wearing a blanket all day long, while still looking cute— I mean how much cozier can you get?! This J. Jill striped poncho is definitely the most luxurious one I own. Its dark charcoal and heather color combo and chunky stripes make it a poncho to be reckoned with. Easy to wear and pair– a comfortably classic look for fall. The front pockets remind me of my treasured old school hoodies, keeps your hands warm without having layer on a coat. It looks just as cute with a white oxford underneath as it does with a simple long sleeve–there’s no wrong way to wear it. So, if you haven’t started getting your poncho act together, I suggest you start now by heading over to J.Jill; I promise that there isn’t one poncho you won’t fall in love with.

A WEEKEND WELL SPENT

DSC_0099 editedDSC_0080 editedDSC_0106 editedDSC_0109 editedDSC_0138 editedDSC_0139 editedDSC_0148 editedDetails: Shaker-stitch topper c/o J. Jill, here| J.Crew plaid button down, similar here | Gap high-rise skinny jeans, similar here | Primark outdoor boots, similar here | Eddie Bauer wool socks, similar here |

I spent this past weekend at home in New Jersey to celebrate my birthday. The weather couldn’t have been more perfect,  I was able to spend some quality time with family and was treated to some pampering. It’s amazing what family time can do, even though I got back late Monday night, I still felt refreshed and recharged on Tuesday morning. While fall has always been a prime season for clothing, it has also become a favorite season of mine because it marks the beginning of a long stretch of full on family time. This weekend, I visited some of the local farms with my sister and then enjoyed a meal at my favorite restaurant with the rest of my family. It’s funny, I realized that when I’m home and going out with family I don’t put as much thought into my clothing. Sometimes that results in the best outfits, and in this case that’s especially true. I was layering like crazy, but the sweater that made its mark was this J. Jill shaker-stitch topper. The deep navy color complemented the classic reds and blues of the plaid button down. Not to mention, my footwear game was especially strong with these  casual ‘hiking’ boots from Primark. I was skeptical at first, considering they were only $30.00, but  their quality outshines some of my more expensive favorites. I may even buy another pair to have on-hand in case I wear them out! And I know how busy life gets, but don’t forget to carve out some time to spend with family. It’s the best kind of medicine and guarantees a ton of laughs and great food!

OUTER & INNER WEAR

I really didn’t anticipate pulling out a coat this early in the game, but if I have to wear one,  I’m happy it’s this quilted one from J. Jill. I do have a short quilted coat that hasn’t been aging well, so when I received this one I was relieved to find that its quality is strong and durable. In fact, this past weekend I could barely take it off. And don’t be fooled by its light weight, I had no problem facing the recent brisk Boston nights with it. Now, I know I’ve mentioned how much I love a good sweater and this tweed cable knit takes the cake. It’s as cozy and warm as a snuggle sesh with my pup and I’m especially partial to its creamy neutral color—easy to pair. Oh! Speaking of pair, these Frye short boots (also sold at J. Jill) are my newest footwear obsession. Their rich brown color gives you the ability to dress them up with a tunic or flowy dress. I think it’s safe to say that I’m officially ready for fall…. and a ton of walks through Boston Common.

KNITWEAR PREP

I think I speak for most fall lovers when I say, that layering and chunky sweaters are the best part of a fall wardrobe. Considering  today marks the first official day of fall, I felt it was only appropriate to share one of my newest fall favorites. With the winters we’ve been experiencing, you can never have too many sweaters. This J. Jill mixed pattern topper is unlike my current knit selection, with its unique pattern mix and varying textures. It’s a perfect combination of marled yarns, herringbone and plaid patterns. OH! and cozy is an understatement, plus this topper is so warm  and not itchy like other heavy knits. Once it becomes weather appropriate I fully intend on pairing it with my black leather  pants and booties. I always feel that there’s a huge rush to jump into fall, and I prematurely start busting out my flannels but I think this week’s weather has proven that fall is actually beginning. With that being said, Happy Fall! (Let’s hold off on winter for as long as possible).

Also, since moving to Boston I happily reconnected with an old friend from college who started her own photography business Lindsay Connor’s Photography, check it out— she’s amazing and so easy and fun to work with!

GLIMPSE OF FALL

IMG_8786 (1) editedIMG_8811 (1) editedIMG_8798 (3) editedIMG_8909 (1) editedIMG_8868 editedDetails: Window pane ankle pants c/o J.Jill, here  | Sleeveless oversized knit Banana Republic top, similar here | Jessica Simpson two toned pumps, similar style here

I know everyone is panicking that summer’s  over but it’s not OFFICIALLY over until September 22nd. We still have time to wear some of our favorite sleeveless tops and maxi dresses. It really doesn’t even feel like September, we’re experiencing another heatwave making it even harder to believe that NYFW is actually here. This will be my first NYFW not in attendance, since it happens to fall in the midst of my big move! It’s definitely bittersweet, but I have so much to think about that I wouldn’t be able to give it my full attention anyway. While I’m hanging on to the last weeks of summer with a death grip on my flip flops and cutoffs, I am excited for fall. I mean I already had my first PSL, aggressive—I know. I’ve slowly been gathering pieces for my fall wardrobe and wanted to share with you a pair of my favorite new pants. These navy windowpane ankle pants from J. Jill will be well worn this season, they’re lightweight and manage to flow easily with a variety of color palettes. I paired them with this oversized sleeveless knit tunic from Banana Republic and my two toned Jessica Simpson pumps. This is sure to be a staple fall outfit. And I still have some summer looks to share with you because I’m in serious denial, but I hope you enjoyed this glimpse of fall!

FITTED KNITS

IMG_9358 editedIMG_9308 editedIMG_9360 editedIMG_9392 editedIMG_9390 editedIMG_9401IMG_9323Details: Textured-stripes pullover c/o J. Jill, here  | Light grey washed denim pants, similar here | d’Orsay flats c/o J. Jill, here |

It’s hard to believe that this is the last week of August, time seriously flies! The typical August weather didn’t fail to perform, considering these past couple days have been unmanageably steamy. Today, however is clear and crisp which leads me to believe that fall is on the horizon. I’m not trying to rush the fall season into play or anything, but my cutoffs and flip flops are tired and I’m becoming uninspired with my summer selection. I’ve slowly begun my fall wardrobe search and number one on my list are sweaters; you can never have enough. This J. Jill textured-stripes pullover is unlike my typical fall knits, that are bulky and oversized, however it has quickly become one of my favorites. I absolutely love its fit, I’ve realized with time how important it is to find garments that really fit. I appreciate brands like J. Jill, Banana Republic and Ann Taylor that have wide selections of petite clothing. I’ve always been short and my frame is narrow, so the average sweater always seems to look unattractively oversized, draping down well past my torso. This striped beauty is what a sweater is supposed to look like, it hits right above my hip, and is well fitted in the arms and shoulders. I paired it with my light grey wash denim pants to give it an edgy contrast and concluded the look with my d’Orsay flats also c/o J. Jill, which are the most COMFORTABLE flats I’ve ever worn. They come in a variety of colors, giving you the option to mix it up! So when you begin your fall shopping, you don’t have to steer away from the bulky oversized goodness of some sweaters, but keep in mind it’s important to have a selection of pullovers that ACTUALLY fit you well, making your weekend date nights manageable, yet cute in the cold months ahead (omg did I just say that….) Okay forget fall, just go outside and lay in the sun now!!!
