THE DRESS FOR WINTER

Details: c/o Banana Republic Fit-and-Flare Dress, here | Nude patent leather pumps, similar here |

Like many, I find it difficult to wear dresses in the winter months. I mean, not only am I as pale a tube of toothpaste, but so many dresses are sleeveless and I don’t really like to layer a cardigan on many dresses, it can look a bit frumpy. Needless to say, I don’t invest in winter dresses unless it makes sense and this baby blue dress is worth the investment. Not only is it super comfortable, the fit is sophisticated and classy AND it has sleeves. When I put this on, I thought: “If Kate Middleton were to come to the U.S. and had to find a last minute dress, this one would be on the top of her list.” It’s elegant and modest with a certain flair. I paired it with my favorite nude pumps, but it could look just as perfect with a colorful or metallic pump or even a sheer pair of tights to protect your legs from the cold. When I’m not cuddled in oversized knits, you’ll find me wearing this perfect-for-winter dress.

A HOLIDAY SEASON MUST-HAVE

Details: Nordstrom/Chelsea28 Off the Shoulder dress, here |

The holiday season is finally here and that means Hallmark Christmas movies, over-eating and festive dresses. I always purchase dresses during this time of year and I constantly tell myself: “I’m going to wear this every year. It’s timeless and so perfect.” But what do I end up doing? Purchasing several new dresses along with new shoes and makeup, only to do it all again next season. I’m aware that it’s an unhealthy vicious cycle, but there are worse things in the world. Anyway, I actually purchased this dress for a September wedding…SEE! More than one use! I love it because it’s laid back with bare shoulders, but it’s formal fit and flare bell sleeves make it sophisticated and irresistibly sweet. Oh, and a side note, two women who attended the same wedding were wearing the same dress, but in black. While I like the black, it just doesn’t do it for me. A dress fit this stunning deserves a vibrant color. Not only is it available in this eye-popping red, but there’s also a stunning emerald green…perfect for this time of year! One thing I was concerned about when I purchased this beauty, was if it would slip on and off my shoulders and make me uncomfortable and frustrated. I can honestly say, I’ve never encountered a more secure off-the-shoulder top or dress, and I’m not kidding. It’s tightly fitted, but not restrictive and it is SO comfortable. I could wave my hands in the air without any pulling, pinning or primping–total perfection!

If you haven’t gotten your holiday outfits already, I highly suggest that you get your hands on this dress! Be bold and go for red or green… or BOTH!

Happy holiday dress shopping! Tell me: what are your favorite holiday season duds?!

ROMPER, ROMPHIM, ROMP-ALL!

Details: TJ Maxx/Marshalls Bell Sleeve Honey Punch Romper, here |

So, the guys are getting on the romper wagon now, huh? I’m completely fine with this, but I will say that everything that guys have said about rompers, like that they hate them because they look like something a toddler would wear or that they’re not flattering on anyone in anyway shape or form and look more creepy than sexy.  After seeing rompers on men, it makes me wonder if they were right all along. I mean not ALL men can pull off a RompHim, and it is somewhat off-putting that they look like hairy adult babies runinng around. But to each his own, right? Despite my growing distaste for the recent RompHim trend, I am certain I will not be ditching my rompers any time soon. In fact, I just scored this bell-sleeve romper from Marshall’s and couldn’t love more if I tried. Unlike most offices, mine doesn’t implement a strict dress code which means rompers are acceptable in the workplace–woohoo!! And the fact that this one has long sleeves makes it even more loveable because it allows me to combat the ice chamber conditions inside the office, while still looking like I’m acknowleding the fact that it’s spring when I walk outside. Its floral pattern is tasteful and broken up by the lace detail in the middle, makes this one of my favorites this season. Cheers to rompers for all,  we’re truly breaking fashion boundaries!

PINK OVERLOAD

DSC_0004 (2)DSC_0008DSC_0040DSC_0043DSC_0057DSC_0059 2DSC_0068Details: Brushed-Twill Hooded jacket c/o J.Jill, here | Superga Carnation-Print Sneakers c/o J.Jill, here | Tri-Pearl Choker and Love Drop necklace c/0 Beadly Designs, here and here  |

Another Valentine’s Day in the books! We didn’t plan anything and ended up going out to dinner, but it was a really great time. We share a lot of laughs and enjoyed some delicious food. It’s funny that I have all of this pink clothing and I didn’t wear ANYTHING pink on Valentine’s Day. To make up for my lack of pink on the pinkest day of the year, I’m sharing a pinked out ensemble. I layered this Brushed-Twill Hooded jacket over a white tee and slipped on some boyfriend jeans and these super vibrant Superga carnation-print sneakers–how fun! I was really excited to style this outfit because it got me in the mood for spring clothing. After this most recent blizzard, I’d be happy if I never saw my snow boots again.  I can’t wait to wear light-weight jackets like this one and not have to wear socks–spring, where are you? I love this jacket because it’s cuter than your typical windbreaker but more casual than a trench. It will be perfect for cool nights walking to yoga and breezy days strolling Castle Island. Now, I don’t feel so bad for not wearing pink on Valentine’s Day. I’ll be sure to wear enough pink for the both of us!

NOT YOUR NEPHEW’S CAPE

DSC_0712editedDSC_0709editedDSC_0708editedDSC_0679editedDSC_0760editedDSC_0762editedDSC_0783editedDetails: Open Front Casual Cape Blazer c/o Rosegal, here | Essential White Shirt c/o J.Jill, here  |

I’ve worn it all! From ponchos to outlandish jumpsuits; every new style trend there is, I’ve tried at least once. Which is why I had to give this black blazer cape a try, especially since it has been flooding my Instagram feed. I’m a big fan of a classic black blazer so this wasn’t too difficult for me to adjust to. However, Josh isn’t a huge fan; he thinks I look like Dracula. And now when I slip this on, that’s all I can think about (eye roll). If this blazer cape didn’t have the pronounced shoulder shape, I don’t think I would like it as much. The sleek shoulder point really gives this blazer a high fashion vibe. Although I decided to pair it with a more casual ensemble, it would look just as perfect layered over a red dress, (Valentine’s Day idea) or any bold color for that matter. Initially, when I was planning to style this outfit I had a black top underneath, but it didn’t give the cape the appropriate air time it deserved. So, I relied on my one of my favorite classics: a white oxford shirt. While I have many white button downs, this one from J.Jill, appropriately named ‘Essential White Shirt’,  is my recent go-to. It fits perfectly and J.Jill offers petite sizing so it’s the perfect length for my torso and arms. Josh’s comments aside, this cape is definitely a keeper and if you haven’t given it a shot, go for it!

COATIGANS & LEATHER

dsc_0677editeddsc_0690editeddsc_0704editeddsc_0708editeddsc_0718editeddsc_0721editeddsc_0725Details: LOFT Plaid Cape Coat, here | Hue black faux leather leggings, here | Gap turtleneck sweater, similar here |

I’ve always shopped at Ann Taylor, but I was never really a fan of the LOFT until I happened to pass by recently and a few things caught my eye. And I was pleasantly surprised to find a ton of cute sweaters, cardigans, and dresses. They even have activewear from Lou & Grey–really cute, and reasonably priced. I wasn’t even in there 5 minutes before I had an arm full of clothing to try on. I was going nuts, and as soon as I laid my eyes on this coatigan (that’s what they call it, a coatigan; clever right?!), I knew I had to have it. It’s perfect, I love the classic check pattern, especially the light gray, black and beige color combination. For the chilly days ahead, layering it over an extra comfy knit is a must, and this oversized turtleneck from GAP is SO comfortable that I have it another a couple different colors (not sorry). I’m also pretty excited that leather legging season is back. I have several pairs of leather leggings, all from different places, but these HUE leggings are by far my favorite. They are perfectly priced, comfortable and not too heavy or warm. Some leather leggings are so uncomfortably hot that it’s difficult to wear them. It finally feels like I can get in full fall/winter wardrobe and now, I can add the LOFT to my list. Sorry bank account!

MY FAVORITE TWOFER

dsc_0593editeddsc_0610editeddsc_0605editeddsc_0647editeddsc_0648editeddsc_0650editeddsc_0655Details: Circle Scarf Open-Neck Cardigan c/o Zaful, here  | Hue black faux leather leggings, here | Black Sperry booties, here |

I know you’re absolutely tired of me talking about my “chunky knits”, but you’re going to have to get used to it. The Boston fall weather is here to stay and I think there may even be a winter chill in the air lately. Fortunately, I haven’t had to pull out my puffer coat yet, but it’s only a matter of time. In high school, I rarely wore sweatshirts, even though I likely had a dozen as mementos from every family vacation. But I love them; they are the comfort food of clothing. And while they aren’t very flattering and don’t necessarily accentuate the features of your top half, the warmth and coziness are undeniable. This open-neck cardigan with circle scarf attached is the answer to my chunky knit dreams. It’s like wearing a blanket and did I mention, the scarf is ATTACHED?! It’s even long enough to wrap twice, but can also be left to lay across your chest. It’s from Zaful and I have to say, Zaful is the place to go to fulfill your fall fashion needs. There are so many sweaters I’m pining for at the moment. Like this one, this one, this one and this one. I can go on, but I’ll let you get some shopping done.

MY GROWN UP HOODIE

DSC_0700 editedDSC_0701 editedDSC_0678 editedDSC_0690 editedDSC_0746 editedDSC_0741 editedDSC_0732 editedDetails: Black and white chevron hoodie c/o J. Jill, here | Dark wash denim pants from Gap, similar here | Superga slip-on sneakers c/o J. Jill, here |

Is it just me or did everyone have a favorite hoodie in high school? I remember mine, it was bright blue from Abercrombie & Fitch and it had the traditional logo in a deeper navy blue. I loved that hoodie, I used to spray it in my favorite perfume when I’d get ready for the first football game of the season. I often think about how the younger Jackie used to dress and I burst out laughing. Today, I would NEVER douse an article of clothing in perfume or wear a tattoo choker necklace—what was I thinking?! While I’ve since retired my Abercrombie & Fitch hoodie, that doesn’t mean I don’t have a selection  in my fall wardrobe. Hoodies are like comfort food, they make you feel good and perhaps sometimes they look too casual, there are ways you can make them appropriate. This black and white chevron hoodie from J. Jill is extremely thick and cozy, and  it’s definitely the most sophisticated hoodie I’ve ever owned. I mean it’s probably not something 15 year old Jackie would wear, but perfect for the here and now. I’m pretty sure this is going to become my favorite adult life hoodie.
