ME & MY CORE COMFORTS

Details: TopShop Rip Elbow Denim Jacket via Nordstrom, here| Aerie Oversized Nomad Pants, here|Converse slip-on sneakers, here |

I love trying out different fashion trends and stocking my closet with clothes, that much you can tell. However, I’ve never been one to sacrifice comfort for fashion. That’s not entirely true. I’ve done that a couple of times, and it’s not worth it. You don’t look cute when you’re uncomfortable. Wobbling around in 6-inch pumps that are cutting into your heels, what’s the point? I always do like to get a couple of garments that are a bit different from the rest of my closet and have that “outshine” factor, but mostly I stick with what’s comfortable and fits well.

I’m not sure what next week looks like, but the mornings have been a bit cooler than usual, and I’m more than okay with that. This weekend looks fairly mild, and today I woke up to crisp cool brink of fall weather…DELIGHTFUL! So, in the spirit of comfort and a new season, I’m sharing one of my favorite outfits. We’ve got, what I like to call, my core comforts: slouchy Nomad pants from Aerie (available in 4 different colors), a sleeveless sweater top, and my oversized denim TopShop jacket…oooh and can’t forget my slip-on converse sneaks! Which way to the apple cider, pumpkin patch, farmers market, (insert most basic fall activity here)?!?

Since comfort and athleisure have become more commonplace and accepted by major retailers, it’s so easy to find clothing that is not only comfy and cozy but looks good too. Take a look at your closet and identify your most comfortable pieces and see how you can elevate them with accessories, a blazer, you name it, it’s possible!

FLIRTY, TWIRLY AND…PLEATED

Details: White Frill Detail Pleated Skater Dress c/o Pretty Little Thing, here| Bleecker & Bond Elise Sandal via DSW, here |

Mother Nature has finally blessed us with some summer days. I didn’t think I’d see the sun after experiencing an entire month of clouds and rain, with only a peek of sun. This weekend, it seems she’s finally cooperating. So, in celebration of the first official weekend of summer, I’ve decided to pull out my summer favorites and show off my fake tan (lol). First up is this romantic and flirtatious white frill skater dress from Pretty Little Thing. It’s an absolute twirl dress with its delicate pleats and ruffle accents. I’m partial to white, especially during the summer months because it goes with everything and it makes your tan pop, even the fake ones. While the white is my favorite, I am considering getting it in red for an upcoming wedding. It’s just such a comfortable dress and I love how feminine and flirty it makes me feel. The front is on the low side so combatted that with a lace bralette. I think it adds to the romance of the dress.

This dress is new to my wardrobe, but I’m thinking this will be perfect for date nights and days where I want to feel a little extra girly.

There’s more where this came from. Stay tuned for more of summer favorites!

NOT YOUR MIDDLE SCHOOL OVERALL DRESS

Details: Ivory Denim Overall Dress via Forever21, here | Franco Sarto Takara Espadrille Wedge Sandals, here | Mustard Cuff-Sleeve Bodysuit via Forever21, here | Top Knot Headband via Primark, similar here|

I have yet to find a dress that I can successfully where while commuting. I’m still not sure how to combat the random subway wind gusts that swoop dresses and skirts up to your back. And you know how some people have commuting shoes, like sneakers or flip flops? That small reprieve before slipping into your pumps and clopping all over the office. Perhaps I could slip on shorts under my dress and just accept the potential stares and puzzled looks. Or do I just wing it and say, “If you see my butt, you see my butt. Keep walking. Move along.” Still unsure how I’ll handle this during the increasingly warm summer months, but as soon as I figure it out, I’ll let you know.

In case it’s not clear, I’ve stocked up on dresses this summer season. Everything from long flowy maxis to short overall dresses like this one, I’ve been a dress fiend. I LOVE this overall dress because its ivory color makes it sophisticated, while its denim fabric makes it flirty and cute. I especially love the light tortoise colored belt and buttons. I decided to try and accent them with a deep mustard bodysuit, but you can definitely style this a multitude of ways with varying colors and patterns. This is certainly a dress I’ll have to be conscious of walking up the subway steps in but I’m certain I’ll find a solution. As for accessories, did you catch my adorable top knot headband?! I can’t believe I found a headband I can semi pull off. I love this because it’s not a full circle headband, it’s a traditional one so it actually stays on my head. I got two of them at Primark and they were $4!! Too cute and this one happens to work PERFECTLY with my outfit.

So, as I continue to figure out how to successfully commute in a dress, I’ll let you know. However, if you have some tips, PLEASE let a girl know. Happy sticky commuter legs season, everyone!

ADDING COLOR TO MY COMFORT ZONE

I always gravitate toward neutrals, especially when it comes to fall pieces. I mean how can you go wrong with a cozy taupe sweater or a gray scarf? Bold colors can be intimidating during the fall months. Tans fade, your complexion becomes milkier; hot pink doesn’t look so cute when you’re resembling Casper. But with recent life changes and risks that have proven to work out in my favor, I decided to give add some bold pieces to my fall wardrobe. This full sleeve red top turned out to be an immediate success. The bold red complements my (slightly) new hair color, and I paired it with my favorite heeled mules. Venturing outside of my comfort zone has not only propelled my growth, but it has also opened my eyes to other and new passions. Whether you wear something you thought you’d never wear, accept a job in a different field or decide to try out a new sport, take a leap outside of your comfort zone and see where it takes you. If it doesn’t work out, at least you can say you tried something new.

JEAN JACKETS ALL SEASON LONG

Details: STS Blue Oversize Boyfriend Jean Jacket via Nordstrom Rack, here | Beige Suede Mules c/o Jjill, similar here

For as long as long as I can remember a denim jacket has always been a wardrobe staple. One of my most memorable denim jackets would have to be my mid-wash Abercrombie and Fitch one. I think I got it in 6th or 7th grade and I wore it through college… I actually still have it and it’s not off-trend. I still love it, but I ended up adding a couple more denim jackets to the mix. One is a more form-fitted stretch denim jacket from Ann Taylor and the other is one I haven’t been able to stop wearing. This STS Blue denim jacket from Nordstrom Rack. I love this one because it is somewhat oversized so I’m able to layer it over chunky knits, which is key for these chillier fall months. I also love its classic blue wash and I’ve been wearing it with black denim, leggings, sweatpants, all my jeans etc. I don’t even care if I look like a walking blueberry–I love it! I’m a HUGE sweatshirt, sweater, chunky knit person, but lately, I love treating this jacket as my go-to sweater/cardigan/etc. You can be sure I’ll be wearing this all fall long until I have to dig up a down puffer coat.

HANGING ON TO HEATWAVES & SLEEVELESS DAYS

Details: Stripe Pattern Jumpsuit from Amazon, here |

The grocery store has Halloween candy, and I swear I can smell pumpkin spice in the air. Listen, I’m all for the fall season; it’s one of my favorites, however, I’m currently focused on this week’s heat wave and how I can optimize my sun time this holiday weekend. We got a late start to the summer and I feel as though we’ve faced way more heatwaves than last year. I’m prepared to make the transition to fall, but I will NOT put away my summer clothes until Mother Nature makes the call. This summer, I ended up purchasing a ton of clothes from Amazon, including this PERFECT neutral stripe jumpsuit. It is so comfortable with its sexy open back and the length is perfect for my short stature. It is also so reasonably priced at $23.99, gotta love that Amazon pricing. The quality is great, but it is a little see-through so I recommend nude undergarments and perhaps a bandeau underneath.

To all my friends hanging on to summer and those already sipping on PSLs, wear what you want, but hold off on sipping on pumpkin flavored anything, okay?

FOCUS ON THE LEMON TOP

Details: Lemon front-tie top via Nordstrom Rack, similar styles below |

Summer is winding down and I’m doing my best to savor every last minute by spending time outside, hitting the beach and wearing as many sleeveless tops as possible. I have a ton of clothes that transition to fall, but this adorable lemon tie-front top is not one of them. So, you’ll absolutely catch me wearing it right up until pumpkin spice lattes are sold at Starbucks. I know I’m going to regret saying this, but I am excited for the fall season. Back to hot coffees, chunky scarves, and booties.

But I’m practicing living in the moment and learning to “Be.” So until I feel the chill air and see the leaves falling, I won’t think about booties and scarves. Instead, I’ll focus on my lemon top and let the sun tan my skin for as long as possible.

THE JUMPSUIT THAT FEELS LIKE FAMILY

Details: Wearever Full-Leg Jumpsuit, c/o J.Jill, here |

Over the weekend, I had the pleasure of attending my cousin’s wedding in Killington, Vermont. It was such a (not to sound cheesy) love-filled weekend. You know when you don’t realize you needed some quality family time until you have the best time with your family and realize it’s exactly what you needed. I left Vermont feeling so loved, and with new hilarious memories to recount with the fam. It reminded me that there are a group of equally quirky, weird, hilarious, loving, beautiful people who love me. It feels so good to have that many people in your corner, and last weekend was a huge reminder of that.

On to the outfit (I promise, it’s related). This ultra-cozy, super flattering and wear-everywhere jumpsuit is EVERYTHING. It’s so comfortable, fits like a glove (available in petite sizing), and makes me feel good about myself. Just like my family. It makes me feel confident and comfortable in my own skin. I haven’t stopped wearing it and it’s so easy to take from day to night. Wear it with a casual pair of platform sandals, or your favorite summer wedges and statement earrings–PERFECTION.

Take away from the blog post: If you’re ever feeling lost, alone or just having a bad day, remember that there are a group of equally weird, hilarious, beautiful people who love you and always will.

A PUNCH OF PINK…GOLD

Details: Lipault Paris Miss Plume XS Backpack, here  | Banana Republic white denim wide leg pants, similar here | Forever 21 sleeveless top (last year), similar here |

The rules of no white after Labor Day are long forgotten and since it’s taking a lot longer for the spring weather to settle in, I decided to pull out my wide leg white denim and take on an all white look. It’s so funny that such a neutral everyday color (lack thereof) used to be such a faux pas. I mean, no one ever says you can’t wear black in the summer. Ivory, egg shell, stark white–they’ve also been kind to me during the summer months. And while you’ll rarely see me accessorizing with a bag or tote (I’m a wallet only kinda girl), I have to say this perfect Pink Gold Lipault Paris Backpack is a summer must-have. It’s small enough not to be cumbersome, but roomy enough to fit everything you need for a day of shopping or on the beach. Gone are the days when pink gold was only worn around your neck or on your ears. The color has become a serious statement in the apparel and accessory industries. And despite what some may think, it has also become quite a neutral for the summer. At one time, metallics and shimmer used to be considered flashy or “over the top”, now they’re just as necessary as your nude pumps or black clutch. Don’t wait around for the weather, just dress like it’s already spring and the sunshine will follow ( I hope)!

POST HOLIDAY REDS

dsc_0818editeddsc_0815-1editeddsc_0829editeddsc_0855editedDetails: Romwe black choker cut out zipper sleeve sweater, here | J.Crew black red check wool skirt (old) similar, here |

After an entire week with family in New Jersey, it really hurts to have to go back to work. It felt so good to be back in my hometown and I hadn’t eaten or slept that well in a while. I love the holidays. I say this every year, but I think I love the days leading up to Christmas more than I like Christmas. Those days are just filled with Christmas music, movies, shopping and nights on the couch enjoying a lit tree. As soon as I got back to Boston, I turned my tree on, flicked on the movie ELF and drank out of my Santa mug. I guess you could say that’s denial at its finest. However, even though the holidays are over, it doesn’t mean you can’t rock that infamous Christmas red. I pulled out my vintage red and check wool skirt from J.Crew and abandoned my usual fitted turtleneck and paired it with this trendy choker cut out zipper sleeve sweater. It’s super cozy and the funky zipper sleeves give this look an edge. I’ll admit, I wasn’t too keen on the choker trend, but after giving this sweater a shot, I think I’m a believer.
