A HOLIDAY SEASON MUST-HAVE

Details: Nordstrom/Chelsea28 Off the Shoulder dress, here |

The holiday season is finally here and that means Hallmark Christmas movies, over-eating and festive dresses. I always purchase dresses during this time of year and I constantly tell myself: “I’m going to wear this every year. It’s timeless and so perfect.” But what do I end up doing? Purchasing several new dresses along with new shoes and makeup, only to do it all again next season. I’m aware that it’s an unhealthy vicious cycle, but there are worse things in the world. Anyway, I actually purchased this dress for a September wedding…SEE! More than one use! I love it because it’s laid back with bare shoulders, but it’s formal fit and flare bell sleeves make it sophisticated and irresistibly sweet. Oh, and a side note, two women who attended the same wedding were wearing the same dress, but in black. While I like the black, it just doesn’t do it for me. A dress fit this stunning deserves a vibrant color. Not only is it available in this eye-popping red, but there’s also a stunning emerald green…perfect for this time of year! One thing I was concerned about when I purchased this beauty, was if it would slip on and off my shoulders and make me uncomfortable and frustrated. I can honestly say, I’ve never encountered a more secure off-the-shoulder top or dress, and I’m not kidding. It’s tightly fitted, but not restrictive and it is SO comfortable. I could wave my hands in the air without any pulling, pinning or primping–total perfection!

If you haven’t gotten your holiday outfits already, I highly suggest that you get your hands on this dress! Be bold and go for red or green… or BOTH!

Happy holiday dress shopping! Tell me: what are your favorite holiday season duds?!

BEST OF BLAZER 2017

Details: Target plaid boyfriend blazer, here | H&M ivory skirt, similar here

I love a good blazer and I’m also partial to oversized garments, so you can imagine how excited I was when I received this grey blazer for my birthday. Whether it’s a pair of boyfriend jeans or a chunky knit, and I can live in it, it has to be mine! When I first styled this blazer I paired it with high waisted black denim pants and a black shirt…super classic and the comfortable option. But when I decided to style it again, I really wanted to be a little less predictable. I slipped on this H&M ivory skirt, the same black top and slid on my OTK black suede boots–can you say perfection? I love the longer length of this blazer because it allows you to pair it with a dress, skirt AND your favorite denim pants. Neutral colors are my thing so the fact that this blazer is black, white and grey makes it easy to pair with a variety of colors. You can go bold with a vibrant red or soft with ivory or black–the options are limitless. Not only does this blazer look great, but it’s super comfortable and almost feels like a cozy cardigan instead of a blazer.

That being said, I think it’s safe to say this will be a timeless staple for many fall/winter seasons to come.

FALL FASHION TIP: GO BOLD

Details: Banana Republic floral strappy midi slip dress, here | Photos by Jon Salas

Everywhere I look there’s pumpkin spice this and salted caramel that. I think we all jumped the gun on whipping out the fall scented candles and fitted knits, myself included. Especially considering we’ll be experiencing 80-degree temps this week. While there have been SOME breezy days, there definitely haven’t been enough to be convinced that fall is here to stay. Despite this un-fall like weather, I’ve been stopping by all of my favorite brands and have begun planning my fall closet and pinpointing my fall necessities. It’s true, my typical fall must-haves would include a neutral colored chunky knit, some booties and a long sleeve fitted tee, but with the weather being so fickle, I haven’t stopped getting my hands on sleek strappy dresses. This floral midi dress makes me feel sexy and sophisticated at the same time. It’s effortless and as soon as you slip it on you feel as though you deserve to be strolling the small streets of Venice or sipping on some prosecco outside of a Parisian cafe. I’m serious, it has that effect. It’s bold and vibrant, and it’s so easy to have a closet full of three different shades of taupe and endless black knits and booties. However, I love wearing and playing with colors, especially ones as bold as this. AND if this dress is too colorful for you, it’s available in grey with blue and white flowers–super pretty as well! While I won’t be wearing this dress to work, it’s definitely one I will wear on a date night a drape over solid color scarf/pashmina because anything heavier or bulkier will distract from the beauty and flawlessness of the dress. Don’t be afraid to be bold with color this season and add something to your wardrobe that is a bit outside of your comfort zone, you’ll be surprised at how good you’ll feel and look–trust me!

Banana Republic sent me this dress in exchange for writing a review on my blog. Although this post is sponsored, all opinions are my own.

COATIGANS & LEATHER

dsc_0677editeddsc_0690editeddsc_0704editeddsc_0708editeddsc_0718editeddsc_0721editeddsc_0725Details: LOFT Plaid Cape Coat, here | Hue black faux leather leggings, here | Gap turtleneck sweater, similar here |

I’ve always shopped at Ann Taylor, but I was never really a fan of the LOFT until I happened to pass by recently and a few things caught my eye. And I was pleasantly surprised to find a ton of cute sweaters, cardigans, and dresses. They even have activewear from Lou & Grey–really cute, and reasonably priced. I wasn’t even in there 5 minutes before I had an arm full of clothing to try on. I was going nuts, and as soon as I laid my eyes on this coatigan (that’s what they call it, a coatigan; clever right?!), I knew I had to have it. It’s perfect, I love the classic check pattern, especially the light gray, black and beige color combination. For the chilly days ahead, layering it over an extra comfy knit is a must, and this oversized turtleneck from GAP is SO comfortable that I have it another a couple different colors (not sorry). I’m also pretty excited that leather legging season is back. I have several pairs of leather leggings, all from different places, but these HUE leggings are by far my favorite. They are perfectly priced, comfortable and not too heavy or warm. Some leather leggings are so uncomfortably hot that it’s difficult to wear them. It finally feels like I can get in full fall/winter wardrobe and now, I can add the LOFT to my list. Sorry bank account!

MY FAVORITE TWOFER

dsc_0593editeddsc_0610editeddsc_0605editeddsc_0647editeddsc_0648editeddsc_0650editeddsc_0655Details: Circle Scarf Open-Neck Cardigan c/o Zaful, here  | Hue black faux leather leggings, here | Black Sperry booties, here |

I know you’re absolutely tired of me talking about my “chunky knits”, but you’re going to have to get used to it. The Boston fall weather is here to stay and I think there may even be a winter chill in the air lately. Fortunately, I haven’t had to pull out my puffer coat yet, but it’s only a matter of time. In high school, I rarely wore sweatshirts, even though I likely had a dozen as mementos from every family vacation. But I love them; they are the comfort food of clothing. And while they aren’t very flattering and don’t necessarily accentuate the features of your top half, the warmth and coziness are undeniable. This open-neck cardigan with circle scarf attached is the answer to my chunky knit dreams. It’s like wearing a blanket and did I mention, the scarf is ATTACHED?! It’s even long enough to wrap twice, but can also be left to lay across your chest. It’s from Zaful and I have to say, Zaful is the place to go to fulfill your fall fashion needs. There are so many sweaters I’m pining for at the moment. Like this one, this one, this one and this one. I can go on, but I’ll let you get some shopping done.

THE GAME-CHANGING DRESS

dsc_0360-1editeddsc_0357editeddsc_0366editeddsc_0399editeddsc_0417editedDetails: Pure Jill Luxe Tencel collection c/o J.Jill, here | Fossil Colorblock Waist Belt, here |

As the fall weather settles in, I’m  gathering my favorite pieces to prepare for the full transition. I’ve always been a fan of turtlenecks. Not only are they cozy and comfortable, but I like how they frame your face. Is that weird? Anyway, to break up wardrobe monotony, I always like to have a few staple dresses on hand for the fall season. Some dresses are more comfortable than others and sometimes it’s difficult to wear a dress when it’s cold out because, let’s face it, that cozy sweater and stretch denim pants feel so much better. And don’t get me started on tights. Recently, I’ve felt like a stuffed sausage in them, not to mention it makes wearing dresses a small task. However, this long sleeve turtleneck dress from J.Jill’s Pure Jill Luxe Tencel collection is the coziest dress you’ll find all season. It’s ultra soft and I cinched the waist a bit with this colorblock belt from Fossil. It breaks up the solid color and adds sophistication to this comfy casual dress. J.Jill’s Pure Jill Luxe Tencel collection consists of a variety of sweaters, pants, tunics and dresses that are all made of an exclusive fabric blend (tencel/poly/spandex), that is fluid and lightweight with an incredible hand feel. Tencel® is a natural botanic fiber, more absorbent than cotton, softer than silk and cooler than linen – because of these properties even those with sensitive skin can wear this fabric with ease. This collection launches this week, on October 20th, so if you’re looking for cozy fall staples just hang on until Thursday and stock up on these comfy garments.

CHUNKY KNIT WEATHER

dsc_0948editeddsc_0984editeddsc_0966editeddsc_0004editeddsc_0007Details: Cupshe ‘Cup of Cozy’ casual sweater, here  |

Every morning this week I’ve woken up to 40-degree weather. Brrr! When I said I want the fall weather I didn’t mean that fall weather. However, after a weekend filled with rain and long lounge sessions, it feels good to wake up to blue crisp skies, hold the crisp. As you know, my fall wardrobe is in limbo right now because much of my clothing is back in New Jersey. Although I’ve slowly been picking up new pieces, and this only means that I’ll have to purge some of my older clothing. It really is time for me to let go of my (past) clothing. And speaking of new, yes, you guessed it! This chunky khaki knit is brand spankin’ new, and if you see me on the weekend there’s a 95-percent chance I’m wearing it all.weekend.long. I’ve been resorting to simple looks lately and I’m starting to realize that less is actually more. This also applies to my ever-growing closet. I’ve been going through some of my clothing lately and am realizing that with many pieces, the quality is lacking and there are way too many one-hit wonders. That is, clothing I wear once and abandon because it’s a fleeting trend that doesn’t last more than a month. Lately, I’ve been styling simple staples and not only have I received various compliments, but I feel and look more sophisticated and mature. I’m 27 years old now. I have to start acting like it (only when I feel like it). In all seriousness, a closet purge is in order for me and if I can give you any advice on how not to let your overwhelming closet filled with one-hit wonders get the best of you, it’s to invest in staples and only staples. You know, those timeless pieces that add sophistication and class to your wardrobe.

NO FUSS NEUTRALS

dsc_0123editeddsc_0242editeddsc_0223editeddsc_0222editeddsc_0177editeddsc_0184editeddsc_0161

Details: Forward-seam shirt, c/o J.Jill, here  | UGG Tomi Sneakers, c/o J.Jill, here |

I’m known to purchase a ton of clothing that looks exactly the same. I can’t help it. I like what I like. Neutrals are my go-to, but every once in a while I’ll add a pop of color to my outfit and I’m often surprised at the positive reaction I get. Don’t get me wrong I love vibrant hues, but I’m a neutral gal at heart and appreciate how easy it is to mix and match neutral pieces. Same goes for shoes. You’ll notice that once I find a pair of shoes I love, I’ll wear them with everything and I mean EVERYTHING. So it’s only fitting that my go-to outfit includes this ultra soft silk forward-seam J.Jill button down and these luxurious, chestnut UGG Tomi Sneakers: two serious staples for the fall season. I absolutely love this top because I can wear it casual with my distressed denim, and not-so-casual with my favorite pencil skirt. As for these UGG sneaks, can you say heaven? They’re unbelievably soft and are a definite upgrade from my over-worn short UGG boots. The weather this morning is certainly more in line with the typical fall season, but we’re expected to reach 8o today, so I may just have to put this outfit on hold.

GREAT LENGTHS

DSC_0313 editedDSC_0336 editedDSC_0338editedDSC_0357 editedDSC_0356 editedDetails: Shirt dress c/o YOINS, here | Primark booties, similar here |

I’m always looking for fall dresses that can add some variety to my wardrobe. Instead of the typical LBD or belted denim jumper, I wanted something that could transition easily from work to play. When I came across this chiffon long shirt dress from YOINS, I was instantly drawn to its neutral hue and sexy slit.  It’s definitely a dress you need a slip with, so I layered it over a fitted ivory tank dress and it worked out relatively well. However, I would try to find a longer, looser slip for future wear because the fitted one kept rising. I know I’m over wearing these Primark wedge booties, but they’re too perfect not to, and while I should be giving my other shoes some love, they’re just too comfortable and perfect to take off. It’s safe to say that everyone has a favorite fall bootie they can’t get enough of, mine’s just more obvious than most. And if you’re in the market for some new fall clothes, I can’t talk enough about how reasonably price and perfect YOINS clothing is, it’s your one stop shop for all of your fall wardrobe needs.

VENT SESH

DSC_0309 editedDSC_0335 editedDSC_0302 editedDSC_0339editedDSC_0340 editedDSC_0349 editedDetails: Banana Republic black blazer, similar here | ZARA faux olive leather pants, similar here | Banana Republic sleeveless turtleneck, similar here | Primark wedge booties, similar here |

Lately, I’ve been super stressed with work. I think that’s standard with a new job, any job for that matter, there are ebbs and flows, learning to work with certain people and trying to fit in all over again. It’s safe to say I was feeling pretty homesick this week and fortunately my parents came to visit this weekend. I was reminded of the instant comfort they emit when they walk in a room; they don’t even need to say anything—they’re like one big ball of home and they’re just what I needed. Needless to say I was a bit emotional  this weekend, but I’m navigating it and the lump in my throat has since ceased. I think that’s where blogging helps, I took some time yesterday to walk around the park near my apartment while shooting, and a couple deep breaths and some fresh fall air really helped my head stop spinning and talked me off the ledge. Sometimes I take life too seriously and when you really step back and take a look at the stressors in your life, it’s almost laughable. Will that deadline really mean anything 10 months from now? I mean really, in the grand scheme of life the things we stress over are unnecessary and it just makes this already challenging journey more difficult. As serious as you take faux leather pants, that’s how you should take life—but really, breathe and take a minute to evaluate what’s important to you.  And while the weather is still amazing, take some time away from your desk and walk outside, acknowledge the foliage, take a deep breath and realize that this is just an ebb you gotta get through, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try to enjoy it.
