ME & MY CORE COMFORTS

Details: TopShop Rip Elbow Denim Jacket via Nordstrom, here| Aerie Oversized Nomad Pants, here|Converse slip-on sneakers, here |

I love trying out different fashion trends and stocking my closet with clothes, that much you can tell. However, I’ve never been one to sacrifice comfort for fashion. That’s not entirely true. I’ve done that a couple of times, and it’s not worth it. You don’t look cute when you’re uncomfortable. Wobbling around in 6-inch pumps that are cutting into your heels, what’s the point? I always do like to get a couple of garments that are a bit different from the rest of my closet and have that “outshine” factor, but mostly I stick with what’s comfortable and fits well.

I’m not sure what next week looks like, but the mornings have been a bit cooler than usual, and I’m more than okay with that. This weekend looks fairly mild, and today I woke up to crisp cool brink of fall weather…DELIGHTFUL! So, in the spirit of comfort and a new season, I’m sharing one of my favorite outfits. We’ve got, what I like to call, my core comforts: slouchy Nomad pants from Aerie (available in 4 different colors), a sleeveless sweater top, and my oversized denim TopShop jacket…oooh and can’t forget my slip-on converse sneaks! Which way to the apple cider, pumpkin patch, farmers market, (insert most basic fall activity here)?!?

Since comfort and athleisure have become more commonplace and accepted by major retailers, it’s so easy to find clothing that is not only comfy and cozy but looks good too. Take a look at your closet and identify your most comfortable pieces and see how you can elevate them with accessories, a blazer, you name it, it’s possible!

ADDING COLOR TO MY COMFORT ZONE

I always gravitate toward neutrals, especially when it comes to fall pieces. I mean how can you go wrong with a cozy taupe sweater or a gray scarf? Bold colors can be intimidating during the fall months. Tans fade, your complexion becomes milkier; hot pink doesn’t look so cute when you’re resembling Casper. But with recent life changes and risks that have proven to work out in my favor, I decided to give add some bold pieces to my fall wardrobe. This full sleeve red top turned out to be an immediate success. The bold red complements my (slightly) new hair color, and I paired it with my favorite heeled mules. Venturing outside of my comfort zone has not only propelled my growth, but it has also opened my eyes to other and new passions. Whether you wear something you thought you’d never wear, accept a job in a different field or decide to try out a new sport, take a leap outside of your comfort zone and see where it takes you. If it doesn’t work out, at least you can say you tried something new.

JEAN JACKETS ALL SEASON LONG

Details: STS Blue Oversize Boyfriend Jean Jacket via Nordstrom Rack, here | Beige Suede Mules c/o Jjill, similar here

For as long as long as I can remember a denim jacket has always been a wardrobe staple. One of my most memorable denim jackets would have to be my mid-wash Abercrombie and Fitch one. I think I got it in 6th or 7th grade and I wore it through college… I actually still have it and it’s not off-trend. I still love it, but I ended up adding a couple more denim jackets to the mix. One is a more form-fitted stretch denim jacket from Ann Taylor and the other is one I haven’t been able to stop wearing. This STS Blue denim jacket from Nordstrom Rack. I love this one because it is somewhat oversized so I’m able to layer it over chunky knits, which is key for these chillier fall months. I also love its classic blue wash and I’ve been wearing it with black denim, leggings, sweatpants, all my jeans etc. I don’t even care if I look like a walking blueberry–I love it! I’m a HUGE sweatshirt, sweater, chunky knit person, but lately, I love treating this jacket as my go-to sweater/cardigan/etc. You can be sure I’ll be wearing this all fall long until I have to dig up a down puffer coat.

BETTY COOPER, HERE

Details: Romwe Pearl Embellished Puff Sleeve Blouse, here | Joyci Diamond Pearl Faux Peter Pan collar, here | Zara pleated white trousers, similar here |

Those who know me well, know my obsession with CW’s Riverdale. Honestly, at first, I refused to watch it because I assumed it would be stupid/cheesy, and it is definitely a little on the cheesy side, but I love the cast and the thriller-ish storyline. It’s a feel-good show with relatable characters and I consider it my guiltiest and almost unhealthiest pleasure. So, last night, for the premiere, I had a few of my friends over to watch and host a Pop’s Diner themed get-together. It included goodies like homemade cheeseburger slider, crockpot mac and cheese, corn dogs and crinkle fries. The food was delicious, and the premiere did not disappoint. My favorite character, Betty Cooper is experiencing some craziness and I can’t wait to see what the next episode holds. I love Betty Cooper’s girl next door demeanor and classic girly style. It’s simple, fresh and classic. One of her classic outfits consists of a pink sweater with a collar, jeans, and white sneakers. Inspired by this, I decided to create an outfit that perhaps the modern day Betty would wear. The pearl top is form fitting and comfortable with puff sleeves, the faux collar is actually a good ole’ fashioned dickey that is secured under your shirt or sweater and over your undergarments. It’s a great way to add some oomph to a simple sweater or top. These trousers are a staple of mine and they’re pretty old from Zara, but they are super comfortable and fit well. Instead of white sneaks, I decided to add some height with these nude suede pumps–voila! I think Betty Cooper would be proud.

And if you don’t like Riverdale and/or haven’t watched it, I’m sorry. But if you’re looking for a good binge-worthy show, I highly recommend it!

THE SEASON FOR CHANGE…AND FANNY PACKS

Details: Relaxed Shirttail Blouse c/o J.Jill, here | Envelope Belt-Bag c/o J.Jill, here | Madewell High-Rise Jeans in Black Sea, here |

So September is over…that lasted all of two minutes. I think it’s because we still had some lingering hot days that it didn’t quite feel like fall. Not only is October the month of my birthday, but it’s also just the BEST month ever! Seriously. Let’s talk about October for a minute. The air gets crisp, leaves are in full fall color, farms are open for pumpkin and apple picking, hot cider and cider doughnuts are within reach–need I say more?! Everything about it is perfect. Another thing about fall is the change that seems to follow me around during these fall months. It’s funny.  Every career/life move I’ve made has either fallen in September or October. And this October, I will be starting a new position at a really cool company in downtown Boston. Those who know me know that change is difficult for me, well it’s difficult for most, but especially for me. The only change I like is the change in seasons, to be honest. What can I say? I’m a creature of habit. However, I’ve been long overdue for some change. In fact, this move has me feeling more inspired and excited than ever. In the past, there were times where I constantly doubted myself or my decision, but that hasn’t happened once in this process. I think it’s safe to say that means it’s the right move. I read a quote the other day that said: “Change happens when the pain of staying the same is greater than the pain of change.” I can really relate to that. For a while, I’ve been feeling complacent and less motivated, and now I have the opportunity to start something new and learn from new people; I am super excited to start this brand new adventure. One chapter closed, on to the next one.

Now, enough about my life changes and more about this simple fall look. When it comes to outfits, I’m the type of person who focuses solely on the entree, and less on the sides. LOL. Does that make sense? I spend most of my energy focusing on the top and bottom and much less on the accessories and shoes. This isn’t the best advice because accessories have the ability to really make or break any outfit, but it’s how I’ve always been. If I find a shoe with a considerable heel that’s comfortable, I’ll wear it until I no longer can. This season, I plan to spend some time channeling my inner accessor-ista (that’s not a word). With that, I have styled my simple rich brown colored blouse with my favorite black denim and my FAVORITE accessory yet: this envelope belt-bag. Or, as I like to call it: a fanny pack. Any accessory that allows me to be handsfree, I’m on board. I actually have several fanny packs, but with funky colors and patterns. This one, I can actually wear to the bar and it will actually complement my outfit. I’ll absolutely be styling this blouse in multiple ways and can’t wait to share some of my fall favorites this season. Happy fall, Y’all! Too much, right?

ANOTHER PULLOVER, ANOTHER FALL SEASON

Details: DAMART button neck jumper (beige), here | American Eagle flannel, similar here |

Fall is the season of pumpkin beer, pretending to understand football and of course… cozy pullovers. I know I sound redundant, but classic cozy knits never go out of style. I mean, I’m way too old to be donning my Alma mater sweats so I have to find the next best thing. From plush fleeces to chunky wool knits, I have them all. But this new knit has become a steady staple in my fall wardrobe and unlike my Polo pullovers, this one is from the land of croissants, art and beauty. That’s right, it’s from one of the most fashion-forward countries, France. The brand is Damart, and while it’s widely known in France for its thermals, it also offers a wide variety of clothing for the fashion-conscious woman. Not to mention, it’s super affordable! Whether you’re shopping for your mom or yourself, you’re bound to find something to help complete your fall/winter wardrobe.

In terms of this outfit, I think it’s pretty safe to say that I’m a fan of neutrals. And while I love wearing shades of ivory and cream, my new winter skin shade of Casper 0001 is not cooperating. In an effort to add some color and warmth I layered this cozy knit over a warm sunset-inspired plaid flannel. It’s definitely an outfit to wear for the Sunday football games you tune out while gorging on nachos, and can even serve as the perfect post-Thanksgiving dinner look.

Happy shopping!

BEST OF BLAZER 2017

Details: Target plaid boyfriend blazer, here | H&M ivory skirt, similar here

I love a good blazer and I’m also partial to oversized garments, so you can imagine how excited I was when I received this grey blazer for my birthday. Whether it’s a pair of boyfriend jeans or a chunky knit, and I can live in it, it has to be mine! When I first styled this blazer I paired it with high waisted black denim pants and a black shirt…super classic and the comfortable option. But when I decided to style it again, I really wanted to be a little less predictable. I slipped on this H&M ivory skirt, the same black top and slid on my OTK black suede boots–can you say perfection? I love the longer length of this blazer because it allows you to pair it with a dress, skirt AND your favorite denim pants. Neutral colors are my thing so the fact that this blazer is black, white and grey makes it easy to pair with a variety of colors. You can go bold with a vibrant red or soft with ivory or black–the options are limitless. Not only does this blazer look great, but it’s super comfortable and almost feels like a cozy cardigan instead of a blazer.

That being said, I think it’s safe to say this will be a timeless staple for many fall/winter seasons to come.

STICK TO THE CLASSICS

Details: (Older) Houndstooth Coat, similar here | American Eagle Plush Sweater, here

I’ve always been a fan of the classics: tweed, herringbone, and houndstooth. Specifically houndstooth. There’s just something about it that brings an outfit to the next level and even though this lightweight houndstooth coat is from last year, it will never go out of style and it looks amazing with this plush mustard color sweater. As you can probably tell, it has the ability to bring the most casual of looks to the next level, but can also be worn just as easily with a classic LBD. I know I’ve been featuring some older pieces, but just like Monday’s cardigan, I found a few styles that are similar and just as perfect. This one from Brooks Brothers is super affordable and has a pop of red on its color–hello fabulous! Other perfect options include this one, this one and DUH this one! Regardless of if you consider your style preppy, minimalist or edgy, you can and will never go wrong with a classic staple like a houndstooth coat. Trust me!!

READY, SET, COAT SEASON!

Details: J.Jill grey ‘Chelsea’ coat, here | French Connection light oatmeal high-neck sweater via Marshall’s, here  |

The time has come for us to fully load our closets with warm knits, wool socks and of course, coats. I have a bit of a problem with all clothes, but coats are my biggest weakness. I can never seem to have enough and one of my latest finds is this dark grey button-front coat ‘Chelsea Coat’ from J.Jill. I really like that it’s an easy coat to layer and work with. What I mean by that is, it’s a coat that has a lot of flexibility, it’s much less stiff, which makes it perfect for crisp fall days like today. I layered it over a super comfy and ultr-soft sweater, which is pretty thick and I still felt free and could move my arms easily. I guess if I could describe this coat in one word it would be: comfort. I feel 100% comfortable and even though it feels lightweight, it keeps you warm. Not to mention, I love a good collar and this one screams sophistication, am I right?!

This will not be the only new coat in my closet this season, but it will absolutely be one of my favorites.

Tell me: what will be your go-to coat this fall!?

LET QUILTED COAT & VEST SEASON BEGIN

Details: Ann Taylor bonfire sweater, here | Quilted down coat in Peat c/o J.Jill, here |

So we’ve had a few true fall days, but it looks like we’re going to be back in the 80-degree weather today. I don’t know about you, but I find it super frustrating planning my outfit in the morning because I’m cold when I wake up and sweating on my lunch break. Despite what we might be experiencing, the season we’re currently in is in fact fall. And that means that we’re in quilted coat season. Every fall I seem to get myself a new quilted coat and this olive green lightweight down coat from J.Jill has become my favorite. It’s super lightweight and breathable so it’s actually easy to wear in this flighty weather. I typically gravitate toward taupe or black, but I’m loving this dark olive green color because it’s neutral yet adds a necessary pop of color. Speaking of color, this Ann Taylor Bonfire sweater is AMAZING. It’s a 70’s throwback (I think LOL). I love the vintage look and the pop of color really brightens up my neutral fall wardrobe. It’s comfortable and fun to layer with a quilted coat, denim jacket or puffer vest–HELL YES!

I think it’s safe to say that my fall closet is starting to come together, we just need Mother Nature to cooperate.
