MY VIA DE’ GINORI DRESS

Details: Terracotta Polka Dot Tea Dress c/o Pretty Little Thing, here | Franco Sarto Takara Espadrille Sandal via DSW, here|

This dress is called the Terracotta Tea dress and while I don’t believe I’ve been to an authentic tea party (at least not in my adult life), I’m not sure I imagine myself in this while sipping tea across from the Queen. When I think Terracotta, I think of the Italian dessert, Panna Cotta. And when I first saw this dress, its name after Terracotta, the clay, I instantly imagined myself wearing it while running errands in the streets of Florence, Italy. I’m not sure why, but I could see myself walking down those quaint Italian streets with fresh mozzarella cheese and a warm loaf of bread. I thought of the apartment on Via de’ Ginori where I lived while studying abroad, and those hellish stairs I used to climb in the scorching summer heat. Sitting in the kitchen with new friends laughing about the day’s events, planning the evening’s and sipping on wine and cheese. Sometimes it hurts how much I miss that place. It was so special and surreal. I love that this dress evokes those memories. It makes it one of my favorites.

Do you have clothing like that? Garments that conjure up memories? Treasure them.

FLIRTY, TWIRLY AND…PLEATED

Details: White Frill Detail Pleated Skater Dress c/o Pretty Little Thing, here| Bleecker & Bond Elise Sandal via DSW, here |

Mother Nature has finally blessed us with some summer days. I didn’t think I’d see the sun after experiencing an entire month of clouds and rain, with only a peek of sun. This weekend, it seems she’s finally cooperating. So, in celebration of the first official weekend of summer, I’ve decided to pull out my summer favorites and show off my fake tan (lol). First up is this romantic and flirtatious white frill skater dress from Pretty Little Thing. It’s an absolute twirl dress with its delicate pleats and ruffle accents. I’m partial to white, especially during the summer months because it goes with everything and it makes your tan pop, even the fake ones. While the white is my favorite, I am considering getting it in red for an upcoming wedding. It’s just such a comfortable dress and I love how feminine and flirty it makes me feel. The front is on the low side so combatted that with a lace bralette. I think it adds to the romance of the dress.

This dress is new to my wardrobe, but I’m thinking this will be perfect for date nights and days where I want to feel a little extra girly.

There’s more where this came from. Stay tuned for more of summer favorites!

NOT YOUR MIDDLE SCHOOL OVERALL DRESS

Details: Ivory Denim Overall Dress via Forever21, here | Franco Sarto Takara Espadrille Wedge Sandals, here | Mustard Cuff-Sleeve Bodysuit via Forever21, here | Top Knot Headband via Primark, similar here|

I have yet to find a dress that I can successfully where while commuting. I’m still not sure how to combat the random subway wind gusts that swoop dresses and skirts up to your back. And you know how some people have commuting shoes, like sneakers or flip flops? That small reprieve before slipping into your pumps and clopping all over the office. Perhaps I could slip on shorts under my dress and just accept the potential stares and puzzled looks. Or do I just wing it and say, “If you see my butt, you see my butt. Keep walking. Move along.” Still unsure how I’ll handle this during the increasingly warm summer months, but as soon as I figure it out, I’ll let you know.

In case it’s not clear, I’ve stocked up on dresses this summer season. Everything from long flowy maxis to short overall dresses like this one, I’ve been a dress fiend. I LOVE this overall dress because its ivory color makes it sophisticated, while its denim fabric makes it flirty and cute. I especially love the light tortoise colored belt and buttons. I decided to try and accent them with a deep mustard bodysuit, but you can definitely style this a multitude of ways with varying colors and patterns. This is certainly a dress I’ll have to be conscious of walking up the subway steps in but I’m certain I’ll find a solution. As for accessories, did you catch my adorable top knot headband?! I can’t believe I found a headband I can semi pull off. I love this because it’s not a full circle headband, it’s a traditional one so it actually stays on my head. I got two of them at Primark and they were $4!! Too cute and this one happens to work PERFECTLY with my outfit.

So, as I continue to figure out how to successfully commute in a dress, I’ll let you know. However, if you have some tips, PLEASE let a girl know. Happy sticky commuter legs season, everyone!

(PRESS) RESET, FOR SUMMER TO BEGIN

Details: Blue Floral Dress via Marshall’s, similar here and here | Franco Sarto Takara Espadrille Wedge Sandal via DSW, here |

The unofficial start to summer was AMAZING. It was a beautiful weekend here in the northeast, with sunshine and blue skies. I spent the weekend at my parents’ beach house in Westbrook, CT where they hosted a Memorial Day picnic for my extended family on Sunday. It’s always a great feeling to reconnect with family, share any new life updates and most of all, laugh. In my opinion, laughter can cure anything. We talked about funny work stories, random embarrassing moments and everything else you share with the ones you hold closest. To me, MDW is a reset. We come out of this cold bitter winter and rainy non-existent spring, and my default we’re feeling moody, bitter and maybe a little bit discouraged. This time to reconnect is such a pleasant and perfect reminder that family is greater than everything. It’s a reminder that you have a small army of people who are ALWAYS in your corner. There’s no greater feeling than that…other than a warm blissful breeze on a sunny day and a full weekend of blue skies. I digress.

In short, I hope you’re feeling as loved and rejuvenated as I do. Take time to reconnect with the ones you love most. Hold them close, tell them an embarrassing story, share your greatest fear, but don’t let anymore time slip. After all, it’s precious.

And as for some summer style tips: Wear what feels comfortable. This breezy blue dress is a little looser fitting than many of my dresses, but it’s super comfortable and its floral pattern is perfect for everything, from a bridal shower to an outdoor shopping outing. This summer, I plan on wearing more dresses. They make me feel good and I always resort to my favorite pair of jeans or shorts. This summer is the summer of dresses. Stay tuned for more of my favorites!

DRESSING FOR SUMMER

Details: V-Neck Red Polka Dot Dress via Amazon, here | Suede Peep-Toe Heeled Mules, similar here |

The weather has finally turned for us here in Boston. Well, that statement is somewhat true. It’s been raining for 90-percent of May, but we’ve had some balmy rainy days and this weekend was BEAUTIFUL. We usually have a summer trip planned, but this summer we’re without one and I’m okay with that. The lack of a summer trip has NOT prevented me from investing a revamped summer wardrobe. Lately, I’ve realized that much of my summer pieces from last summer are still favorites so I haven’t really purchased as much as I usually do, but the summer season is just beginning, there’s still time. Once the warm days hit on a more consistent basis, I plan to pull out my dresses. Dresses in the summer are so easy to style and wear. The only problem I foresee is the freezing office temps we all encounter, but pain is beauty…right? As I was perusing Amazon for some summer sun dresses, I cam across this light-weight long sleeve ruffle dress. I LOVE that it has long flowy sleeves (to combat the freezer-like temps) and its loose-fitting silhouette. It makes it easy to style and wear in an office setting. I had a hard time figuring out which shoes to wear because I wanted to style this with white sneaks, but it didn’t look right. I’m not sure I’ll be able to master the dress with sneakers look but I’ll be sure to get back to you on that. Instead, I went with a nude heeld mule and I think it looks pretty flawless. You could also throw on some espadrilles since that’s what seems to be the shoe of the summer. Also a shoe trend I’m beginning to get behind. Stay tuned. So far my summer closet includes a ton of basics, this perfectly flowing dress, floral patterns and more denim jackets than I know what to do with. Stay tuned!

DRESS OBSESSED

Details: Banana Republic Tweed Stripe Asymmetrical Dress, here |

I have been on such a dress kick lately and it’s great because I’m sunkissed and eager to bear my legs. I recently went outlet shopping and picked up a few perfect summer dresses, but I also did some online shopping and purchased this perfect striped dress. This one is from my Banana Republic and it is available in PETITE. I repeat, IT IS AVAILABLE IN PETITE SIZES. Every time I find a good petite section at a store, I am instantly hooked! It’s so hard being short and wanting to style every dress, but either have to pay as much as the cost of the dress to get it altered or look awkward wearing a maxi dress that wasn’t meant to be a maxi dress. Short people problems! This asymmetrical cut threw me off a little bit because it does fall below the calf, but it looks how it’s supposed to and I love it. It’s a wear to work dress and can even be worn to a more casual summer wedding. I love the tweed fabric and the perfect accent of the bow.

Stay tuned for more dresses! I have a ton to share with you all, short and tall.

GUEST OF THE WEDDING WEAR

Details: Nordstrom Topshop Tie Front Minidress, sold out here, but similar here, here and… this isn’t similar, but I love this | Tommy Hilfiger Zappos suede heels, here |

I had the pleasure of attending a beautiful wedding this weekend and after seeing some of this year’s wedding fashions in person, I got to thinking about what’s appropriate to wear to a wedding. Things have changed, people seem to be less tied to tradition and I believe the rules of what guests can/should wear to a wedding have changed a bit. Listen, I don’t think that people should be attending a wedding dressed in white with a tiara, but do I think you can get away with ivory, floral with white accents and cream colors? Yes, yes I do. Newsflash! There is no possible way you will upstage the bride unless you decide to wear a wedding dress to a wedding that’s not yours, which would be super strange and inappropriate.  Now, just because I think neutral whites are fine to wear to a wedding doesn’t mean others do. I always feel like dressing modestly, but with some sass is the way to go (save your deep v-necks and high slits for a night out with your beau). Which is why I am SO in love with this dress. It has a beautiful modest sleeve and the tie knot in front is surprisingly flattering. The sass factor of this dress is definitely the length. It’s called a mini dress for a reason! I’m only 5’1″ so the length of this dress wasn’t a factor for me, but I do think it could look really short on someone who is 5’5″ and up. To give you some context, when I bent down I felt like a brisk breeze. Unfortunately, this dress is currently sold out, but I did link to some similar styles and I also included a super cute dress that I just happen to love. There is a possibility it will be restocked so stay tuned!

THE DRESS FOR WINTER

Details: c/o Banana Republic Fit-and-Flare Dress, here | Nude patent leather pumps, similar here |

Like many, I find it difficult to wear dresses in the winter months. I mean, not only am I as pale a tube of toothpaste, but so many dresses are sleeveless and I don’t really like to layer a cardigan on many dresses, it can look a bit frumpy. Needless to say, I don’t invest in winter dresses unless it makes sense and this baby blue dress is worth the investment. Not only is it super comfortable, the fit is sophisticated and classy AND it has sleeves. When I put this on, I thought: “If Kate Middleton were to come to the U.S. and had to find a last minute dress, this one would be on the top of her list.” It’s elegant and modest with a certain flair. I paired it with my favorite nude pumps, but it could look just as perfect with a colorful or metallic pump or even a sheer pair of tights to protect your legs from the cold. When I’m not cuddled in oversized knits, you’ll find me wearing this perfect-for-winter dress.

FALL FASHION TIP: GO BOLD

Details: Banana Republic floral strappy midi slip dress, here | Photos by Jon Salas

Everywhere I look there’s pumpkin spice this and salted caramel that. I think we all jumped the gun on whipping out the fall scented candles and fitted knits, myself included. Especially considering we’ll be experiencing 80-degree temps this week. While there have been SOME breezy days, there definitely haven’t been enough to be convinced that fall is here to stay. Despite this un-fall like weather, I’ve been stopping by all of my favorite brands and have begun planning my fall closet and pinpointing my fall necessities. It’s true, my typical fall must-haves would include a neutral colored chunky knit, some booties and a long sleeve fitted tee, but with the weather being so fickle, I haven’t stopped getting my hands on sleek strappy dresses. This floral midi dress makes me feel sexy and sophisticated at the same time. It’s effortless and as soon as you slip it on you feel as though you deserve to be strolling the small streets of Venice or sipping on some prosecco outside of a Parisian cafe. I’m serious, it has that effect. It’s bold and vibrant, and it’s so easy to have a closet full of three different shades of taupe and endless black knits and booties. However, I love wearing and playing with colors, especially ones as bold as this. AND if this dress is too colorful for you, it’s available in grey with blue and white flowers–super pretty as well! While I won’t be wearing this dress to work, it’s definitely one I will wear on a date night a drape over solid color scarf/pashmina because anything heavier or bulkier will distract from the beauty and flawlessness of the dress. Don’t be afraid to be bold with color this season and add something to your wardrobe that is a bit outside of your comfort zone, you’ll be surprised at how good you’ll feel and look–trust me!

Banana Republic sent me this dress in exchange for writing a review on my blog. Although this post is sponsored, all opinions are my own.

A MAXI TO REMEMBER

Details: T.J. MAXX Floral Maxi Dress, similar here |

Maxi dresses are often difficult for me to style because they’re usually way too long, however, I was fortunate to stumble upon this classic black and pale pink floral maxi. I love it because it’s super lightweight with a much shorter slip underneath. It’s perfect for summer bridal or baby showers, or even an afternoon stroll in the city. I love that its sleeves are modest, but its neckline is deep–the perfect combination of sophisticated and sexy. It’s obvious that I love T.J. MAXX and it’s not just because it’s affordable, but I’ve noticed an increase in quality (in my preferred locations) and the amount of on-trend brands and designers have become much easier to come by. I’m seriously loving it! In fact, some of my most talked about pieces this summer have come from T.J. MAXX. I’m looking forward to shopping there for my fall favorites, chunky knits here I come!
