DRESSING FOR SUMMER

Details: V-Neck Red Polka Dot Dress via Amazon, here | Suede Peep-Toe Heeled Mules, similar here |

The weather has finally turned for us here in Boston. Well, that statement is somewhat true. It’s been raining for 90-percent of May, but we’ve had some balmy rainy days and this weekend was BEAUTIFUL. We usually have a summer trip planned, but this summer we’re without one and I’m okay with that. The lack of a summer trip has NOT prevented me from investing a revamped summer wardrobe. Lately, I’ve realized that much of my summer pieces from last summer are still favorites so I haven’t really purchased as much as I usually do, but the summer season is just beginning, there’s still time. Once the warm days hit on a more consistent basis, I plan to pull out my dresses. Dresses in the summer are so easy to style and wear. The only problem I foresee is the freezing office temps we all encounter, but pain is beauty…right? As I was perusing Amazon for some summer sun dresses, I cam across this light-weight long sleeve ruffle dress. I LOVE that it has long flowy sleeves (to combat the freezer-like temps) and its loose-fitting silhouette. It makes it easy to style and wear in an office setting. I had a hard time figuring out which shoes to wear because I wanted to style this with white sneaks, but it didn’t look right. I’m not sure I’ll be able to master the dress with sneakers look but I’ll be sure to get back to you on that. Instead, I went with a nude heeld mule and I think it looks pretty flawless. You could also throw on some espadrilles since that’s what seems to be the shoe of the summer. Also a shoe trend I’m beginning to get behind. Stay tuned. So far my summer closet includes a ton of basics, this perfectly flowing dress, floral patterns and more denim jackets than I know what to do with. Stay tuned!

GUEST OF THE WEDDING WEAR

Details: Nordstrom Topshop Tie Front Minidress, sold out here, but similar here, here and… this isn’t similar, but I love this | Tommy Hilfiger Zappos suede heels, here |

I had the pleasure of attending a beautiful wedding this weekend and after seeing some of this year’s wedding fashions in person, I got to thinking about what’s appropriate to wear to a wedding. Things have changed, people seem to be less tied to tradition and I believe the rules of what guests can/should wear to a wedding have changed a bit. Listen, I don’t think that people should be attending a wedding dressed in white with a tiara, but do I think you can get away with ivory, floral with white accents and cream colors? Yes, yes I do. Newsflash! There is no possible way you will upstage the bride unless you decide to wear a wedding dress to a wedding that’s not yours, which would be super strange and inappropriate.  Now, just because I think neutral whites are fine to wear to a wedding doesn’t mean others do. I always feel like dressing modestly, but with some sass is the way to go (save your deep v-necks and high slits for a night out with your beau). Which is why I am SO in love with this dress. It has a beautiful modest sleeve and the tie knot in front is surprisingly flattering. The sass factor of this dress is definitely the length. It’s called a mini dress for a reason! I’m only 5’1″ so the length of this dress wasn’t a factor for me, but I do think it could look really short on someone who is 5’5″ and up. To give you some context, when I bent down I felt like a brisk breeze. Unfortunately, this dress is currently sold out, but I did link to some similar styles and I also included a super cute dress that I just happen to love. There is a possibility it will be restocked so stay tuned!

FALL FASHION TIP: GO BOLD

Details: Banana Republic floral strappy midi slip dress, here | Photos by Jon Salas

Everywhere I look there’s pumpkin spice this and salted caramel that. I think we all jumped the gun on whipping out the fall scented candles and fitted knits, myself included. Especially considering we’ll be experiencing 80-degree temps this week. While there have been SOME breezy days, there definitely haven’t been enough to be convinced that fall is here to stay. Despite this un-fall like weather, I’ve been stopping by all of my favorite brands and have begun planning my fall closet and pinpointing my fall necessities. It’s true, my typical fall must-haves would include a neutral colored chunky knit, some booties and a long sleeve fitted tee, but with the weather being so fickle, I haven’t stopped getting my hands on sleek strappy dresses. This floral midi dress makes me feel sexy and sophisticated at the same time. It’s effortless and as soon as you slip it on you feel as though you deserve to be strolling the small streets of Venice or sipping on some prosecco outside of a Parisian cafe. I’m serious, it has that effect. It’s bold and vibrant, and it’s so easy to have a closet full of three different shades of taupe and endless black knits and booties. However, I love wearing and playing with colors, especially ones as bold as this. AND if this dress is too colorful for you, it’s available in grey with blue and white flowers–super pretty as well! While I won’t be wearing this dress to work, it’s definitely one I will wear on a date night a drape over solid color scarf/pashmina because anything heavier or bulkier will distract from the beauty and flawlessness of the dress. Don’t be afraid to be bold with color this season and add something to your wardrobe that is a bit outside of your comfort zone, you’ll be surprised at how good you’ll feel and look–trust me!

Banana Republic sent me this dress in exchange for writing a review on my blog. Although this post is sponsored, all opinions are my own.

THE HEAT MADE ME DO IT

Details: LOFT Pleated Duet Dress, here | DSW two-toned sandals, similar here |

I recently went on a shopping binge at LOFT and came across this flowy pleated dress. The heat made me do it! It was so hot last week, and I was in desperate need of cute dresses and lightweight tops to keep me from getting heat stroke. It was basically prescribed by my doctor. It’s too late now anyway, the damage is done and I have some new summer clothes to show for it. Lately, the LOFT has been surprising me. I used to never think twice about walking in there because everything always seemed to be boxy and ill-fitting. I don’t know what they’ve been doing lately, but keep it! Not only do have they offer on-trend styles but the fit seems to be much more accurate. Plus, they have an awesome petite section so I’m able to pull off a mid-length dress like this because they offer it in petite–score! I’ve noticed lately, in my old age that the quality of your clothing means more than quantity, but having a lot of quality clothes is always better–I can’t help myself! I wish that we were experiencing that unseasonable heat this week, so I can rock this dress. It’s one that I would wear two days in a row–it’s that good! So, the lesson of the day: if you haven’t been into LOFT in a while, or ever because you thought it was outdated or ill-fitting, go on and stop in; I guarantee that you’ll find something you just have to have.

EASTER BEST

DSC_0502EDITEDDSC_0495EDITEDDSC_0506 2EDITEDDSC_0464EDITEDDSC_0466EDITEDDSC_0472 2DSC_0477EDITEDDetails: LOFT Shimmer Floral Flounce Dress, here | Dansko’s Demetra sandal, here |

This was one of the first Easter’s in a while that I was able to wear a dress without tights or a coat. It was almost too hot this weekend; a whopping 86-degrees. My Easter Sunday began with a beautiful sunrise mass with my mom and dad. It was so peaceful. This time of year is always hard because we lost a lot of loved ones in the months of March and April. Fortunately, there were signs all around us at mass, making both my mom and I laugh and cry. After mass, we prepared for Easter brunch and the egg hunt. All the little babies were in search of those bright candy filled eggs. So fun to watch! Like I said, this was one of the first Easters in a long time that I didn’t have to wear pants or a coat. I finally got to take this Floral Flounce Dress out on the town. It’s comfortable and elegant all at once. I also love how I was successfully able to hide my Easter brunch belly. Usually, when I’m at home I wear no shoes, socks or slippers, but because I recently got a pair of Dansko’s Demetra sandal and found them to be unbelievably comfortable, I was able to wear a cute stylish shoe all day long. Not even kidding. I’m surprised at how comfortable they are, given the generous height. I’m a neutral girl, so I obviously gravitated to the taupe color, but they are also available in black and brown. I haven’t stopped wearing them. I think I may have found my go-to summer sandal. Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday! Let the flowy dress and sandal wearing weather continue :).

Going Gingham for Spring

DSC_0198editedDSC_0197edited (1)DSC_0204editedDSC_0237editedDSC_0223DSC_0219DSC_0250Details: Gingham Rayon-Twill Shirtdress c/o J.Jill, here | Black suede Over-the-Knee suede boots, similar here |

Happy First Day of Spring! It’s finally here to stay now, right? I am honestly so sick of the cold weather, but I think we’re in the clear, I just checked out the forecast for this week and we’re looking at mild temps and hitting 60-degrees on Saturday! Can we go to the beach yet? Well, it has been difficult for me to shoot in the cold, but this weekend I managed to get some shots in. I was able to bear my legs a bit twith this black and white gingham rayon-twill shirtdress from J.Jill. It’s super comfortable and I styled it with my trusted OTK boots so that I didn’t have to resort to tights. It’s really lightweight and easy to style; I’m excited for things to heat up so I can wear it to the office and even the BEACH! Sometimes gingham can be overwhelming, but when I slipped this on I didn’t find it to be excessive or reminiscent of a picnic blanket–it just works!

Enjoy the spring weather from here on and out, lovelies!

SPRING WEAR JUMP-START!

DSC_0655pmedits (1)DSC_0667editedpmnewDSC_0653editedpm 2DSC_0696editedpm copyDSC_0712editedpm 2Details: Striped T-Shirt Dress c/o Rosegal.com, here  |

Well, we had an unappreciated cold spell last week and I’m hoping for warm weather from here on out. I’ve been stocking up on spring clothes and the day that I wanted to style this asymmetrical t-shirt dress, it was far too cold for bare toes and bare legs, so I went with my OTK boots instead of wedges. I’m most excited for spring weather so that I can wear cute sundresses without having to layer or wear tights. This outfit was a bit out of my comfort zone. I don’t know that I would normally wear a spring dress with OTK boots, but I’m pleasantly surprised with how well it came together. What are you excited to wear once the warm weather stakes its claim?!

NEW SPRING CO-ORD SET

DSC_0506edited copyDSC_0525editedpicmonkey copyDSC_0500PMNEWDSC_0569LRDSC_0577LRUPDATEDDetails: Black and white co-ord set c/o Dresslily, here |

The warm weather last week was such a tease. I was actually convinced that winter was finally over, but boy was I wrong. Yesterday, I tried to get away with wearing just a tee and I was LITERALLY shivering. And while I definitely have to wait to wear a two-piece bathing suit, I think maybe, just maybe I can start wearing co-ord sets like this one from Dresslily. It’s SO comfortable and I really love the white details–it makes it classy. The model on the website shows this set with full-on belly showing, but it’s not necessary. I mean, if you’re into that then go for it, but it looks much better with the higher waisted skirt allowing the top to overlay. It doesn’t feel like I can wear this today, but I think we’re supposed to hit 60-degrees on Wednesday, fingers crossed! I’m completely over wearing chunky knits and puffer vests, so I’m ready to kick off my spring wardrobe with more sets like these. What are your spring wardrobe plans!? Maybe if we talk enough about them the warm weather will stay put!

PLAID PLEATS

DSC_0104editedDSC_0070editedDSC_0103editedDSC_0081editedDSC_0075editedDSC_0115editedDSC_0113editedDSC_0141editedDSC_0145editedDetails: Stand collar tie-waist plaid dress, here |

I told you I was going to stick to my winter dress-wearing mission, and this long sleeve plaid dress has been making it easy for me. Not only is it long sleeved, but it has a high neckline and I really appreciate my pale chest being covered during the winter months (unless I have a good spray tan). To combat the cold, I layered some black knee-high socks over sheer black tights. It’s super comfortable and much warmer than tights alone. Additionally, the tie-waist forms a perfect pleat, making it flirty and feminine. With an upcoming nor’easter on the way, I can’t say I’ll be donning a dress anytime soon,  but if I HAD to wear one in the elements, you can be sure this would be my choice. I promise. Cheers to a new week!

MY DRESS OF THE SEASON

DSC_0464editedDSC_0438editedDSC_0433editedDSC_0502editedDSC_0507editedDetails: Torn by Ronny Kobo dress from Marshalls, similar here |

Lately, I’ve been searching for a couple guest of the wedding, bridal shower and baby shower dresses and I just haven’t been able to find one that I like, that isn’t white. I have a tendency to go for white and cream colored dresses, which in this case,  isn’t entirely appropriate. I was participating in my typical weekend Marshall deal-hunting spree when I came across this cream-colored dress with gold metallic accents. It’s definitely not appropriate for a bridal shower or a wedding, but I really couldn’t let it go. It took a while for me to make a decision; I just didn’t know if it was entirely reasonable for me to purchase such a classy, perfectly flawless dress. Okay, who am I kidding? Of course, it was entirely necessary to have this dress in my closet. It fit perfectly and I even took the extra step in consulting my bestie, who reassured me it was a wardrobe necessity. It’s often difficult for me to find dresses that fit in length, so I was pleasantly surprised when I slipped this on and didn’t even consider a tailor. I don’t think it’s going to be difficult for me to find a reason to wear this beauty, but I do worry about keeping it clean and in good shape. It’s the type of dress that I love too much to wear. Its material is easily snagged, so I just have to be at least 300 feet away from people at all times while donning it. I have some places in mind for the summer months, if anyone has any fancy parties planned, just let me know. I’ve got a dress for it.
