I love trying out different fashion trends and stocking my closet with clothes, that much you can tell. However, I’ve never been one to sacrifice comfort for fashion. That’s not entirely true. I’ve done that a couple of times, and it’s not worth it. You don’t look cute when you’re uncomfortable. Wobbling around in 6-inch pumps that are cutting into your heels, what’s the point? I always do like to get a couple of garments that are a bit different from the rest of my closet and have that “outshine” factor, but mostly I stick with what’s comfortable and fits well.

I’m not sure what next week looks like, but the mornings have been a bit cooler than usual, and I’m more than okay with that. This weekend looks fairly mild, and today I woke up to crisp cool brink of fall weather…DELIGHTFUL! So, in the spirit of comfort and a new season, I’m sharing one of my favorite outfits. We’ve got, what I like to call, my core comforts: slouchy Nomad pants from Aerie (available in 4 different colors), a sleeveless sweater top, and my oversized denim TopShop jacket…oooh and can’t forget my slip-on converse sneaks! Which way to the apple cider, pumpkin patch, farmers market, (insert most basic fall activity here)?!?

Since comfort and athleisure have become more commonplace and accepted by major retailers, it’s so easy to find clothing that is not only comfy and cozy but looks good too. Take a look at your closet and identify your most comfortable pieces and see how you can elevate them with accessories, a blazer, you name it, it’s possible!

For as long as long as I can remember a denim jacket has always been a wardrobe staple. One of my most memorable denim jackets would have to be my mid-wash Abercrombie and Fitch one. I think I got it in 6th or 7th grade and I wore it through college… I actually still have it and it’s not off-trend. I still love it, but I ended up adding a couple more denim jackets to the mix. One is a more form-fitted stretch denim jacket from Ann Taylor and the other is one I haven’t been able to stop wearing. This STS Blue denim jacket from Nordstrom Rack. I love this one because it is somewhat oversized so I’m able to layer it over chunky knits, which is key for these chillier fall months. I also love its classic blue wash and I’ve been wearing it with black denim, leggings, sweatpants, all my jeans etc. I don’t even care if I look like a walking blueberry–I love it! I’m a HUGE sweatshirt, sweater, chunky knit person, but lately, I love treating this jacket as my go-to sweater/cardigan/etc. You can be sure I’ll be wearing this all fall long until I have to dig up a down puffer coat.

Fall is in the air…for now! I spent some time going through my closet last weekend, to begin purging and swapping out seasons. I was able to clear out a good deal of clothing, but there were some pieces I just wasn’t ready to part with. It’s kind of funny, but the only jean jacket I had in my closet until this beauty from the LOFT, is one from Abercrombie & Fitch. It is literally from my 8th-grade wardrobe. It’s easy enough to style, but the arms are so bulky and the color is a tad outdated. So when I was shopping my heart out at LOFT last week I spotted this perfectly fitted denim jacket and knew it was destined to be hanging in my closet. I absolutely LOVE the fit, mostly because it’s petite–woo! It really couldn’t fit any better–it’s not too long or short, its proportionate to my body and looks good with just about anything. Even though we’ve only had a few days of fall-like temps, it has definitely already become a staple this season. I still have to learn how to let go of clothing and I need to reign in my current clothing consumption, but classics like this one just can’t be overlooked.

What are some of your favorite fall staples!?

It’s FINALLY Friday, and I am SO ready to lounge out this weekend. Lately, my weekends have been jam packed up until now, and while I still have a lot to do I’m looking forward to doing it in my UNIQLO lounge pants. These bad boys are comfortable, and light-weight making them appropriate enough for luke warm spring days like today. I also want to give a shout out to my mirror face making an appearance in today’s post—- HAHAH. Doesn’t everyone have an unintentional mirror face? I think mine is more severe than most, and while attempting to look like a BAMF my mirror face slipped out—oops! The truth is, this outfit isn’t typical for me. I mean yes, in a perfect world I would be wearing a baseball cap and sweats every day of the week, but I get bored easily and as you can probably tell my style is a little inconsistent. But that’s what I love most about it; it’s fun to use clothing to represent different pieces of yourself—everyone’s a little bit of a BAMF once in and while. And if you’re like me and you’re just NOT…ever, then at least you can try and look the part. If you’re the type of person who only wears black or would never wear a dress, do me a favor and try out something new. I promise, you’ll surprise yourself, and it’s SO much fun! Think of it as playing a part in a movie or a play, but the main character isn’t the self that you know, instead it’s a tiny piece of who you are brought to life. You’ll be surprised how much a  trip outside your comfort zone will change your wardrobe, it’ll add variety and dimension. So…what do you have to lose?! It’s the weekend…and as Countess LuAnn would say, “just be cool, don’t be all….uncool”, just take the rest of the day to let those wise weekend words seep in ;).

I have a special date with my boyfriend this weekend, and instead of throwing on my usual go-to dress I decided to pull out my ZARA crochet romper from last year. I should note now, that this entire outfit is revamped from past years, however I’ve included some similar styles above and below, including an AMAZING crochet Banana Republic dress that I’m pretty sure I now NEED. Anyway, how many of you still have your Abercrombie and Fitch denim jacket from 7th grade? I can imagine a great deal of 90s babies out there still do, and I am so relieved I never ditched mine. I think I’ve worn this jacket more now than I did when I was in middle school. It’s still in great shape, and I can’t say there are many denim jackets on the market right now that I HAVE to have—this one takes the cake. And while this date look is relatively casual and comfy, the crochet detail of the romper is perfectly feminine and sophisticated—I think this will remain in my closet just as long as my denim jacket.

I’m ready for the weekend, how about you?!
