CLASSIC & COATLESS

I never feel more myself than when I’m in a plain white tee and jeans. I don’t know, there’s just something so timeless and classic; I always feel like I’m walking out of a Calvin Klein ad. And considering we’ve been experiencing some pretty mild weather, I don’t think it’ll be long before I’m walking around Southie coatless. I have to admit, my chunky knits are getting pretty tired looking and I’m becoming restless. So, in an attempt to lighten my wardrobe load, I’ve begun investing in some lighter knits, beginning with this effortless, J.Jill lightweight open-stitch sweater. It’s the white tee of knits and I was actually able to wear it this weekend sans coat–helloooo 60 degree weather! I’m pumped to start prepping my spring closet, I think we can pretty much say goodbye to winter right?! Phew! That wasn’t so bad at all.

VENT SESH

Lately, I’ve been super stressed with work. I think that’s standard with a new job, any job for that matter, there are ebbs and flows, learning to work with certain people and trying to fit in all over again. It’s safe to say I was feeling pretty homesick this week and fortunately my parents came to visit this weekend. I was reminded of the instant comfort they emit when they walk in a room; they don’t even need to say anything—they’re like one big ball of home and they’re just what I needed. Needless to say I was a bit emotional  this weekend, but I’m navigating it and the lump in my throat has since ceased. I think that’s where blogging helps, I took some time yesterday to walk around the park near my apartment while shooting, and a couple deep breaths and some fresh fall air really helped my head stop spinning and talked me off the ledge. Sometimes I take life too seriously and when you really step back and take a look at the stressors in your life, it’s almost laughable. Will that deadline really mean anything 10 months from now? I mean really, in the grand scheme of life the things we stress over are unnecessary and it just makes this already challenging journey more difficult. As serious as you take faux leather pants, that’s how you should take life—but really, breathe and take a minute to evaluate what’s important to you.  And while the weather is still amazing, take some time away from your desk and walk outside, acknowledge the foliage, take a deep breath and realize that this is just an ebb you gotta get through, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try to enjoy it.

A WEEKEND WELL SPENT

I spent this past weekend at home in New Jersey to celebrate my birthday. The weather couldn’t have been more perfect,  I was able to spend some quality time with family and was treated to some pampering. It’s amazing what family time can do, even though I got back late Monday night, I still felt refreshed and recharged on Tuesday morning. While fall has always been a prime season for clothing, it has also become a favorite season of mine because it marks the beginning of a long stretch of full on family time. This weekend, I visited some of the local farms with my sister and then enjoyed a meal at my favorite restaurant with the rest of my family. It’s funny, I realized that when I’m home and going out with family I don’t put as much thought into my clothing. Sometimes that results in the best outfits, and in this case that’s especially true. I was layering like crazy, but the sweater that made its mark was this J. Jill shaker-stitch topper. The deep navy color complemented the classic reds and blues of the plaid button down. Not to mention, my footwear game was especially strong with these  casual ‘hiking’ boots from Primark. I was skeptical at first, considering they were only $30.00, but  their quality outshines some of my more expensive favorites. I may even buy another pair to have on-hand in case I wear them out! And I know how busy life gets, but don’t forget to carve out some time to spend with family. It’s the best kind of medicine and guarantees a ton of laughs and great food!
