As promised, here’s Part II of my experience learning from the experts at Iris Tree. Last week Nicole showed me how to contour and now I’m sharing with you her tips on how to achieve those ‘Kylie Jenner’ lips, or just soft subtle pouty ones–haha! Initially I asked for an everyday lip, but then I decided to have some fun with this and had her to teach me how achieve bigger and bolder lips. See below the pouty lip process, straight from the expert herself…

Now for those pouty kissable lips. We have already started creating the illusion by using some of the highlighting product on her cupid’s bow. The trick here is to use a pencil very close to the natural shade of your lips. For Jackie, this is Becca’s nude lip pencil in Nougat. I lined slightly outside her lip line, still mindful of keeping her top and bottom lips balanced. This pencil is especially awesome because the opposite side has a nude color that you can outline your lips to enhance the look. I followed with Honey lipstick from Smashbox and bareMineral’s Moxie lipgloss in Sparkplug.

To finish the look off, I spritzed her face with a makeup setting spray to keep the look dewy and fresh!

IRIS TREE (PART I): CONTOURING

DSC_0013 editedDSC_0020 editedDSC_0026 editedDSC_0034 editedDSC_0046 editedDSC_0056 editedDSC_0069 editedDSC_0075 editedDSC_0077 editedDSC_0095DSC_0329Contouring and Kylie Jenner lips seem to be the makeup trend that everyone wants to master, myself included. Like most, I’m extremely particular on what touches my skin considering it’s relatively sensitive. I’ve been to several spas and tested out a variety of services, but nothing compares to my experience at Iris Tree in my hometown of Chester, NJ (located on 206 in the Streets of Chester shopping mall). The staff is pleasant, easygoing and understanding of their customers needs.  I often get my facials done by Krista there, and my skin has never been better. It’s clearer than it has ever been, and she has given me product suggestions that I now include in my daily skincare routine. For makeup and all other skincare product advice I rely on Nicole, which is why I reached out to her to give me the low down on exactly how to contour and achieve full plump lips. Since Nicole is the expert, I decided to allow her to explain the processes and any tips, tricks and products that are best used to achieve this look.

The first thing you need to know and always remember about contouring and highlighting is that you want to just enhance your natural features. We are all created differently and we have to embrace and love all of our features. That being said, makeup is a fun artistic expression of who we are, so if we want to enhance our cheekbones or make our lips look fuller and pouty I say go for it!

In this look that I created for Jackie I used a powder contour shade from Kevyn Aucoin.  This shade is particularly good for contouring because it has a bit of grey it in. Remember that contouring is trying to create the illusion of a shadow not a tan, so try to avoid using a bronzer or anything with a shimmer in it. Taking a very small amount on my brush I swept this color under her cheekbones, up her temples and hairline, and then across the jaw. Once my brush was clean of any excess product, I started to blend any harsh edges. To balance the contour I used a highlighting product from Becca called the Shimmering Skin Perfector in the shade Moonstone. I applied a small amount using a damp beauty blender to the tops of her cheekbones, down the bridge of the nose, above both eyebrows, and on the cupid’s bow.

To finish the look off, I spritzed her face with a makeup setting spray to keep the look dewy and fresh!

There you have it! Contouring straight from an expert, stay tuned for ‘Part II’ next Friday, where Nicole will explain exactly how to master a pouty lip. If you like what you see, take a visit to Iris Tree and use code jackie10 for 10% off!
