OOO UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE…JK, I WISH

Details: Essential Linen Shirt in Beechwood c/o J.Jill,  here | Cut-off denim shorts via Nordstrom Rack, similar here |

I felt so relaxed until I had to go back to work on Monday! This Fourth of July week was such a beautiful week with sunshine every day. I actually finished three books and barely looked at my phone to check work emails. That’s not completely true; I looked at my emails once a day. It’s funny because I only spent the past week with family and Josh, but I packed so many clothes “just in case we go to a dance party…or just in case we get invited to charter a yacht” LOL. Seriously, if you saw how I packed you would think I was going away to Europe for five months. I actually only ended up wearing a few garments all weekend, and most of the time I was in my bathing suit…and this linen shirt from J.Jill. I love how it doubles as an everyday top and a beach coverup. It’s so lightweight and the color is the perfect neutral shade to fit in my perfectly neutral closet. I slid on my comfy converse and pulled on my comfy cut-offs and called it a day…every day I wasn’t working.

I’m currently daydreaming about an upcoming weekend of more sun and beach bliss, but until then I will be at the office longingly looking out my window.

SALT AIR AND SEASIDE THERAPY

Details: Linen Full-Leg Seamed Crops c/o J.Jill, here | Light Essential Cardi c/o J.Jill, here

So…asking, believing and receiving beach weather didn’t really happen for me this weekend. I went to the beach, but instead of spending my days at the beach, I went outlet shopping instead…oops! I also spent some quality time with my parents and had a relaxing weekend doing everything I wanted to do…except lay out on the beach. The smell of salt air is soothing and it really is the best remedy for that post work stress. Lately, I’ve been on a comfort kick and have not stopped wearing these linen full-leg crops. They are SO comfortable and make the perfect coverup for the beach or for an evening out at your favorite seaside restaurant. I paired them with a classic tee and this adorable white gauzy cardigan. I’ve been wearing this cardigan with EVERYTHING. I love that it’s sheer, making it a little less formal than the classic solid cardigan. I am the definition of a beach bum. I can legitimately sit and lie on the beach all day from 9 to 5. I beach like it’s my job. I don’t need activities, I’ll dip in once it gets too hot, but I am perfectly content with my butt in the sand looking out into the ocean. What kind of beach person are you?

JAMAICAN ME GROW

IMG_7303DSC_0360editedIMG_7229 (1)DSC_0472editedIMG_7205 (1)IMG_7391 editedIMG_7280editedFullSizeRenderIMG_7377 (2)Details: Forever 21 keyhole white and pink one piece bathing suit, similar style here | H&M black and magenta bathing suit, here |

Josh and I just spent a week in Ocho Rios, Jamaica at Moon Palace Jamaica Grande and I have to say it was one of the most relaxing vacations I’ve ever been on. Whenever we go on vacation together we always come back with a new set of inside jokes that we continue to talk about long after we leave the resort. It’s fun to have those memories to hang on to especially when you have to return to the office. This is the second all inclusive resort I’ve ever been to and the food was delicious, the drinks were strong and the room was beautiful. Last summer we went to Cancun and while we absolutely loved the fish tacos and all of that resort’s amenities, Moon Palace definitely has it beat. It offered various activities right on the resort so there was no need to travel anywhere else. For instance, we swam with the dolphins and since we were staying there 5 nights, we received a certain amount of ‘resort credits, leaving us only having to pay 16% of the ‘swimming with dolphin’ fee of $149, which came to $43–I was  shocked by this and was sure there would be some type of catch. I’m still holding my breath, but when we checked out there were no additional fees (fingers crossed). We even went on a sunset catamaran cruise for $23–unreal right!? The best part was that we didn’t need to waste half of our day driving to catch the boat because the pier we were instructed to meet at was AT the resort–everything you could ever want was all right there! Aside from our excursions, we spent the majority of our days hopping from the pool to the beach sipping on pina colada’s and cracking jokes. We also took part in the free paddle boarding, kayaking and sailing they had to offer. Oh, and Josh would definitely want me to mention the Flow Rider surfing simulation thing that he became a pro at–I even tried it! For those of you that know me, know that I’m not big into activities, especially if it interferes with my beach bum time, but I did some things that were a bit out of my comfort zone this vacation and it felt amazing. I included a photo of me in crow pose because it was one of the poses that took me the longest to accomplish. I hit my head on the floor a half a dozen times until I got it down. But you see, that was in a dark yoga room where no one else but me could really see my failures (they definitely heard them though).  I’ve always been fearful of what others might think of me if I messed up or fell face first and this fear has severely interfered with me wanting to try new things. That’s what I love most about Josh, he doesn’t care about what anyone thinks. He fell so hard about a dozen times on that Flow Rider and every time, he popped back up laughing and smiling. By the end of our trip, he was just as good as the instructors. It goes to show you that by embracing your failures, whether it’s with a belly flop or a nose dive into your yoga mat, you’re sure to come out on the other side a much stronger and more well-rounded person, maybe even with a new trick or two under your belt.  So while all of you thought I was bellying up to the bar and baking in the sun without a thought in my mind, I absolutely was, but I also learned a bit more about myself in the process ;).

BEACH DREAMS + PLAID SCHEMES

DSC_0492 editedDSC_0456 editedDSC_0483 editedDSC_0475 editedDSC_0494 editedDSC_0515 editedDSC_0522 editedDetails: Open plaid cardigan from Ganesh Imports, similar here | Volcom cutoffs, similar here |

It’s a beautiful start to the week, and while I’m slightly overwhelmed by the move I just made, although I think I’m starting to settle. I’m loving the fresh air and cooler weather, yesterday I went by the beach near where I live and it felt like a piece of home was there. As I’ve been unpacking I’ve noticed an overload of fall/winter clothing that I’ll need to move home because it just CANNOT fit right now. BUT the one fall favorite from last year that I stumbled upon was this open plaid cardiagn Josh got for me last year for my birthday from Ganesh Imports in Portsmouth, NH and I love it because it’s unique and easy to wear over a casual dress, top or with some cutoffs. Someone close to me explained to me that Ganesh is deity known to yogis as the remover of obstacles and overseer of new beginnings. How appropriate for my first week in a new city;  I think I’ll wear it today, on my trip to city hall and to get my car inspected—I’ll just pretend on I’m on the beach….

Happy Monday!

LAST DOSE OF ROMPER

DSC_0550 editedDSC_0567 editedDSC_0538 editedDSC_0596 editedDSC_0608 editedDSC_0611 editedDetails: Mykonos romper from Beyond Trends, similar here |

Happy Labor Day babes! I hope you’ve been enjoying this beautiful weekend as much as I have. The final days of summer have been pure bliss and I was particularly excited that I was able to get some wear out of my newest romper from Beyond Trends. This blue and white romper is a perfect balance of comfort and sex appeal, with it’s easy elastic waist band and plunging deep v. While I’m anxious to start layering, I’ll definitely miss the simplicity of summer clothing. Not to mention, when fall begins winter is not far to follow. I purchased this Mykonos romper for 30% off at Beyond Trends in Somerville, NJ since all of their summer styles are marked down! Honestly, rompers for summer will never go out of style, so buying some summer pieces for less at this time of year is worth it. I hope you have a wonderful holiday and excuse me while I go and take advantage of all of the AMAZING Labor Day sales, bye!

FOCUS ON THE PRESENT(S)

DSC_0047 editedDSC_0009 editedDSC_0041 editedDSC_0040 editedDSC_0059 editedDetails: Melange pullover c/o J. Jill, here | Banana Republic distressed skinny ankle jean, here  | Lulus wedges, here  | Gorjana Aldridge cuff via Rocksbox, here (use code jacquelinedux0x0 to get your first month of Rocksbox FREE).

This weekend I spent up in CT at my parents’ beach house in Westbrook. As I’ve mentioned, it’s where I spent all of my adolescent summers, but this particular weekend I was feeling severely nostalgic. While visiting my favorite spots, I began to reminisce of times that required much less responsibility.  I experienced so much there, a lot of friends made and some love lost, but they were the times that I felt the most present. I miss not knowing or caring what day it is and not having to worry about the thought of going to work on a Sunday afternoon. With age, comes more responsibility and with responsibility comes more stress and the more stress the less present I feel in ‘the here and now’. While this mindfulness is something I’m working on, I do have some quick “fixes”. One of my favorite remedies for stress relief is spending quality time with my pup, Jack— (retail therapy doesn’t hurt either). Jack clearly isn’t the best photo shoot partner, but he is the cutest. And on a day filled with shopping, comfort is key. My Melange pullover c/o J. Jill is loose fitting and a fun summer layer, that I wear to combat chilled summer nights and rainy shopping days. The perfect companion for such a sweater are my true blue Banana Republic distressed denim jeans. With another beautiful summer weekend behind me, I’m going to be conscious of living in the moment, except on Monday. Monday I prefer my mind to be elsewhere, so I guess I’ll start practicing mindfulness on Tuesday…LOL.

BEACH BUM STATUS

DSC_1114 editedDSC_1131 editedDSC_1130 editedDSC_1128 editedDSC_1150Details: Sun-bleached tank dress c/o J. Jill, here  | Sophie Harper circle pave necklace, from my Rocksbox; use code jacquelineduxoxo to receive your first month free |

If I could, I would be a professional beach bum. I love the heat, I love the sand and anyone who knows me, knows that I will beach it from 7am-7pm. A day at the beach is therapeutic to me, there are absolutely no judgments passed; you’re make-up free, wearing only your bathing suit– it’s liberating and it’s when I feel most at peace. Like any beach bum in training, I always have more than enough sunscreen (most of the time) and a super cute cover up. My J. Jill pink sun-bleached tank dress has become a serious beach staple. It’s loose, airy and appropriate enough for an afternoon lunch date. Now, if I could just make it through this work day I’d be one more closer to a beach weekend.
