MORE SUN HATS LESS SUNBURNS

No matter what I do, when I go to the beach for the first time of the season, my scalp gets burnt. I usually carry a ratty worn baseball cap, or get creative and tie a shirt around my head, but that’s just not cute. I’ve started to take the sun seriously. Skin cancer runs in my family and I haven’t been so kind to my skin over the years. My high school years were spent at the tanning salon (hello, I’m from New Jersey), and I often wore the absolute minimum SPF while crisping my skin. I wisened up (a little) when I went to college, and now I wear nothing less than 30 SPF. I’ve also become very conscious of my scalp because it’s hard to see the damage that’s being done. Now that I have this cute and comfortable chambray sun hat from J.Jill, I don’t have to worry about looking silly while I’m spending the day outside enjoying the sun. As for my all white look, I broke out last year’s Banana Republic white denim wide leg pants and I picked up this cold shoulder top from Marshall’s. It’s actually a body suit, which makes it even more amazing. You don’t have to worry about it become untucked or looking out of place–it’s one of my favorite new purchases!  Now, it’s your turn to pick up a cute sun hat, slather on the SPF and put a classic all white look together, it is spring after all.

A FRESH START

The official last day of summer is September 22nd and I’ll be honest I’m having mixed feelings. However, since I’m embarking on a new chapter I feel it’s only appropriate that a new season is beginning. I’ve always been one to follow rules, but when it comes to clothing rules just don’t work for me. So as you can imagine that whole not wearing white after Labor Day has never been been a rule I’ve tried to follow, even when it was taken “seriously”. I love nothing more than a loose fitting white top, which is why this one from Banana Republic will remain a mainstay in my closet well into fall. And I can imagine you’re pretty tired of seeing these white Banana Republic pants, but that should tell you just how necessary they are. So while you’ll probably see me shift into fall, I still plan to keep some of favorite summer staples on hand for a fun mix.

LESS IS ALWAYS MORE

Since I posted an all white look for the winter season, I decided it was only appropriate to do so for the summer as well. We all know the saying ‘less is more’ and that’s especially true for an all white ensemble. Some people feel the need to overcompensate for such a minimalist look, but letting your look speak for itself is sometimes the best policy. I won’t lie, I did consider a necklace of some sort, however this Pure Jill open stitch top needs no accessory. Its delicate stitching provides an intricate look when layered over a crisp white tank. Coming from someone who has a closet filled with white and ivory tops, believe me when I say this is in my top 5. It’s different from all the others I’ve come across, and regardless of if you’re wearing it with white denim or cutoff shorts it manages to look clean and classic.

White Out

We’ve made it to Friday and MAY! No more frigid days ahead right? I’ve been digging the all white trend this season– remember when it was a complete faux pas to wear one color/monotoned outfits—especially white?! Thankfully all white ensembles are no longer reserved only for your wedding day.  We can now (without judgement) mix and match with white patterned pieces and varying shades of ivories, white, cream–anything goes! So with a slight breeze in the air I decided to hang on to this ZARA favorite of mine– my white and navy checked long sleeve top. It’s definitely going to remain a solid staple for me into the fall months; while it’s light enough to wear through the spring, it has enough weight to keep me comfortable through October. (Sorry for jumping to fall!) for now, start working on your summer glow; you’ll need some serious white staples to highlight that tan—get shopping and celebrate the AMAZING weather to come 🙂

Happy Friday!

“WELCOME SPRING”

Color blocking and all white are two of my favorite spring/summer trends this season, which is why I decided to kick off this first (luke) warm week of  spring with this look. This white oxford is a beloved staple of mine and in an effort to give this look some dimension and contrast I layered on this lightweight Ann Taylor color block tweed jacket. It is the ideal transitional piece— it’s neutral colors complement a variety pieces; it can be paired with colors as dark as black and grey to colors as light as pastel pinks and whites.  Guys… things are starting to heat up, spring is here, and I think it’s safe to say we can finally begin wearing our spring lights and brights–I’m SERIOUS this time!
