Spring means bright colors, floral prints, and of course BOLD lips. Some of the hottest shades this spring include coral, fuchsia, bubblegum pinks and bold reds. Often times it’s difficult to decide what to wear with such a loud lip, not to mention it’s pretty intimidating. No need to worry I’ve found the best outfit colors to complement some of spring’s favorite shades.
Colors shown include: REVLON COLORBURT Matte Balm in shades, ‘Unapologetic’ (the hot coral color) and ‘Showy’ (the fuchsia shade) ($8), and Kevyn Aucoin’s Matte Lip Color in ‘Everlasting’ ($33) (cool garnet shade). I’m not normally drawn to a matte lip, but these shades have made me change my ways. The application of each is smooth and simple, plus these cool tones have the ability to complement a variety of skin tones.
The best color to wear with a coral lip are royal and baby blues, these are complementary colors. Cool colors not only make your lips pop but also avoid a color clash. The REVLON Matte Balm is easy enough to apply without a liner as seen above, but to give yourself a fuller lip the pointed tip makes it easy to outline your lips making it a fool-proof application.
Next up, I channeled my inner barbie girl and applied this bright fuchsia shade (‘Showy’ by REVLON), its complementary color is a spring favorite, yellow of course. Cool-toned fuchsia lips paired with warm yellows make your eyes pop and provide a delicate contrast.
Ever since it was 2013’s ‘Pantone Color of the Year’ I haven’t been able to stop wearing emerald green. It’s a classic cool color that goes best with a bold red lip. This particular ‘Everlasting’ shade by Kevyn Aucoin resides in the cool-tone family, and once applied you’ll notice that the deep blue-red best matches an emerald green top. For this particularly heavy color I lined my lips with a rose pink liner (any liner will do as long as it’s not darker or brighter than the color you’re applying). A bold rep lip is timeless and if you haven’t already included it in your spring makeup bag, it’s time you have.
With that being said, go outside your comfort zone this spring and take on a bold lip!
